I just got described as an "ad hating commie" by someone because I said a minute of youtube ads is unpleasant. fully spent 5 minutes arguing and defending youtube ads. insane stuff

I get the impression that a lot of the urge for people to get sucked into "misinformation" cults, which is really just non-mainstream echochambers as opposed to mainstream echochambers, is that when you show them that something important they believe, for example governments care about them being in good health and have been telling them how best to do that, is a lie or not true or even just full of omissions somehow they freak out, full blown panic.

I think a lot of this is from the conditioning that is commonly received from childhood that Science™ knows everything, the world is known, there are no more dragons. A little peek into the abyss makes them a little cuckoo, and they have to get back to homeostasis where they know again how that part of the world works.

We don't tell kids "we don't know" enough anymore

sometimes i think about the history of coffee culture in islam and how it spread like it’s so funny

fast forward to pope clement viii finally giving in and tasting it to see what the hype is about and then stating: “This Satan’s drink is so delicious that it would be a pity to let the infidels have exclusive use of it.”

pope clement viii then proceeds to BAPTIZE THE COFFEE BEANS
