NOT A FAN OF MERONIA(Even though this is a cool ship name) OR REMISA it’s weird. It’s weird and i’m tired of people acting like it isn’t cause it so is. Mello and nears relationship is very familial to me and rem is like thousands of years old and misa is an extremely troubled and traumatized 20something that rem has been interested by since sometime in misa’s teens. it’s just not a romantic situation. also people reading rems love for misa as romantic in the first place just misses the entire point of their whole relationship and makes me face palm cause like it’s so clearly trying to illustrate a feigned and misunderstood disconnect between life and death and a love of love itself CMON NOW! PEOPLE!!!!!!!!

thinking meronia is weird is something i think is rly straightforward like: They grew up together in the same home, have IN MY OPINION a familial rival relationship. Meronias dynamic to me is like they’re two halves of a greater whole, almost like how L and Light are 2 sides of the same coin but very, veryyyy, very different. Different because L and Light are so separated, and are immediately on the same playing field, and later connect. it’s just weird especially because again mello and near grew up in the same home, with the same idol to look up to, same caretaker, same resources, constant comparison and being forced to “team up” by caretakers. I feel that would prevent a romantic relationship btwn them. also (mello)growing up older than someone(near) almost immediately funnels into a whole diff dynamic in my experience and opinion

tldr romantic remisa feels pedophilic and meronia feels incestual & i think people need to think through their toxic yaoi and their toxic yuri and the death note community has a horrible habit of making any kind of complex relationship IMMEDIATELY romantic

light yagami's black-and-white mindset is so interesting and i want people to expand on it more. like that one time where he sincerely considered killing the bullies at his school. the only (stated) thing that prevented him from following through with the kill is the fact that it was too closely connected to him. it wasn't the fact that they were also still kids, nor the fact that being kids meant they had more of a chance to still change for the better, but the fact that it would up his chances on getting caught. which is so insanely interesting to me.

following this logic would imply a belief that anything that rots stays rotten-- which ironically is exactly the same kind of mindset that light's initially trying to combat. light yagami fights under the impression that the only way to restore justice and protect the innocent is through extreme methods (since the current method of a courtroom is clearly flawed). his extreme methods consist of, as we all know, executing criminals, making an example out of them, and then uniting all the "righteous" civilians under a benevolent god. this way, in his eyes, all the wicked have been plucked and the remaining will never step close to crime because of the fear of being next.

that's christianity. light yagami has re-created christianity.

those exact three things can all be found in the bible (or at least the one i read). and they also can be found in american and british history. y'know because of christianity. no matter how much you try you cannot eradicate christianity from these histories because of how influential it was in the culture. this is also why you can't pluck it from american law either. light yagami is not american, but this still applies to other justice systems as well. religion is such an integral part of early society i would argue you couldn't strip a religion from any nation's law. light yagami does not restore justice, he creates a religion, which is why the justice system he's fighting exists in the first place. he just restarted the cycle. and that is so incredibly ironic to me.

he is a teenager and it shows. he is so incredibly detached from both life and death and it shows. i don't even know how this turned into me talking about religion this whole thought process was sparked from fucking Pumped Up Kicks i need to put this man in a blender.

this has probably been talked about before but damnit i want to see more of the death note characters struggle.

i want to see light flinching at fireworks and his father's touch after the faked execution. i want to see him habitually turning to an empty chair, picking up a tennis racket, absentmindedly making tooth-rotting coffee before he realises L isn't there anymore.

i want to see misa installing multiple locks on her door after her parents' murders, making multiple trips at night just to check the doors are locked. after she gets married to light, i want her to complain to the empty air, to say a hasty goodnight before realising that no-one is there to listen any longer.

i want to see kid L staying up late alone, face lit by a computer screen. i want to see him before his death: i want to see his last moments with the man who raised him, his last night with the only one who understood him, him knowing that death's finally starting to catch up.

i want to see near trying to live up to the title of L. i want to see him staying up more at night, dropping sugar cubes in his tea even though he knows it's stupid.

i want to see mello digging his nails into his skin, chugging energy drinks, just to stay up and study for a little while longer. i want to see him doing anything to win and regretting it later on when he's alone. i want to see him keeping matt's goggles in his pocket after his death.

i want to see matt blaming himself after he sees mello spiral, maybe even blaming L and purposely scoring lower on his tests so he won't become the next L. i want to see matt choosing to follow mello out of the orphanage anyway and them having a big argument about it because mello didn't want matt to have to sacrifice everything he'd known for him.

i want to see kid sayu trying her best to live up to her brother's image, trying to be 'the smart one' because that's what light was and so she figures that's what she has to be, too.

i want to see sachiko, after her son's and husband's death, make a portion large enough for four, set a table for four and leave the door open every day at nine until she realises no-one is going to come home.

okay so i know that death note is an action-centered anime and having things like these would slow down the plot and maybe bore the readers. but i also think that all these show their humanity and also is part of the problem that light and L both show the readers: sometimes you get so caught up in the game, in the thrill of it all, that you forget the pawns you're playing with are not plastic pieces but real, living human beings.
