Urahara really should've known better. He really should've. Tessai wouldn't like the fact he triggered someone like Byakuya kuchiki into acting out in the middle of their shop. Honestly if he was someone more reasonable and level headed---then maybe he would've been able to control his temper better. Better at not giving into his impulses and his whims so easily. But it was fine. Kisuke knew better than anyone he could defend himself. He was a former captain and Byakuya Kuchiki would not scare him.
"So hot tempered. And in the middle of my poor shop, Byakuya Kuchiki." He replies with a tsk sound to his voice, as he stands and reaches for the end of his cane, pulling out Benihime in a swift and precise motion. Eyes were sharp and glaring underneath the cover of his hat. "You should really develop a better sense of humor. Otherwise you'll just chop up anybody who you disagree with."
"But it's fine, you wanna act like a spoiled and hot tempered child, then I can gladly teach you a lesson like one."
Byakuya narrows slate grey eyes as he looked towards Urahara. This man clearly did nothing but offend. It was inconceivable that Yoruichi should even associate. Yet, she had - did even to this day find this man tolerable. He was the epitome of everything which offended noble sensibility. The way he mocked him. The way that smug grin crossed his face - all of it offensive. Byakuya's hand twitched as he thought about reaching for Senbonzakura to cut him down. However, he refrained from doing so because he had self-control.
❝Your idea of fun is twisted and irrelevant. ❞
❝However, since you want me to show you, then allow me. ❞ However, he was also impulsive and in one swift motion the blade was removed from its sheath. He'd decided enough was enough.
❝Scatter, Senbonzakura. ❞

"Oh nonsense. I wouldn't be so dramatic. I'd only pout and be sad is all, next we met." Urahara is grinning like a school child. He was always happy to provide his "assistance" to young reapers in need like Toshiro here. Captain or not. "Yes, Yes. I believe he's nearby. I swore I sensed his presence passing by a local park with one of his friends. Something about studying or another. You know the boy has truly fallen behind in his studies." A price to pay for being a subsititue shinigami. The work life balance as it were. He skips along happily forward, taking a turn at a nearby corner. his sandals clanking with his steps. "So tell me how are things Captain? Back at the soul Society?"
❝It feels like you're about to make my job ten times harder. But if I tell you no, you'll tag along more like a dog with no home. ❞ He sighs defeated. There's no use in arguing here. ❝So where is Kurosaki Ichigo? You claim to know where to find him. Lead the way. ❞ Of course, considering Ichigo leaks his reitsu like a giant bat signal Toshiro could easily find him. However, he's using the substitute shinigami as a scapegoat to get out of this interaction. His plan is to ditch this crazy shopkeep with Kurosaki Ichigo and shunpo away as fast as possible.

Perhaps Urahara really did have that death wish. Maybe provoking Byakuya was just an excuse to act impulsively as always. Either way as he heard his reply he wanted to laugh. What was this? Prostate himself? Urahara would prostrate himself over his own dead body. There was nothing on earth that would make him lower himself to the noble than he already had. Acting like a house servant, fixing his tea and everything just like how he liked. But then, maybe Urahara was being way too serious about this. Judging by his request maybe he could still have a little fun with this.
"Oh I'm just having a bit of fun, Captain. Where is the harm in that? You know being so serious all the time isn't fun." He grinned, keeping up his silly persona but casting a knowing glance with his grey gaze. "Sometimes you have to know when to--let loose as the kids these days say."
"Oh you want me to bow my head do you, your highness?" He repeats the title with a semi-mocking tone. He then scoots towards Byakuya, on his hands and knees no less, crawling towards him carefully and calculated. He stops until he's a couple inches away from Byakuya, maintaining eye contact.
"Well I guess I could be bothered. But you'd have to help me, majesty. Show me exactly how you want me. Otherwise I might further offend you, yes?"
❝If you do not want me to think of your silliness as ignorance then stop acting like a fool. It's simple. After all, you started this and I am merely reminding you that I know who you really are. ❞ Slate eyes narrow at Urahara as this moment of seriousness washed over them both before the mood inevitably shifts. Urahara is never one to remain serious for long.
It's punctuated by his next words. Byakuya can feel the rage boiling within as he hears those words again. It seemed Urahara doubled down. No - tripled down on the nickname which caused his eye to twitch in irritation. It takes everything in him not to immediately release his shikai and shred this shopkeeper to pieces.
Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Princess.
❝You seem very eager to test the limits of my good will. ❞ Byakuya clenched his jaw, locking his gaze on Urahara as he brought the tea to his lips once more, taking a punctuated sip of it before setting it down on the table with elegance. Each movement calculated and executed with all the grace of a nobleman, a testament to his rearing.
❝Of course, if I am indeed a princess, then you must refer to me as your highness. Bow your head in respect and prostrate yourself before me. ❞

