Today is the day of Winter Solstice and I came up with a tarot/oracle spread for you. I will make it tonight, but it will also work for whatever time you celebrate Yule. It mixes past, present and possible future outcome.
The Star: Dreams and hopes for the future. What is the bricht light in your heart? What can you imagine for next year if there are no limits?
Shortest Day: This year must have brought you some good memories. What good did the year bring?
Longest Night: This year must have also brought some challenges. How did you overcome it?
Bring in the new: How can you make space in your life for all the positive changes?
Banish the old: How can you best get rid of all that no longer serves you?
Gifts you bring: You are a unique experience and you should celebrate all the gifts you share with this world. And I bet there are plenty.
Happy Yule to everyone!

My Yule Ritual
A blog that describes my morning on yule.
Tumblr media
I woke up at 5:55 am, before my 6:00 am alarm. I was so excited, I woke up several times in the night to look at the clock and make sure I didn’t wake up late.
I layered on four skirts, black leggings, two sweaters and my winter coat. When I finally made it outside, it was still dark. I gathered all my magical items on my altar table and set up the candles by the light of my flashlight. Next, the fire was built so that I could light it as soon as the sun rose.
I cast a protective circle, called the elements and sat down to watch the sunrise. My coffee warmed my hands and the steam brushed my face. A plate of cookies sat nearby. Blankets were piled around my shoulders.
Tumblr media
The sun touched the tree tops around me. They blazed like a torch. A signal that it was time to light the fire. I lit my yule log that had my hopes and wishes drawn in chalk.
Tumblr media
I chanted a passage from my book of shadows. It spoke of the lengthening days and the end of the longest night.
Watching the sunrise was one of the most special moments of my life. I watched the sky turn from light blue, to pink, to orange, to blazing yellow. I felt the power of the rising sun run through my body. It left me feeling tingly and warm.
I cast a future happiness spell and filed my cauldron with pine branches and clear quartz.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I sat, covered in blankets, and watched the world brighten little by little. The fire continued to burn happily. All was beautiful and peaceful. The birds sang. I heard a roosters call in the distance. The cold wind bit at my nose. My outstretched fingers warmed by the fire. The sweet taste of jam cookies lingered in my mouth.
I felt happy and alive. The wheel of the year continued to turn.
Tumblr media
Blessed Solstice.

