          He forgot that people didn’t know who he was because he rarely went out with his family. “No… he’s the mayor. And I think you call the main person that works at a museum a director. Everyone else has a different title, I think.” Derek was pretty sure that was correct. “Well that’s the mystery isn’t it? That they had ways for it not to go missing and it still did. That’s the whole reason it’s a big deal.” Derek’s father had been angry because that was the whole reason for the gala this year. “Anyway, it’ll probably turn up. There’s like… black markets and things.” 

Remi grimaced, “Yikes, that’s definitely more important than the museum director, I think. Your dad has to deal with like real, living stuff. And museum people deal with the dead stuff that’s in super secure boxes... And a vase with feet, apparently.” She kept rambling softly, her fingers playing with a dinosaur shaped rubber band she had found on the floor. She shrugged, “I guess.” The cogs in her brain were already turning. “That’s actually a great idea...It’s probably not on eBay but in the deep web... You’ve ever been into the deep web?”

Remi’s sitting on the only swing that isn’t broken in the dilapidated neighborhood park that’s right next to the trailer where she lives. She doesn’t particularly enjoy the playground: everything’s broken and vandalized and it’s littered with drug paraphernalia, but she has a clear view of her mobile home’s door, so she’ll be able to notice when her sister and her new conquest leave (should she even call them boyfriends when they only stick around for a couple of days to do stuff with her?) and Remi can go inside to see if they left any food behind. It’s been about 12 hours since the brunette’s last meal and she’s hoping they left at least some pizza crusts, let alone whole slices. She’s not getting paid from her job at the pet store until three more days and her past earnings went directly into Melissa’s needs as per usual. 

Her stomach grumbling gets interrupted by a commotion happening around the corner and Remi leaps to her feet, knowing older kids like to bother the cats that live by the apartment complex. What she sees is Danny Turner, Felix’s friend and basically her neighbor, yelling furiously at some bigger, way bigger dude. Remi’s not brave, quite the opposite. She usually hides, but something makes her jump forward, her skinny body almost invisible. She takes a rock from the splintered pavement as another participant seems to be dragging Danny away and she throws, not even aiming. But she hears a yelp and in the instant of confusion that follows she takes the younger boy’s hand and she sprints as fast as her short legs can take her, tugging him behind him until they are safely behind a set of dumpsters. Looking at him warily, apologetically, she pants out: “That’s... That was... That guy h-hurts cats.” It’s all she can say, still holding his hand.

It’s almost SHOCKING, the shit that comes out of Dan’s mouth, especially considering the size of him. This week, however, he’s been particularly on edge. So when a KID that lives next door to him decides to make a comment about how it was probably one of the TRASHY TURNERS that stole the vase for a bit of drug money, he SNAPS. Right in the middle of the street. ‘‘You fucking KNOW WHAT, you’re a mother fucking piece of SHIT. ’’ he’s shouting, he doesn’t even give a fuck if people hear him. He doesn’t even give a fuck that this KID is two years older than him and about six foot tall. Maybe it’s the fact that he’s irritable after his dad hit him with heroin last night. maybe it’s his brother’s disappearance, or his sisters worsening condition. he doesn’t know. but he’s angry. ‘‘ You’re a fucking NASTY mother fucker, so check yourself before you trash talk m f- ’’ before he can even finish his sentence he feels someone grab him under the arms, pulling him away.  ‘‘ Let me fucking GO - ’’ fists are FLYING.

“If you are here to ask about the vase…. then I’m kindly going to have to ask you to leave. My dad doesn’t tell me anything about what’s going on.” Derek looked at the ground and pulled his long sleeves down over his wrist where his dad had grabbed him the night before. 

“What’s your dad do? Is he like a museographer? Is that what you call somebody who works at a museum? I don’t know.” Remi rambled with a shrug, eyes focused on a bird that was pecking the ground before them. Probably a bobolink. A male. Maybe his nest was nearby... “Or is he like a detective? I think it’s dumb they lost the vase. I mean, it’s the era of technology, people can’t afford to say that something just went “missing” and there’s no digital evidence anywhere.”

Around Coolsville they are known as the ( THE MOUSE ) because they are ( FAITHFUL ), ( RESILIENT ), and ( LOYAL ), but we all know they can also be ( WITHDRAWN ), ( FEARFUL ), and ( ESCAPIST ). Some people think they look like ( ADELAIDE KANE ) but we all know that’s just a mask.

remi was the product of an affair between her mom (a cashier at a dollar store) and her manager

she was born in a family who was still is dirt poor, living in a trailer park

her mom’s husband is a construction worker who somehow was relatively okay w the affair and bastard baby cuz he got a discount at the dollar store nOT EVEN KIDDING and they already had one daughter (Melissa) who was 15 when remi was born

melissa has always hated remi

melissa’s dad wasn’t a fan of remi either but his rage was easier to avoid cuz he had to work

melissa has made remi’s life a living hell since day one she sucks

remi’s mom was always working her ass off to put some food on the table so remi barely got to see her

remi started being a latchkey kid and fending for herself to avoid melissa’s insanity and she just kinda hung around town and befriended everyone’s pets and caught bugs

which made her fall in love w science and she started reading all the books, turns out she’s p damn smart unless u give her wuthering heights she will use it as hamster bedding

then one day melissa’s dad convinced remi’s mom to run a “quick errand” for a local sketchy dude and surprise surprise they got caught cuz angst-whoring

remi’s mom got five years in a minimum sec prison and her husband got 10 years because it wasn’t his first offense thug lyfe

so ofc remi was placed in her sister’s custody which was both of their worst nightmares but melissa would be getting some money so she shut her stupid mouth

melissa gives exactly zero fucks about remi, she’s in her early 30s and doesnt care if remi’s not home in the middle of the night or if she has food at all, school supplies, hot water, etc. plus she keeps kicking her out when she has people over, there could be a snowstorm outside but remi has to gtfo if melissa wants to get it on w some douche

for remi, it was hell on earth. she knew she was already unpopular in school and around town for being the bastard baby and a weirdo, now she was the weirdo bastard daughter of two convicted felons

so far, remi’s mom has served four months out of her sentence and remi misses her like crazy. she tries to call and visit as much as she can but melissa rarely drives her and buses are expensive so it gives her a hUGE SAD

she tries chasing her sads away by burying herself in academics and getting awesome grades and being a huge nerd who will ramble about animals to anyone that will stop and listen for a sec

and ofc she works at pet store and helps out vets and helps w grooming of pets

remi is 5′1 smol who’s always wearing oversized and worn out hand me downs, wandering around town, trying to find somebody who will not judge her and just wants to talk and be friends. she’s desperate for acceptance and kindness since she doesn’t rly get it at home also food #poorAF

her desire to help others is so strong it gets annoying?? like pLS LET ME HELP YOU WITH BIOLOGY I WILL BE THE BEST TUTOR BE MY FRIEND FOREVER kind of thing
