Annotation #9
This next article that I found concentrates on the idea that “At some point, prices either have to continue to increase or advertising and other promotional efforts be implemented to be profitable” (Moore).
Today, a whopping “69% of U.S. households now have a subscription to Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu, according to Leichtman Research Group. [Which] is up from 52 percent in 2015” (Snider). As these numbers continue to rise, more and more subscribers of cable are lost.
“’There’s a lot of sharing going on...we have to keep in mind, these are not ‘either or’ (because) the majority of all households in America (homes) have both (subscription streaming and pay TV) (Snider). From my own knowledge, I didn’t know that the majority of households had both subscriptions to streaming, as well as paying for television. In my personal opinion, I believe that these numbers of subscribers will continue to rise, while the numbers of customers paying for tv will decrease; with TV having to go out of business in the near future.
I’m looking to use this information from the article that I have found, within my research essay, to express statistics. There is more valuable information within this article than the small amount that I have featured in this blog post.

Research Progress Report
For my research essay, I have my thesis written and a few main ideas that I’m hoping to cover throughout my research essay. As I continue to prepare for this due date of the research essay, I’m beginning to write my essay this week so I will keep myself on task.
I struggle with procrastination, so I have set a schedule for how much I’m going to write per week in order to keep me on track. As I had said, beginning this week I’m going write 2-3 pages per week. Throughout this time my draft will be very rough and full of many different ideas thrown together. I’m fine with it being rough and just a big “splat” of ideas because that way I will have all of my ideas written down on paper and will be able to narrow down from there. Having more ideas than necessary is always better than having less and no room to cut down on them.
I have all of my citations done at this point and the summaries within my blogs to help me. I’m looking to do further reading and writing down of information for my essay during the days that I’m writing my research essay in the next few weeks.

Annotation #7
The following article that I am using for this next annotation was written in 2015 and “introduces the New Amazon Fire TV with 4K Ultra HD and Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote”, as the article is titled (ENP Newswire).
I think it is important to do research and gain information to feature in my research essay on these particular merchandises because they are comparable to the very popular companies at this present moment.
This article is opened explaining both the features of the new tv and the remote.  As this Amazon Fire TV was released in 2015, it was said to be “75% more powerful, with best-in-class Wi-Fi, support for Alexa, and 4K Ultra HD-and is still less than $100″ (ENP Newswire). While the “New Fire TV Stick with Voice Remote-simple and easy-to-use voice search and Alexa integration via included remote-all for less than $50″ (ENP Newswire).
The New Fire TV stick has features with “Alexa, the brain behind Echo, is now available on Fire TV devices-ask for music, information, weather, traffic, and more...”(ENP Newswire). This new fire stick also has “over 3,000 channels, apps, and games now available-more than Apple TV, Roku, Chromecast, or any other streaming media player-plus you can now add up to 128 GB of additional storage via microSD to take advantage of this great selection”(ENP Newswire).
Reading this article gave me some valid factual evidence about these two companies that I hadn’t known before. I will be able to use some of this information to show the differences between the different companies that have movies and television shows accessible through a subscription or some form of payment.

Research Progress Report
For my research project, I have been organizing the way that I will be writing my essay. I have planned out when I will be talking about the broad topic of movie streaming websites, as well as when I will branch out and talk about specific ones.
I’m planning to begin my essay by explaining how the way that movies and television shows are watched has changed over the past decade, as well as talking about how they might change in the years to come. After speaking about this topic, I will move to go deeper into some of the popular websites used today to view movies and television shows. I have learned many new things about these popular companies over the course of my research so far and I believe I will continue to do so. As I speak about the different popular companies, I’m thinking that I will explain how they started out and then end with the point that they are in right now.
I’m also going to research more to do my best to find out if there are other companies that are trying to “outdo” the companies that are “booming” at the moment. I believe that I will be able to find at least one company that is doing research to become better than the other movie and television streaming companies at the moment.
My next move in the process of my research essay is to begin putting each of the parts of this essay together and begin writing my essay to give me plenty of time to review it all before the due date.

Annotation #6
This article is about the very well-known website “Hulu”. For individuals that may not know, as the article states, “Hulu is one of the premier video-streaming sites for popular television shows and movies.” The author, Jacob Schmitt, states that this popular source for movies, televisions shows, and even today; now cable, was founded in 2007. The author then goes on to state that this particular network “offers a two-tiered experience: its free version allows users to stream several episodes from the current season of popular shows on their computers, and its subscription service…” As the article continues to go on with this sentence the author continues to explain what devices “Hulu” can be streamed on. For example, Schmitt shares with the readers that “high-definition streams of full seasons (current and previous) that can be played on Hulu-enabled devices such as tablets, smartphones, and gaming consoles.” While this is very impressive as well as extremely convenient, most networks that are known today have these qualities.
This streaming website was founded just twelve years ago and over the past year or two it has just began to really “go through the roof” on its sales; gaining more subscribers to the network.
Reading this article has given me some information that I hadn’t known before. Since I have this information now, it will help me when I’m getting to the point in my essay that I’m describing Hulu. This article will also help me as I describe its differences between the other well known streaming websites as I compare them to each other.