🕯️🌿 banishing spell to break someone’s hold over you 🌿🕯️
Tumblr media
I’m in a time of transition right now, and as I’m going through all of these big changes, I realized that I was being held back by certain unresolved relationships in my past. I designed this spell as a way of letting go of those people and freeing myself of their influences, so that I can move forward without all this emotional baggage.
What You Will Need:
a small black candle (used for banishing negative influences)
a piece of paper with the name of the person or thing you want to let go of written on it
sage (for cleansing and purification)
an obsidian stone (associated with psychic cleansing, protection, grounding, and personal transformation) (side note: this is also one of my favorite stones to meditate with!)
Optional Components:
fresh or dried basil (wards off negativity, promotes love and happiness, and is associated with peace in many cultures)
a selenite crystal (an extremely powerful cleansing stone, especially for cleansing emotional energies)
a rose quartz crystal (associated with forgiveness, healing, and compassion) (if you don’t have rose quartz, I would recommend using a pink spell candle to bring the energy of compassion and forgiveness into the spell.)
I had two different people I wanted to let go of, so I had two black candles and two pieces of paper. Ordinarily, you should just need one of everything.
Note: This ritual involves setting objects on fire. For this reason, I recommend performing it outside.
Tumblr media
Casting the Spell:
Begin by getting yourself into the right mood for magic.  Maybe meditate for a few minutes, put on some instrumental music, burn your favorite incense, etc.
Take a moment to ground and center yourself.
Cleanse your space. You can do this by lighting your sage and wafting its smoke around yourself, your tools, and your general area. Close your eyes, inhale the smoke, and feel yourself being cleansed and blessed.
Light your black candle. As you do so, begin thinking about the person or thing you want to let go of, of the effect they have had on your life, and of the reason(s) you need to be free of their influence.
Take the piece of paper with the person or thing’s name written on it, and hold it over the candle flame. PLEASE BE CAREFUL NOT TO BURN YOURSELF. Hold the paper over the flame only long enough for it to light, and then set it down on the ground. It should continue to burn.
As you watch the paper burn, recite the following incantation: “[Name]’s hold over me is broken. He/she/they/it has no power over me. I am free of his/her/their/its influence.”
Repeat this incantation as many times as feels right to you. If you follow my blog, you know that I like to work with the number nine in my magic, so I repeated it nine times.
Allow yourself to feel all of the pain and frustration that this person or thing has caused in your life. Acknowledge these feelings – they are a normal and valid part of our emotional healing process, but they are no longer serving you. You have passed the phase in healing where they are useful. Focus on these feelings for a moment, and then let them go. Feel them being carried away from you, leaving you free of their weight.
If you chose to include basil, use the candle’s flame to light it. Watch the smoke rise and smell its sweet aroma. Feel peace and happiness flowing into you to replace all the pain you’ve just let go of. (Again, be careful not to burn yourself!)
Once you feel at peace, blow out your black candle to end the ritual. I find that with banishings and other “letting go” or “getting rid of” spells, it’s best not to prolong the spell any longer than necessary. Do what you need to do, and then end the ritual. Don’t give these negative influences any more or your time and attention than you absolutely have to.
Light your sage again, and do one final cleansing of yourself and your space. This will make sure that you are cleared of any lingering negativity, and I feel like it kind of just puts a “final seal” on the powerful cleansing you’ve just done.
This spell is all about your healing and personal growth. It’s not about removing the other person from your life, or wishing any harm on them – it is simply a way of cutting the ties that allow them to control you. Because of this, I find that this spell works best after the person or thing you want to let go of is no longer a part of your life, and after you’ve had some time to process your emotions and allow yourself to grieve. Pain has its place, and sometimes we need to allow ourselves to feel it instead of trying to get rid of it immediately.

