I am five minutes into season 2 episode 4 but I'm having thoughts loud enough that I need to yell them into the void (under the cut to avoid spoilers but it's not particularly spoiler-y):
Delirium: "You just apologized to me. You never apologize. You just act like you know stuff I don't that makes everything you do okay."
I do not for one second believe that ANY of the Endless ever apologize ever.
You expect me to believe Destiny has ever apologized for anything he's done? DESIRE?? You expect me to believe they don't do fucked up shit and then make excuses for why it's okay? Even if she's "nicer" about it I can't see Death saying sorry for anything. Delirium I don't think YOU'VE ever apologized before.
And I'm not saying that's a good thing, I'm just saying Dream isn't some outlier asshole here, the entire family sucks in their own fun and interesting ways lol

Dream: *unbuttoning shirt* It is quite warm in here, is it not?
Hob, blushing: Why are you unbuttoning my shirt?

And the fact that Taramin is played by Tom's mother makes their scenes so much more adorable 🥹
It is SO sweet and I love it 😭💕💕💕
I do very much want someone to write a fic where Morpheus is sad/stressed/upset/alloftheabove and Taramin lets him put his head in her lap to comfort him 🥺 Morpheus deserves a maternal figure who isn't fucking Night

Death: Absolutely not.
Dream: Do not speak for me.
Desire: Rude.

We have this interesting situation where we basically no longer have privacy nor the expectation of privacy, but we also don't have community or meaningful connection with others, so we're all simultaneously both completely exposed and absolutely alone, and please understand that when I say this situation is "interesting", what I in fact mean is that it's "nightmarish and I wish I could wake up"

In response to fandom problem 9736: I hate how people will be like "JKR sucks (true) which is why you should check out these fantasy authors who have never done anything wrong ever!"
The authors they rec are generally better than JKR, yeah, but I hate this trend of pedestaling people. Just sets you up for disappointment, and often overlooks criticism of the authors in question.
Like, Diana Wynne Jones is another British children's/YA fantasy author author often set up as "better than JKR" and yeah, I would definitely say she is! She was one of my favorite authors growing up and I still like her writing a lot, her books are better written, more creative, funnier, etc than JKR's. Also currently JKR is using her books to fund a hate movement, which DWJ never did while she was alive and certainly couldn't do now.
However that doesn't mean DWJ's books don't have issues! She was a white woman born in 1934, the fact that her books have racism/sexism/fatphobia/etc in them really should not be a surprise to anybody. I'm not trying to "cancel" her or anything (considering she's dead that would be spectacularly useless), I really love her work, it does have issues that shouldn't be ignored.
And this isn't only true for Dianne Wynne Jones either, this is true for a lot of these authors framed as "perfect" in comparison to JKR
I wish we could criticize JKR/recommend other authors while also having nuance and acknowledging that authors we like also have issues in their works.
I also wish we could stop acting like the problems in JKR's body of work came out of nowhere, and there aren't larger patterns of bigotry in fantasy fiction/fiction in general. Some of the bigotry that appear in her book is certainly more blatant, yes (I can't think of any other mainstream fantasy writer of her era who wrote something like the house elves, though I wouldn't be surprised if I'm wrong on that) but a lot of things people paint her as "uniquely bad" for are...unfortunately pretty common issues.
And for context, I'm someone who was criticizing the bigotry in JKR's books even before her first transphobic incident in 2019. this is not me defending her in any way. But I've seen the discussion jump from "hey these books have major issues" to "these books are uniquely bad" and it's not a change I like!
Posting as a response to a previous problem.
