#1 What: Decks in The Park Where: Klyde Warren Park in Dallas When: The last Thursday of every month from April to October from 7:00-10:30pm How much: Free to the public Who: The music is family-friendly as well as the atmosphere surrounded with picnic tables, park benches, jungle gyms, and food trucks.
Sociological consequence: I think this event attracts a variety of people since it is on a weekday, in a park, from 7-10:30pm. I believe the cost (free) affects who attends this event because it makes it easy for families to go to a free show outdoors with their kids.
#2 What: The Ultimate Cowboys Tailgate Party... a dining event Where: Arlington, Texas near AT&T Stadium When: May 3 6-9pm How much: $150 Who: attendees must be 21+
Sociological Consequence: The time, age requirement, and cost mean that most people will be adults who enjoy the Cowboys, make decent money, and enjoy food, drinks, and socializing.
#3 Who:no age limit What: Pink Floyd Laser Show When: 7-8 Saturdays Where: Arlington, Tx How much: $6
Sociological Influence: Because it is a low cost event and is located at UTA Planetarirum it will most likely have college students and surrounding families looking for a cool, cheap event/show and good music.

Equal Rights for Gay and Lesbian Veterans
We may live in the 21st century but there are still many people who are fighting (and defending) their own rights. Namely, in this case, gay and lesbian veterans and their families. Although the Supreme Court ruled that the federal government must recognized lawfully-wedded same-sex couples there are still some policies that govern the Department of Veterans. Depending on the state, these particular provisions have made it hard for some veterans in a same-sex marriage to get the benefits they deserve for them and their families. This is where the Veteran Spouses Equal Treatment Act which would give all veterans the same benefits as veterans who have different-sex spouses, regardless of the state.
Although the bill has not yet been introduced to Congress yet it has sparked much debate since being introduced to the House of Representatives in 2013. However, should the bill be passed it would entitle all men and women who have fought for our country the right to receive the benefits of being a veteran despite its targeted demographic being those veterans in same-sex marriages. I believe that if such a bill were passed it would show great respect to the men and women who put their lives on the line so that we could have our own freedoms. I am unsure what kind of immediate effect this would have on my daily life and city but I can’t help but think the ripple effect would be great eventually. However, since I live in Texas (a conservative, Republican state) I think it is same to assume that whoever has been affected by these policies or lack thereof would feel relief and benefit greatly.

Priorities That Work
In my post I read about the development of Trinity Groves, an area of Dallas, near the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge where dozens of restaurants are popping up. The goal of the development of these new restaurants is to create brands. In comparison, one of the priorities of urban development is economy. Both of these priorities align because by creating an area of restaurants that are known to be good it boosts the revenue for both the area and the city. In simple terms, by creating restaurants that are successful and brand worthy the goal of creating and establishing a good economy for Dallas is also met. The priority of economy helps to explain the success of the area because people flock their not only for food (aka spending money) but also to establish new business or obtain new jobs (increasing the economy). By providing an area for people to spend money AND work is an overall win-win. Throughout this part of our course I have learned more about the priorities and what shapes its success: economy, community, and environment. To me, I do believe that urban development should “go by the book” because this seems like a trifecta for a successful development. It would be hard to imagine a development that is successful that did not have a healthy economy, a tolerable & resourceful environment, and a diverse community who shared the same goals.

Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive. Unfortunately, I am still pretty sick. I stayed with my parents last night so they could take care of me. They took me to urgent care this morning and I got two shots along with some more oral antibiotics. The steroid shot has already helped reduce a lot of the inflammation in my head. My main priority right now is to just take it easy and get healthy since I am officially a week away. Prayers for a super speedy recovery would be greatly appreciated. 😊❤️🌎
