P I K E :
Pike followed the linguist, making sure to press the code to lock the door once they were both inside.
At first he kept his expression unreadable. Joy and frustration battled within him, making his words come out a lot harsher than he meant them, not to mention selfish. “Dammit Nyota! I send a team on an away mission and you just up and disappear! Don’t you care how that affects me? How much I worry as your captain and…” he stopped himself. What was he to her? What did she define it as? He left that part unsaid.
Until they were face to face, Uhura had struggled to read him. She normally was quite good at reading people, but he was a challenge -- for [ [ o n c e ] ]. Uhura’s eyes studied his eyes, his lips, his jawline.. Everything and ANYTHING she could in hopes of understanding how he was acting and why. She’d been back for about two weeks, in total, but those were recovery. Now, she stood before him trembling, [ [ e m p t y] ], and hoping he would forgive her.
Then the words began. They were harsh, they were HONEST they were.. only a fraction of what she had expected to hear upon her full return. “ Chris, I didn’t mean to disappear. It was a blur. One moment, i was there and the next.. ” She paused, blinking away the memories before she was looking down at the ground.
“.. I wasn’t in control. ” His words were loud, her’s were soft. She didn’t know how to go about the situation. How does one go about going missing for months only to eventually return. “ If I could have come back sooner, I would have but I couldn’t. I do not control how long people are held captive for, or how long they’re missing.” One step forward, though it felt like ten steps back, “ I-I... I would have come back sooner if I could...”

P I K E :
The hopeful look in Uhura’s dark eyes made him want to react. To scoop her protectively into his arms and tell her everything he was feeling. The latter surprised even Pike himself as he was always guarded, even with those he called his friends.
Rather than act upon his impulse, he began to speak, then closed his mouth again. No one knew what had happened between them and, considering the fact he had been her captain, he didn’t want anyone to discredit the brilliant linguist.
“Something that would be better said in here,” he gestured with his hand toward the door to his office.
His gesture was all it took. With a nod of her head as a response, she was quick to make her toward his office and away from -- for lack of a better word -- crowd of people. If they were to talk how they normally would, they would need to avoid the eyes of the others and be alone. With a [ [ l o n e ] ] manicured hand Nyota pushed the button to the entrance of his office and stepped inside.
Memories and hidden meanings. That office served as a place of good and bad for many people aboard this ship, but for Uhura it only served as S A N C T U A R Y. It served as her place of recovery.
It served as her H O M E.
Once inside, Nyota took three strides from the door then turned to face him like she had moments ago. Soft brown hues fixed on his sky blue ones.
“ You wished to speak to me, Sir? ”

He looked at her in that way that she knew was meant ONLY for her. It was strong, with the hint of a smile that warmed her from the inside out. Uhura stood there, almost nervous, as she thought about her next move. Could she hug him? Would people deem that appropriate? Did he want to hug her? All good questions that she’d let [ [ h i m ] ] answer. Her hands remained folded behind her back while her fingertips fiddled with the scarlet fabric of her uniform.
“What would you describe it as then, Sir?”
