fire in their veins
Katara's newfound forgiveness of Zuko is a little hard for him to grasp. Zuko's unwavering support of Katara confuses her. They talk about it, and learn a little more about each other on the way. Post-Southern Raiders, pre-Ember Island Players.

Concept I've been stewing on for a while here. I've got a name for it now and I'm calling it the Shot Dog Factor. It's a numerical value, assignable to any internet post, which represents the average number of engagements it needs to reach before someone comes along acting like this post shot their dog.
And for the sake of High Number = More Danger, which feels like the intuitive and sensible read, let's call it the inverse. As in the chance that any given interaction results in a Shot Dog response.
"Hee hee haa haa" type of silly shitpost? Low Shot Dog Factor. Largely safe. A genuine political opinion? Critically high Shot Dog Factor. Guaranteed to elicit such a response if it breaks containment.
As a result of this phenomenon, you see phrasings and circumventions added specifically to lower the Shot Dog factor. Every "now I know this doesn't apply to EVERYONE'S specific situation, but I just think--" about something where the non-specificity was obvious, but OP needed to add that disclaimer to avoid the Shot Dog from someone who thinks it needs to apply to them.
And another--perhaps the most--critical thing to understand about the Shot Dog factor is that 0 is not a valid value. There's a discontinuation at 0. And as such, the Shot Dog limit, as engagement goes to infinity is, in fact, 100%. Any and every post you have ever made, given enough containment breaching, WILL piss someone off in wild ways. You can lower the Shot Dog factor but it is never 0. Sometimes when a post of yours escapes containment, you must simply sit back and accept this reality.

Timely warning before voting day in Come Follow Me:
20 But behold, it shall come to pass that they shall be driven and scattered by the Gentiles; and after they have been driven and scattered by the Gentiles, behold, then will the Lord remember the covenant which he made unto Abraham and unto all the house of Israel.
21 And also the Lord will remember the prayers of the righteous, which have been put up unto him for them.
22 And then, O ye Gentiles, how can ye stand before the power of God, except ye shall repent and turn from your evil ways?
23 Know ye not that ye are in the hands of God? Know ye not that he hath all power, and at his great command the earth shall be rolled together as a scroll?
24 Therefore, repent ye, and humble yourselves before him, lest he shall come out in justice against you—lest a remnant of the seed of Jacob shall go forth among you as a lion, and tear you in pieces, and there is none to deliver.
Mormon 5:20-24
This is directly to us by a prophet who saw our day. This is so obviously telling people of the United States of America to repent or be destroyed. Choose this day whom ye will serve, the king men or liberty.
Will we continue in hatred and the worshipping of wealth and those who have it? Will we ignore the homeless and the hungry because they should’ve picked a better job field? Will we allow hundreds to thousands die by allowing people who only care about money be the ones safeguarding employees and consumers? Will we continue to enforce nebulous religious ideals to the detriment of nonbelievers and believers who just wanted to grow their family?
Will we stop going down a path that has terrible, bitter fruit by learning from our mistakes and pick a new path to see if its fruit is good? Will we repent of our false traditions and open our hearts to new ones that bring us closer to the pure love of Christ? Will we welcome in a new era of peace and righteousness?

at some point you have to realize that you actually have to read to understand the nuance of anything. we as a society are obsessed with summarization, likely as a result of the speed demanded by capital. from headlines to social media (twitter being especially egregious with the character limit), people take in fragments of knowledge and run with them, twisting their meaning into a kaleidoscope that dilutes the message into nothing. yes, brevity is good, but sometimes the message, even when communicated with utmost brevity, requires a 300 page book. sorry.

Good to know honestly, I’m halfway through now and things are *slightly* more interesting. And honestly I’m looking forward to the Sander-lanche for this one😂
Oooh is Elantris a must read before Tress?? I was planning on doing Tress, then mistborn era 2 (don’t worry, I read mistborn era 1) then Stormlight Archive

i will never understand anyone who argues that zuko being kind and empathetic is a mischaracterization. did we watch the same show?! his entire arc is about being more in touch with his good side after being pressured to supress them by his father and realizing that traits such as empathy and kindness does not make him weak.

it actually annoys me immensely that people can't hear christians complaining about people being dicks about christianity without going "ugh stupid christian victim complex don't you know that's not REAL oppression?"
YES, actually. i know it's not oppression. i am fully aware that oppression is a different thing with significant impacts on people's lives, and i never claimed to be oppressed. i just don't like it when people are mean about things that are important to me. it's not that deep.

how did the atla fandom become so insanely toxic? like seriously i want to know how that happened. was it always like this? i watched the show a few months ago and was in a total bliss, then i entered the fandom… and why is everyone so fucking hateful. like for no reason. you can’t enjoy anything. constant wars between characters, ships, shows, other fandoms. i had to ignore everything and everyone and close myself in my own bubble to remain sane. i’ve never seen anything like it. it almost completely ruined the experience for me.
so seriously guys how did you come to this? i want to know the process behind it because i just can’t fathom how such a life-changing masterpiece that has at its core such noble, beautiful themes and incredible characters can end up creating a fandom that is actually the very opposite of a community. because i get disagreeing but this fandom is on a whole other level all the hate is actually just disgusting