Video Streaming
There are many different interesting points that relate to my research topic, video streaming. One that comes to mind rather than others is just how much this source of entertainment has changed from the ways that I used to watch movies and television shows when I was a kid.
Today, like it has been for at least a century, when you walk into the house of a friend or family member they are watching some type or television show. They may even just have their television on as well. However, some may not have the common cable that used to be so popular when I was growing up. Every house that I went into growing up, whether it was a friend’s, or family member’s, they all had cable. Many people today don’t have the common DISH or DirectTv subscription as before.
There are other companies that have done a pretty great job at overpowering these popular cable companies. Personally, I believe that these cable companies could be completely out of business in the next century. People are beginning to turn to other companies that may have many of the same luxuries as these cable companies. The difference that lies between the two is their price.
I know for a fact that the popular company Hulu has its own television streaming for its subscribers if they decide to pay just a little more. However, this price is nothing compared to the other cable companies.
My main claim, as I had stated before, is that things have really changed from the way that they were from when I was a little kid. None of these other streaming websites were taking over the popular and powerful streaming companies. I had never once thought that they would either.

Annotation #5
The following article that I had found explains “The Pros and Cons of Streaming Platforms”, as the article is titled. The author of this article, Julia Humphrey, begins this article by expressing, “everyone knows about streaming platforms...Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, HBO Go...while each platform has its perks, they also have their downfalls.” (Humphrey). This author is completely right and the numerous names of movie streaming websites that she gave are also the ones that I am focusing on. Humphrey closes the introduction of her article by expressing that as an audience member, this article can be helpful “if you’re trying to decide whether a streaming platform is for you...” (Humphrey).
Throughout the article, she switches back and forth between the “Pros” and the “Cons”.
For the Pros, “you can take your favorite TV show and movies anywhere...” (Humphrey). She believes that these big companies use that following stance to bring customers and future subscribers in to “convince people to sign up” (Humphrey). Humphrey then moves on to explain “I think the access is the main response people love instant streaming. Netflix especially has a great variety of original TV shows and movies, as well as multiple others ranging from hidden gems, classics, and every season of that show people keep telling you to watch.” (Humphrey). This side of her statement is extremely valid, especially from the side of being a Netflix user myself. The last of her pros is the fact that “you don’t need to leave your house, or even your bedroom, to watch something...your favorites literally fit in your pocket for easy access.” (Humphrey). This point is extremely important as well. In the world that we live in today, many people are lazy and looking for the easiest alternative for anything that they are doing at any time.
Next for the Cons, if “the wifi or 4G just isn’t feeling it” it will be unable to access (Humphrey). “Like most things in such an abundantly technological time...if the wifi isn’t working wherever you happen to be, you’ll just have to wait until you’re somewhere it does work.” (Humphrey). This statement is very true and can be a very annoying problem at some points when all you are wanting to do is to watch a good movie on television show.
I’m really looking forward to using the sources and opinions from Humphrey’s article because they will be extremely helpful as I’m constructing my essay. Opinions from others is what I was really hoping to use in my essay and this article has many useful examples of it.

Goals of Research Topic
My research topic is about the websites that stream movies and television shows. Today there are many different companies that have millions of subscribers. Some are even some of the most popular company names that are heard on a daily basis.
Anyways, for my research topic I would like to be able to learn about the different companies that stream these movies and television shows. I’m looking to research how the numbers of subscribers have risen and even fallen as these numerous streaming websites have been produced.
I would also like to be able to be able to discover if there are new companies that are trying to “outdo” movie streaming companies such as Hulu, Netflix, and Amazon Movies. There is no doubt that there is at least one company out there that is trying to rise higher than the popular streaming websites that there are today; just as these popular websites had done before to the past companies movie company’s that were “booming”.
I’m motivated mainly to discover more information that I may not have known before. I’m a huge fan of these movie streaming websites as so are many other people in this generation. I’m also motivated because it is always interesting to learn new ideas, especially about things that you particularly enjoy.