Teaching you to Dance (but oh, don't I love you?)
"Come on, dance with me."
"Let me take your hand and spin you."
"I won't drop you."
"I can teach you, if you trust me."
"You're so graceful! You're beautiful!"
"You just have to believe in your steps. Have confidence."
"Follow after me - one two three four,"
"And you put your foot here, lean forward - into my arms."
"I'm going to lift you, are you ready?"
"Trust in yourself! You can do it!"
"And your dress flares out, like a fire, a light!"
"Nice straight back, keep your hips still, it's all in the legs."
"You move away - then I pull you close."
"You want me - you can't have me! But you want me again -"
"Close, closer, there we go, body to body -"
"I need to feel your heartbeat, we move as one."
"Each step is us, together."
"My hand around your waist, like this. Yours around mine."
"Don't worry - it's all part of the dance."
"You have to believe it, believe that she's in love, because she is."
"It's all about the story. When they look into each other's eyes."
"Sorry, I lost - I forgot the step, let's do it again?"
"I'm going to hold your hand, but you pull away at any time."
"This is everything, throwing it all into one little moment!"
"Their eyes meet, everything in that breath - and then away! Away!"
"Mind your feet - they have to move at the same time as mine, but you can't look down."
"It has to be as natural as breathing."
"Dancing is trusting yourself entirely to your partner."
"I have to trust that you'll follow when I lead."
"I'm going to pull you close, and we'll move, but don't worry - I'm not going to let you fall."

