Yeehawgust Day 1: On the Road Again
This is a very loose and fast redraw of a picture from a road trip I took with my family in April (below the cut). We had just driven on the memorial highway out of Natural Bridges in Utah and this overlook was our last stop before we got back on the road in earnest to make our next stop for the night. It was already dusk, but I played with colors from photos earlier in the day. Could be better, but I'm mostly happy with it for what it is!

a selection of quilt blocks for the next skirt! the nonbinary color choice on the fabric was completely by accident.

(mostly) done new skirt! Fully handmade, from the dyeing of the fabric to the design and construction of the skirt.

Pink linen I over-dyed twice with navy-purple and then brown using a dyeing technique close to shibori. It's currently becoming a cartridge-pleated skirt - you can see a sample of this in the last image. It's sort of a mix between gathering and pleating. The gathering thread (or threads in this case, and I ran 4 through) is stitched in at even intervals, so the gathers become tiny, even pleats. It's essentially the same as smocking.

the aforementioned sketch book, which I made by hand. it's called a springback binding and has a mechanism that basically pinches the signature block (pages), then snaps into position when opened and closed, either holding the book closed or open perfectly flat. It's sticking up like that because I've added a bunch of photos and polaroids scrapbook-style. I have some copic tests (first time using copics specifically on the two portraits), plus some gel pen experiments with drawing close to CMYK with pens. I love the wobble-face and this one is the first iteration of it! You can see how that idea was carried forward into my notebook cover a few posts back.

some oud sketches from when I first listened to Magnus Archives - first page includes sketches of Gerry, Jon, and Martin. Second page is an OC of mine I've had for years. Third page is following through on that Gerry design.

THE best trichrome outcome I've had so far. First three images are red, green, and blue respectively. The shadows of me are from color mixing on the layers where my image is absent.

one of my first passes at trichrome photography, which I now love and will do more of! You use red, green, and blue color filters on black and white film, taking the same image each time. In theory, the filters only let through light in their wavelength, so you can stack the images digitally in red, green, and blue color channels and get a color image!

the inn had these leaded glass panes in the ceiling that haven't been moved since their installation in the 30s. The designs are inspired by Hopi basket designs (and I think painted by Hopi painters but I can't quite remember)

site map from the Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site. The lines were raised and everything was labeled with braille. I was particularly taken by the way the labels were printed over the braille, so the map labels were in the same place rather than offset. Idk it was really striking in the afternoon sun.