Annotation #4
The following article by Marshall Honorof has a list of the best streaming videos services of 2019. The author begins the article by explaining how things have changed over the course of the years. “The days of having to in live or buy expensive discs in order to watch your favorite shows and movies are gone” (Honorof). This article favors the popular company Netflix which “offers an excellent selection of TV shows, movies and original programming...” (Honorof).
Next, Hulu is introduced and described as a “something a little cheaper...a worthwhile alternative, and a few dollars less expensive — if you’re willing to sit through some commercials, that is” (Honorof).
The author suggests that Apple should “get in on the streaming game later in the year” (Honorof). Personally I agree with that statement and think it would be a very smart decision to add into their company. However, at the same time, Apple has been continuously successful over the years with their business of selling phones, cases, laptops, and even earbuds.
The author of the following article stays focusing on certain articles and discussing them each separately. Each of these nine different video streaming services have pros, cons, and summaries of how useful they can be just beneath a picture of their logo.
I’m looking to use this article and it’s useful information to compare and discuss the differences within each of the streaming services. This article will be extremely useful and critical in my research essay.

Research Topic
Up until this point I wasn’t really sure what I had wanted my research topic to be. I know now that for my research project I’m going to focus more on the popular culture side of things. I’m focusing on the different movie websites that are now available as well as how the movie renting and access to movies has changed over the decades. Over the course of 10 years, everything has changed from purchasing or renting movies in stores or through mail to through websites and applications. While this is extremely convenient, it has put out numbers different businesses as these new ones come in. I’m wanting to talk about that side of things as well, and even research different businesses that were “booming” a decade ago to compare them to the popular movie websites today.
As I talk through my research essay, I’m wanting to focus on Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Movies, and maybe a few others. I will most likely just focus on those three because they are the most popular in today culture. I also am going to explain new updates that have been done since the establishment of these movie websites.
As I had said before, I will branch out to discuss past movie companies that have ran out of business over the past decades. For example, Blockbuster.
I had chose this topic as I was thinking about different companies that are extremely popular today and used on a day-to-day basis. I originally was just going to focus on Netflix, as it is most likely the most popular company right now and has billions of subscribers. I figured I would have plenty to talk about, but as I have been writing my annotations I realized that there wasn’t too much to discuss. Following the writing of annotations, I decided to pick a more broad topic and focus on movie websites that are popular today.

Fandom Research
As a fan, I don’t particularly research my fandoms, but I do stay involved with them and updates rather than researching them. For example, I am a subscriber for many different brands and organizations. The majority of the stores that I am a subscriber for are the brands of clothes that I purchase. These brands that I have subscribed to don’t consist of too many multiple brands. Some brand names that I receive emails from would consist of American Eagle, Nordstrom Rack, TJ Maxx, Fabletics, Etsy, and a few numbers of others. As I receive all of these emails, I receive many deals and these brands keep me in the loop from spending too much money.
I also follow most of these brands on a number of social medias. This helps to keep me aware of all of the deals that might be going on at the time being. This social media profiles also keep me aware of when new clothes are being released.
The main goal of following these brands and being a subscriber is to keep me in the loop about their brands, as well as new things that they might be doing. My favorite thing about keeping myself involved with clothing brands is that I get the best deals and save the most money this way by staying involved.

Netflix (Annotation #2)
In the world that we live in today, “the phrase “watching Netflix” is now as ubiquitous as “watching TV” had been in decades past.” As the following quote states, the production of Netflix has made a As written in the prior annotation blog, the popular company known as Netflix “didn’t conquer the world straight out of the gate...the company traces its history back to 1997, when it began as an online DVD rental service.”
According to the article written by Aaron Parson, there are some basics of the application that are needed to know if you are an individual looking into purchasing a subscription. Like most centennials know, “devices such as computers, smart TVs and blu-ray players, tablets, smartphones and video game consoles support the app.” Since Netflix is able to be accessed on each of these devices, it makes it extremely convenient in many ways; making this network so extremely popular. For example, subscribers are able to access their favorite television shows and movies on the go, at home on their televisions, as well as while at school or work if they are on their computers.
Accessing your Netflix account isn’t any different than accessing any other profile or subscription. You simply have to login with a certain username (email) and password. From my personal experience, there are different Netflix options available. The customers are able to purchase smaller and larger packages, which allow the subscribers to be logged in on a certain amount of devices. Once the capacity of devices logged into that account has been reached, the least active devices will begin to be kicked off and logged out of that certain Netflix account.
I plan to use the following information from this article to add depth to my final project about Netflix. With the use of this particle article, I will be able to make my research paper full of helpful details concerning Netflix and what it may be like to be a subscriber of the popular network.