✱˚。⋆ ↪ 𝐔𝐍𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋 𝐔𝐍𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐇 . ( a collection of lyric - based prompts based on hozier's album . adjust phrasing as necessary . )
i'm holding my world together with a bootstring .
i would do it again if i could hold you for a minute .
my life was a storm since i was born , how could i fear any hurricane ?
heaven is not fit to house a love like you and i .
i miss when we did not need much .
we didn't get it right , but we did our best .
when people say that something is forever , either way it ends .
i have never known a silence like the one fallen here .
there's money to be made , whatever is still to come .
i don't want to be anything like this at all .
there are some things that nobody teaches you .
we can celebrate the good that we've done .
if there was anyone to get through this life with their heart in tact , they didn't do it right .
all i needed was someone .
you only feel it when it's lost .
the awful things we do to make our heads feel quiet .
you may never know your fortune .
so far from home to have a stranger call you 'darling' .
i'm a butchered tongue still singing here above the ground .
if i was a riptide , i wouldn't take you out .
knowing that everything ends won't change our plan .
i feel lighter than i have in so much time .
i don't know how the feeling ended .
i know we want this to go easy by being somebody's fault .
how could i fall when i am lifted by every word you say to me ?
if i said that this was drowning , you'd tell me i'm walking on water .
who wants to live forever , babe ?
old and young are welcome to the meal .
how can something be so much heavier but so much less than what it seems ?
we had nowhere to go and every desire to go there .
if i fall , i only pray , don't fall away from me .
all our weight is just a burden offered to us by the world .
getting through still has a cost .
so much of our life is just carving through the dark .
after this i'm never gonna be the same .
some part of me must have died the first time you called me 'baby' .
are there limits to emptiness ?
i wish i was the sunlight , just sitting on the mississippi .
if you need to , darling , lean your weight onto me .
you can't buy this fineness .
some part of me must have come alive the first time you called me 'baby' .
the future's so bright it's burning .
i would do anything just to run away .
i heard once , it's the comforts that make us feel numb .
darkness always finds you , either way .
i know being reckless and young isn't how the damage gets done .
i haven't felt it since then .
i do not have wings , love , and i never will .
one time we would want for nothing , we knew what our love was worth .
i think i'll take my whiskey neat .
i'd still be surprised i could find you , in any life .
i don't need to know where we begin and end .
my name always hits my ears as such an awful sound .
i'm taking no orders , i'm gonna be nobody's soldier .
living the dream , benzos and gasoline .
i wish i could go along , don't get me wrong .
do you think i'd give up ?
i'm infinitely suffering , but fighting it off like all creation .
if you're drunk on life , babe , that's great .
what good would it be on the far side of things ?
i aim low , i aim true and to the ground is where i go .
i wouldn't sell the world , i would hold on for all its worth .
choose between being a butcher and a pauper .
i feel as useful as dirt .
it's the sound of it that brings me here .
when was the last time ?
i want to fade away with you .
whatever keeps you around , it keeps you around .
funny how true colors shine in darkness and secrecy .
when i was younger , i used to guess if there were limits to emptiness .
you know i'm good on my own .
one bright morning changes all things .
i'm sick to my skin , watching the news again .
how could you think i'd scare so easily ?
now that it's done , there's not one thing i would change .
would all things god allows remain above ground ?
i'd walk so far just to take the injury of finally knowing you .
you treat your mouth like it's heaven's gate .
could this be how every day begins ?
i can scarce believe what i'm believing in .
whatever you choose , you lose in the long run .
your reflection can't offer a word to the bliss of not knowing yourself .
the goal i was aiming for was the wrong one .
you're too sweet for me .
your heart , love , has such darkness .
let the sun only shine on me through a falling sky .
i don't wanna choose between being a salesman and a soldier .
how do you sleep so well ?
i wouldn't sell the world for all the gold and sterling .
the street is for the laughter of young women and men .
you can keep a dream in your mind only to find out it's the hope that's killing you .
each time i'm shocked by the light .
july is still coming , just knowing that gets me through .
maybe i have yet to venture out and see the places i dream about .
no closer could i be to god .
what you live in , it finds a way to live in you .
i want to be so far away from sight and mind .
you know the distance made no difference to me .
i thought you were like an angel to me .
i'd move so fast that i'd outpace the dawn .
all my love and terror balanced there between those two eyes .
i'm still glad i met you .
that moment i knew , i had no choice but to love you .

Urahara bites his tongue for a moment. He knows exactly what the soul society thinks of him. Of the crimes they believe he committed. Of everything. And oh boy does he never tire of hearing it thrown at his face each time. "I know what happened back then, Captain." He repeats his jaw briefly tightening. "I know why I'm here. I know my punishment is to simply be a silly little shop keep here. No one of importance of anyone. So I simply embrace that role. But I never forget, Captain. Please, never think of my silliness as ignorance. Quite the opposite."
Oh there he goes. Doing something out of pocket to trigger the Captain. Urahara didn't know how to quit. He had him calmed, he seemed like. Sitting and like a spoiled child, that he still was---like all those years ago---making demands of his tea and his service. Perhaps that's why he chose to pick on him. Or he probably just had a hidden death wish. That could also have been possible too.
"Oh forgive me, it was my dry throat. I need to take a sip myself. I had a nasty cough made it seem like I misspoke." He jests, grinning as he takes a sip out of his cup. "What I simply meant to say was, I will gladly blow on it for you, if it's hot too hot---" He pauses. "Pretty, Pretty, Pretty Princess."
❝You seem far too eager to forget who you were. Are you that ashamed of your crimes and the damning experiments you have done? ❞ Byakuya pointedly asked, patiently waiting for Urahara to bring forth the tea. ❝You can act the fool all you like, but I know who you really are. ❞ Yoruichi left the Soul Society and Seiretei for this man. Though Byakuya never knew what she saw in him.
When Urahara returns carrying a try with two cups of chai tea, Byakuya waits for him to set it down, putting two sugars in it. Once it was done, slender fingers reached for the cup and brought the cup towards his lips. The liquid was still hot, steam pouring off the cup. No sooner than the liquid touched his lips did his ears hear the words.
Princess
The chai tea catches in his throat, some dribbling past his lips as he sputtered, coughing. His slender frame shakes as Byakuya caught his breath, slate eyes glaring daggers at the shopkeeper.
❝Come again? ❞ He heard it, but his ears failed to believe it. He's been called all sorts of things before including pretty boy. However, princess was a whole new level of indignant.
His hand reached for Senbonzakura.
❝I believe you meant to refer to me as Captain Kuchiki, did you not? I can forgive you if you misspoke once. ❞