MC’s Guidebook: Crystals
Tumblr media
Welcome back to another addition of MC’s Guidebook! Now, Crystals are something most, not all, witches have, use and adore with a passion. Don’t worry if you aren’t one of them, doesn’t make you any less of a witch. However, even if you aren’t passionate you may have a few of these tiny babies(or large ones) in your care/possession! Let’s go over a few things!
—————-
What is a Crystal?
a piece of a homogeneous solid substance having a natural geometrically regular form with symmetrically arranged plane faces;  any solid consisting of a symmetrical, ordered, three-dimensional aggregation of atoms or molecules;  a piece of crystalline substance believed to have healing powers(google)
a body that is formed by the solidification of a chemical element, a compound, or a mixture and has a regularly repeating internal arrangement of its atoms and often external plane faces(Merriam-webster)
My Definition: a stone or mineral that has a specific name and purpose, that is easily found and made in the earth naturally.
What Are Crystals Used For?
Honestly? Crystals aren’t used for anything mundanely aside from looking nice and pretty. For magical uses, they can be used to aid in healing, to help with spells, be an ingredient in spells, etc.
Where Can I Get Crystals?
In nature like rivers etc(there’s a post out there about it, I’ll have to find it) or in a store that is trusted. I usually get mine from a lady at the flea market. She goes out and finds these stones to make jewelry with and the pieces she can’t she sells them for like five dollars or less depending on the size.Just make sure you can trust them.
Any Stores You Recommend?
@bekkathyst has a lot of beauties I want but sadly can’t afford. I think 90% of the witch community swears by their stones and crystals.
How Are Crystals Magic?
Well it’s all in their energies. Each crystal has a different correspondence, yeah, but the energies they provide can be different from what they correspond to. These energies can help you by simply bringing them with you for what you need. Feel like you need some help in the protection department? Have a crystal that feels protective? Carry it with you. Crystals also are said to have healing properties(that is something I suggest doing research into)
What if I Can’t/Have Trouble Feeling Energies?
That’s okay! You can use correspondences or ask tarot cards! Doing a quick reading of your crystals with your cards(if you have them) can help you out a lot! I can’t remember who made the spread, but I remember the spread vaguely enough: 1- What are your energies 2- what lessons can you help with. There’s more cards, I just can’t remember them all. I think there was just three, I’ll have to find that again later.
What If I Don’t Have/Don’t Use Tarot Cards?
That’s alright too! You can easily use what they correspond with, It shouldn’t be too much of a problem at all!
Crystal Correspondences:
Now, all crystals have different correspondences, I can’t list all of them, but pretty much you can find books, articles, websites and posts here on different correspondences for different crystals. However, it’s important you think about how you feel about those things. If a correspondence doesn’t feel right to you then you aren’t wrong. So let’s say Rose Quartz typical;y for many stands for love, self care, etc, but you don’t feel it corresponds with love but lust instead, you can do that. Correspondences are mostly personal thoughts on things. However I’m bad with them sooooo I usually go with what is said until I feel it doesn’t work for it. Mostly, it’s a trial and error sort of thing for myself personally.
What Crystals Should a Beginner Have?
In my opinion?
Any type of Quartz (cleansing, protection, love, acceptance etc)
Any Kind of Obsidian(banishing, protection, etc)
These types are really good to start out with, but you aren’t limited to them alone.
How Do I Keep Track of My Crystals?
I recommend keeping a journal or a few pages in your grimoire for them! You can have a list with drawings and details about how they look, the energies they possess etc and be able to keep it all in one place! I’m actually about to do this so I’ll probably make a separate post explaining how later.
Where Should I Keep My Crystals?
I keep all of mine in a black back since mine are small enough to fit in it, but large enough(at least most of them) to not slide out of it. Now, I only have them here until I find a better method of keeping them out(without a cat knocking them over and helping me loose more of them*sigh*). For the most part, keeping them on a shelf that won’t be messed with is a good place, so is a box or a bead organizer box if the crystals are small enough.
How Can I Tell if My Crystals Are Real and Not Glass/Fake?
Most crystals are a form of glass if I remember correctly, However, you will have to ask a few people to help you determine the realness. It’s better if the people see the stone face to face, but some can tell just by a photo(I am not one of these people).
Do Crystals Need Any Care?
Abso-fucking-lutely. Crystals are a tool in witchcraft. Like any good tool you need to cleanse and charge them regularly!
How Do I Cleanse My Crystals?
Like you could anything else:
Smoke
Water
Earth
Meditation
Etc
How Do I Charge My Crystals?
Setting them out in/Putting up:
Sunlight
Moonlight
Starlight
Crystal Grids
Etc
Crystal Care Cautions:
Again, not all crystals are the same and it must be noted to do your research on what your crystals can deal with:
Not all crystals can be in water– they may dissolve or loose their color from being put in water(note some can be toxic if your making gem elixir as well and it’s good to look into that before doing it)
Not all crystals can be in Sunlight. Again this can drain their color. This especially goes for Amethyst. I cannot tell you how many Amethyst crystals I have that lost their color due to me being young or being gifted them from family members who left them in the sun
Not all crystals are hard. Putting them in a box with other crystals can and will most likely break them. This goes especially for Amber.
Not all crystals can be broken. Some are actually toxic if not smoothed and glossed over. This goes for Tigers Eye. Please don’t break this. It’s a hazardous material once broken.
Do I Have To Use Crystals in my Magic?
Not at all! It’s your magic use what you want in it! If you like crystals and looking at them, then that is perfectly okay.
Gate-keeping Crystals:
Don’t. Seriously, I don’t know the discourse or what’s going on with crystal lovers out there. But let people enjoy their rocks, crystals and minerals without being a jackass okay? Okay. Glad to get that out of the way.
Sincerely,
The Sleepy Witch

