The queens used to dope weed, drink wine and enjoy the self like there is no tomorrow. In this paintings one of the queen is so drunk that she is not able to stand right. That was the ancient India. I wonder how did the culture got such a frantic make over that women lost all their rights to enjoy .

Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India
Tumblr media
I visited Gwalior in March 2016. It was very hot when I visited there. It was a nice weekend getaway
How to get there from Delhi?
Dept - New Delhi (NDLS) time - 6:00 AM to Arr Gwalior Junction (GWL) time - 9:30 AM. Train details - Bhopal Shatabdi. Train Number - 12002 INR714
Ones you reach the Gwalior railway station you can take a local Auto and they would be able to take you to the hotel address that you have the reservation. On this trip the hotel that I booked was a mistake. I will not recommend it to any one hence will not share any details either
Best time to go? - Between October to March
Places to stay? - Gwalior is a city and you can find lot of staying options. However not many have tie ups with the major hotel booking sites. I preferred a reasonable one to stay however the room quality was very poor. I would recommend if you are booking hotel online its okay to spend a little more money rather than having a sour experience at hotels
Places to visit in Gwalior
Gopachal Parvat - Bhuddhist Caves
Gwalior Fort
Sas Bahu temple
Gurudwara Data Bandi Chhod
Teli Ka mandir
Gujari Mahal Archaeological Museum
Jai Vilas Palace
Mausoleums of Mohammed Ghaus & Tansen
I visited the places in the same order as I have mentioned above. I was not feeling very well on the first day of my trip hence I rested the day I reached (Also I work night shift). Hence all of the above was covered in a days time.
Gwalior Fort has Light show at night. It’s not very great however a nice night time hangout with the city light twinkling below. Light Show Tickets - INR100
Gwalior also has OLA cabs which made my travelling a little convenient from Hotel to the Fort and back.
There are Few more state protected monument as in the picture below. These monuments are very isolated and not visited by lot of tourist. There are not many guard stationed inside either to protect any harm done to these old building hence alone female travellers you need to be very vigilant and always on gaurd when you are looking around though these structures. You do have access to quite every corner of these buildings. Also there are 2 different set of entry fees to be paid for entering the monuments (Fort & State Protected monument)

Going back from Gwalior to Delhi?

Bundi, Rajasthan, India
Tumblr media
I visited Bundi in the month of January 2017. First trip for this year. I normally travel in trains to make the journey as cheap as possible and also get a feel of the rural India.
I took train from Delhi to reach Kota and from there I took local transport bus to reach Bundi, one of the remote places in Rajasthan. It’s unexplored by the indian trourist. Most of the tourist visiting Bundi are foreign nationals.
How to reach Bundi from Delhi?
Dept - H Nizamuddin (NZM) time 5:15 AM to Arr - Kota junction (KOTA) time 13:15 PM. Train details - NZM KOTA SPL Train Number - 09810 INR385
From Kota railway station you will have to take a Tuk Tuk to the Kota bus station. you will get frequent buses going towards Bundi. Bus Charges - INR40. it takes approximately 1 hour to reach Bundi from Kota.
Best time to go? - October to April
Places to stay - Hotel Dev Niwas, Maaji Saab ki Haveli, Opp to purani Kotwali, Bundi. (below are few pics of the hotel). Please check pics on this link - https://ushabaliga.tumblr.com/post/157735813172/hotel-dev-niwas-bundi-rajasthan-india
There are lot of haveli’s in the whole city. If you are a traveler like me who like to get the reservations done for a hotel before hand then you can always rely on the sites like Cleartrip.com this is where I booked my hotel.
Places to visit in Bundi
Garh Palace
Chitrashala Ummed Mahal
Taragarh Fort
Nawal Sagar Lake
Raniji ki Baori
Dhabhai Kund
Jait Sagar Lake
Sukh Mahal
84 Pillared Cenotaph (Chaurasi Khambo ki Chattri)
I visited the places in the same order as I have mentioned above.
My trip did not really go as planned as the train was delayed by 3 hours. I was hoping to explore atleast few places on the day I reached. I had my train booked back for delhi on the next day at night.
I started my excursion 7 in the morning next day. I relaxed and just searched nearby places to get planning for tomorrow. The Hotel staff was really helpful in planning my trip also they provided me with a free map of Bundi City for directions, which was of great help.
The monuments here are in very bad state, there are no proper directions either for exploring the place on your own. The quantity of guide is great hence you can always hire one for more and detailed information.
Chittrasala has lot of detailed information which you would not notice if some one did not point it out to you. Thankfully the old gaurd was very well versed with all the information and he proactively started explaining the paintings to us. As a gesture of goodwill I tipped him INR10 which is was thankful for.
Over all it is a good weekend gateway. The city is very rural hence would recommend to dress modestly. Commuting within the city is reasonable however they Auto driver would ask more from you if they notice that you are a tourist, hence will recommend little bargaining with them.