Starter Call || @hxbiris ( For Talia )
Urahara didn't necessarily make it a point to pass out in a public space. He had simply sat himself down to lay back, get away from the noise of the shop if you will. Had a book with him and everything until it had fallen over his features. Messy blonde hair crowding near his temples and his hat sideways. He felt a hand shake him, blinking as he sees a young lady waking him. "My apologies." He sits up carefully. "I guess you wanted a seat here too hmmm? Not everyday someone takes the time wake someone like me up."

"And what I have isn't that much you know. Not like I use to have back in the Soul Society." He sighs to himself. Rebuilding and making a spot for himself was as tragic as it seemed. Exiled from everything he knew. And yet, having Tessai and Yoruichi around---seemed to ease a lot of his loneliness and regrets in some ways. Plus here he had what he called: a touch more freedom to explore. The regular humans and souls here were unassuming of a little silly shop keep like himself.
"Perhaps. I know getting to try living world food was an adventure for me." He muses as he shuts the door behind the hollow. He kicks away some clutter and makes room for them in what sitting area exists in the cluttered space. He digs out a container of fresh cookies he got from the store. "Here, try one. They're butter and cinnamon flavor. Got some--kick to it if I have to describe it. Make you feel like you might cough something up at first, but then you get use to it."
continued from here @urahcra
Jirō has to manoeuvre his massive form, to relieve the worst of the rain from landing through his mask. Despite his best efforts, beads of water drip from the bone, glueing his long white hair to the sides. A laugh caught in his throat. “Very well, shinigami. I'll take whatever you have to offer.” The hollow dipped down until he's peering closer into the stranger's face. Quite casual attire for a soul reaper, he notes with some interest.
“ You have something to offer, don't you? Even with my food palette, I'm curious to how food and drink tastes now. Haven't you ever wondered how one's preferences could change based on circumstances?”

"Always gotta remind me of the past, you reapers do. Who I was, who I use to be. Right now I'm just a silly shop keeper." He grins but deep down he also knows those titles still hold some weight to him. Even if he didn't dawn the coat anymore. Urahara still wanted to protect in his own way the things that he held dear. In spite of the exile and hardship he faced daily. "But fine, If you wanna be so serious Captain. I guess I can be too."
Man if he had a working camera right now. He could just take a picture of the infamous Captain sitting so patiently in his sitting room. Urahara knew that no one would believe him. But of course he carried on, getting the pot on the stove and digging through his collection of teas. Settling on a chai flavor that Tessai had splurged on from the market.
Once he's done, with a cheerful tune whistling from his lips he walks in with a tray set up with the tea pot and two cups. And of course a small bowl with sugar for Byakuya. "Fresh off the stove, get it while it's hot." He teases as he sets up a cup for Byakuya and pours the fresh water onto the tea leaves. He then scoops two small spoonfuls of sugar into his cup, before settling back himself to set up his own cup.
"Let me know if it's too hot." He grins. "I can always blow on it a little for ya---" His voice drops to a playful whisper. "Princess."
❝You are by no means a normal civilian. We can drop the act Urahara. You are a former captain of the 13 Court Guard companies. In fact, you were assistant captain of 2nd company prior to becoming a captain. ❞ Byakuya knew full well who Kisuke Urahara was. This man was insufferable and only lived to play around.
When Urahara opened the door, Byakuya stepped through and noted how messy and dingy the store was. It was just as Sui-Feng once described it. In fact, he could hardly believe Rukia had ever come to a place such as this for help. However, Yoruichi was a fickle creature, and he could believe she called this place home. The Seireitei was well aware of Kisuke Urahara's connections in the Rukongai. They turned a blind eye for whatever reason. It suited his superior so he never looked too much into it.
Choosing a relatively clean spot free of clutter, the noble captain seated himself and placed Senbonzakura close to him at his side. ❝I will accept only the finest quality tea you have in your possession. I will accept it with two sugars. ❞

