The Thar desert found in India. Most of it is found in the state of Rajasthan (Kings Land - Land of Kings), with parts stretching into Pakistan, the Indian state of Gujurat, Punjab, and Haryana. There is a unique tradition there in the city of Bikaner - the camel festival.

Some architecture from the area:

This is an utterly beautiful place in the world and just one of so many gems India has to offer. Bikaner has a nifty history of being an oasis trade path through central Asia and Gujurat.

Here's to some that actually did manage to survive the ( at least comparative) negligence, and the process of fading to the background of a concrete jungle

It's not just that unkept historical buildings make me sad, it's the loss of the appreciation for the architectural marvel that went into them, from the planning to the execution, to the habitation, and eventual evacuation. Colonialism left its marks on the country, but I can't help but marvel at the intricacy of the old city's architecture. The Brits knew what they were doing when it came to the aesthetic appeal of their facades. To build a very new, very deserted, very far off place in the image of your own country is quite something- at least the last remnants of their vanity is a sight for sore eyes in the unbearably haphazard area of Saddar.