Marvel Fandom
If I were to describe my involvement in the marvel fandom, I would begin by explaining that I have been a fan of marvel for the past five years. As I had expressed in an earlier blog, I began my love for Iron Man, as well as Marvel fans as a whole when I was in 8th grade. Since then I have been involved within the Marvel fandoms. Even though I’m not an excessive fan like other individuals might be. I’m always staying up to date on what dates the new Marvel movies will be coming out. The latest Marvel movie, “Infinity War”, came out in late April of 2018. I made my way into the movie theatre a few days after it was released and have been that same way for the past few years.
I do not feel pressured to perfect fandom in a particular way. At this age, since I’m in college, I don’t have much time to take time to be a part of fandoms in an extreme way. While I’m unable to do this, at the same time, I don’t have a desire to be a crazy fan over a movie series. Personally, I view that as silly and immature. At this point in my life it is important to stay on track and focus on my studies. Later on in my life I won’t be “hardcore” about any fandom to the point that I dress up as an individual or group, unless it is Halloween, or for other reasons. There are more things in my life that I have a strong desire to put more effort into, such as my relationship with God, my significant other, family, and friends. I also look forward to putting effort into the career that I end up obtaining in just a few short years. I’m not too strong about fandom, especially for movies. I’m more into having a fandom for music artists.
To finish off this question, I live my life in such a way that there is no pressure on what others may think about me, especially how I portray my fandom as this question is asking. There are far more important things in my life than a fandom in a movie or company, which are both material things.

Netflix (Annotation #1)
I’m looking on to write my research essay about Netflix, the fandom and how far this extremely popular network has come since it’s production.
Within the article that I read, the writer, Linda Martindale, was discussing Netflix and how far it had come since it was founded in 1997. However, this article was written in 2013, many things relating to this network, it's functions, and it's numbers of subscribers have changed drastically in the past 5 years.
Some may not know, but Netflix originally began and “delivered DVDs by mail and streamed movies and television shows to homes over the internet”. From my common knowledge, the popular Netflix network that is known of today doesn’t have any part in the sending and receiving of DVDs by mail. However, like most individuals living in today’s day and age may know, this network is popular for its streaming of television shows and movies. Most of the people that I know personally have a Netflix account, whether it is paid for by their parents or they pay for it themselves; it is rare for any of my friends not to have a Netflix account.
Throughout other parts of the following article, the author begins to explain special qualities that this network has and the ways that it works. She goes into full detail explaining the positives of this company so the reader may understand more if they have no prior knowledge before reading this article.
This article will help me to explain how Netflix first was introduced to the world, and how the numbers have increased drastically over the short 5 years since this article has been written. This also puts in perspective how a company doesn’t always start out strong, but over time it is able to reach its peak.

MARVEL
For this project, my group and I are focusing on the popular group that goes by the cover name,“Marvel”, but going more into depth of the fans that are constantly following Iron Man, or Tony Stark, throughout each movie that is released. We chose to narrow down and focus on only one of the many superheros so that we were able to go into depth on this one superhero.
Personally, I have been a fan of Robert Downey Jr., the celebrity face of Iron Man, for the past six years. It all started when the movie, “Iron Man 3″ was released in early 2013 and I went and saw it. I had never seen any of the Iron Man movies, and I had no idea who Robert Downey Jr. was as well. However, since then, I have been an extreme fan of Robert Downey Jr., along with Iron Man. I have followed along extremely close to Iron Man as the new movies that feature him have been produced over the past six years.
I follow Robert Downey on both his instagram and twitter. I follow up with him and I also follow some other Iron Man accounts. I’m not such a fan that I go to the point to call myself a “Tony”, but that doesn’t mea that I’m not a big fan of both Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr.

Fandoms
I’m a fandom of many different movies and television series’ that are conveniently on Netflix, as well as many stores, and even workouts.
Some of my absolute favorite movies begin with any of the “Avenger’s” movies, as well as all three of the “Iron Man” movies. I love romantic movies, as well as sappy and emotional ones that really hit you deep in your soul. I really enjoy the films that you are able to relate to in some way, or ones where the director allows the story to hit the audience deep, with them leaving feeling a little emotionally down. I also love, love, love, thrillers; starting with any scary movies that really get you out of your seat and feeling scared to walk around your house when it’s dark at night.
I absolutely love the popular hit television series that is currently streaming called “Riverdale,” as well as the other very popular television show, “Stranger Things.” These two are very exciting and thrilling, keeping you on the edge of your seat and anxious for the next episode to be playing.
I have a love for the two stores Nordstrom Rack and American Eagle. American Eagle is one of the most popular stores that teens and even tweens use and shop at today. Nordstrom is the main one that people may purchase their apparel from, but this store is known for having extremely high prices. if you are willing to look for good brands at a discounted price, you can find me there as well. (I’m always willing to dig for that discount and sale at any place that I shop. You will rarely see me pay full price for any clothes I purchase ever.
I love to workout and as I’m in college now I have to make to sure stay up on the food that I eat. I also have to make sure that I stay active since I no longer have the sports that I was a part of in high school, as well as my coaches to do that for me.