"Oh my goodness. Threatening to pull out your blade on me and everything. That simply leaves a simple civilian like myself trembling in their boots." He even gives himself a little shake as if to add to his point. But of course he really was just trying to get a rise out of him. Urahara was a creature of habit really. He couldn't help but poke the bear when it came to people sometimes. Especially someone as noble and proud as Byakuya Kuchiki.
He only chuckled at his request. "Of course, Of course. Right this way Captain. My casa is su casa as the saying goes. Anything for someone of such great nobility." Urahara knows that he's probably still on thin ice but he's nothing if not a great host, leading the way down the street towards his humble abode.
Kisuke is even so polite as to open up the shop doors for Byakuya, and allow him to enter inside. The floors were of course messy with fresh boxes to be opened, and such. And maybe some loose experiment notes here and there. But he would happily kick that mess aside so the Captain could make his way to their sitting area. "Make yourself at home, Captain. I'll get a pot going."
❝Interesting. You claim you know how strong I am and yet you appear before me with the express intent of getting under my skin. It seems that you will need to face the full force of Senbonzakura before you truly understand. Should you continue down this path, I will oblige. ❞ Byakuya on a level understood that Kisuke was simply trying to get a rise from him. Unfortunately, no matter how many years pass, he's still the same stubborn kid. That was his folly.
He sheathed his sword, Senbonzakura's familiar presence settling at his hip. As graceful and serene as he appeared, there was a truth which lie hidden in plain sight - he was still impulsive and whimsical. ❝If you are done being an inconvenience then quickly take me to your store and serve me tea. ❞

"No harm in some playful bullying back then. I was a different man then, too. Any time I happen to spot Sui-feng now I'm usually very polite." Or so he says, but really he's just a spot of sunshine to most people he meets. As they may groan or just outright show disdain for the exiled reaper. He merely brushed it aside and simply acted as charming as he always did.
And perhaps that's exactly why Urahara indulged his reckless. Kisuke knew deep down they were just that: People. Even if they had eons of baggage behind them. Events unfolding around them that they weren't in control of. The tides shifting as everyday people went on about their lives. So he too would indulge in his own childish antics, blow stuff up--experiment and such.
"I consider this to be almost like a therapy you know. Go out, blow something up and just regroup you know?" He turns and follows her, hands tucked under his sleeves. "Perhaps I could tempt you for a spot of tea hmm? You know tessai splurged and got this special tea that's to die for."
❝There's no point in lying Kisuke. You're absolutely reckless. I remember when Sui-Feng used to be so concerned about you. They used to complain to me all the time about how you'd shame squad two. ❞ At one point, Yoruichi started teasing them about it, even insisting they had a crush on him. Maybe she was a little to mean about that. Sui-Feng never did appreciate the jest.
Still, those were the days. She lived a rather carefree life when she was captain of squad two. Maybe a little too carefree since she didn't foresee the damages that'd happen leading to so many of the captains and Shinigami leaving the Soul Society. It was regrettable, but there was no going back to those days.
Surveying the damage, it was very minimal. She turns, her tail swishing lightly behind her as she makes her way back towards Kisuke's shop. While they're enjoying a lull now, Aizen's war was still on the horizon. They had work to do, however, she could appreciate the distraction he afforded her.
❝Moments like this, it's easy to forget that we're living beings. That we don't need to be on guard and constantly tense. I think I was starting to forget how much of a prankster I could be. ❞
