“We visited Grouse mountain, and whilst exploring we were all blown away by the scenery and wildlife there. Still with over 10 foot of snow on the ground the sun shone and the temperatures soared highlighting the natural beauty of the area.”

'Monday 22nd May is Victoria day and officially the first day of summer. So where better to visit is the Cloverdale Roedo and Country Fair a two hour journey out of Metro Vancouver. Seeing the physical extremes the riders going through was quite horrifying, their careers are usually over by the age of 30. With names such as Clint, and Clayton we witnessed Bareback, Saddle Bronco and Bull riding; then children no older than 4 or 5 years of age were put on the backs of sheep while their Mom’s and Dad’s filmed them on their phones. Quite a different experience to Country fairs in the UK.”

“'On Our first full day in Vancouver a crew of eleven of us set sail from Steveston dock into the Straits of Georgia, whale watching. Orca and Hump Back whales were spotted along with Bald Eagles, Steller and Harbour Seals. A new found respect for the job of a wildlife photographer was gained when the whales wouldn't pop up and perform exactly where and when we wanted. Images by Emma Gasgoyne, Josh Lyle and Trudie Ballantyne.

“Over my final year I have been exploring aerial photography as a business opportunity, I'm working towards creating a website and business aiming to obtain both video and stills commissions. I would also like to sell my work online in a more creative aspect by photographing abstract landscapes and narrative based stories - known as 'Dronescapes'.”

“For the Visual Narrative module I created The Buttons Of Our Coats. The book tells the story of the tailoring company Huntsman, renowned for its expert craftsmanship, bespoke garments, prestigious clientele and rich heritage. This makes it the most honoured and established tailors based in the the iconic Savile Row, London.”

Student Experience: Portfolio Reviews
In from third year Katie Mordan.
"Last weekend I was in London having won the APHE Bursary. The bursary funded by APHE paid for me to attend Photomeet 2017 and included 8 professional portfolio reviews. Having experienced three professional portfolio reviews at the beginning of April as part of our 3rd year module ‘The Professional Photographer’ I felt fully prepared and confident to take advantage of this great opportunity. My reviews were with the photography directors for Town and Country, Harpers Bazaar, Wired Magazine, the Editor of the online magazine 1000 Words, a founding director of Photocaptionist, a director of Hoxton Mini Press and independent curators. I showed my portfolio and photobook Planted.”
“I received so much positive and constructive feedback on my projects and advice to help me make progress on my future plans, I now feel more secure in the next steps I will take after I graduate. When I think back to three years ago, I would never have believed then that my work could and would be described by professionals with comments such as “I love the little stories you find”, “You have such a coherent theme about your work – it’s all so strong but different” and “Amazing work” and that I would have the confidence in my ideas and images to present them for critical review to some of the best in the business."