Yule Positive Spell
♡Happy Solstice!!! Hope you all have a merry Yule!!!♡ We want you to finish this year with the best of energy and positive vibes, so here below will be the steps to take in this longest night of the year.
Gather your items and light the candle. You don’t have to pronounce words but if it helps you visualize, you can do it. Think of how the fire of the candle will cleanse your loved ones and your soul.
Place the red ribbon in the bottle and thing of how this color is the color of love and how it connects you all.
Place the cinnamon with the chestnuts and imagine its all your loved ones together and yourself in this peaceful night even if you wont be able to see them all.
Write your intention on the paper. Any positive emotion or wish you want them all to have.
Put the paper in the bottle and grab the candle. Drip the melted wax on the contents inside.
You can keep thinking on this peaceful moment and the positive energy you are creating to charge yourself more.
Extinguish the candle

Winter Solstice Tarot Spread ❄️
The winter soltice is a great way to welcome the darkness and hibernate as the shortest day of the year arrives. While you relax during the winter months, it’s a great time to reflect on your shadow self (the part of you that you try to deny or hide from others)
1) What is the essence of my inner shadow self?
2) What can I learn from my shadow self?
3) How can I bring my shadow self into the light?
4) What lights me up from within?
5) What new seeds am I planting?
6) What do I need to release in order to create space for growth?
Have fun with this spread during the solstice or throughout the winter! Also enjoy the full moon tonight! 🌝

New to runes?
I found this neat five-part article series on norse-mythology.org. It gives a general overview of how the runes came to be and their general meanings. It’s a pretty short read, so if you’re interested it’s definitely worth a click.
Part I: Introduction
Part II: The Origins of the Runes
Part III: Runic Philosophy and Magic

Winter Solstice Tarot Spread
Happy Solstice everyone! I thought I’d put together a little spread for the day. It can be done with three cards, one card for each section; or if you’d prefer a more in depth spread, you can use multiple cards for each section.
One - Darkness: This card represents what you can learn from the past year. On this longest night, there is plenty of time to look back on the year that has just been.
Two - Stasis: This card represents what you can reflect upon in this moment. Solstice is a time of transformation, and as you wait in this liminal time between the two halves of the year, what does this teach you?
Three - Light: This card represents what the new year may bring to you. As you look forward to the lighter days that come, what energies can you bring in for in the new year?

Wax Seal Charms
From simple love spells to glamours and hexes, wax seal charms are a powerful and versatile tool for any witch’s arsenal. Small, inconspicuous, and easy to hide, these simple charms are useful for nearly any type of magick.
Tumblr media
First, you will need a smooth work surface (I used the bottom of a ceramic bowl). Fold a small envelope from a square of paper. You want the envelope to be the same size as or smaller than the wax seal to ensure complete wax coverage.
Tumblr media
Next, write your intent (or draw a sigil) on the inside of the envelope. Keep it simple or write very small.
Tumblr media
You can add a small pinch of herbs (or a taglock) if you like, but try not to use too much or the charm won’t flatten and may not seal correctly.
Tumblr media
Once you’ve added your herbs, fold the envelope shut. You may need to squish it a little to keep it closed.
Tumblr media
Pour your wax over the envelope, making sure to cover any open edges, and place your stamp in the molten wax. Apply light pressure for a few moments and then allow to cool.
Tumblr media
Once completely cool, remove your stamp and peel the charm off your work surface.
Tumblr media
And voila! A small, portable charm that can easily be slipped into a purse or wallet unnoticed.

Things on my blog will be quiet for awhile until I get settled into my new life. It’s not easy on me to walk away from everything and start over somewhere new but it’s time for me to start a new chapter in my life. I’m not sure where things will take me but I know in the end it’s for the best.
