No puedo.
No, no solo ibas a irte.
â No suelo tomar cafĂ©.
Te habrĂa invitado a salir antes.
â Eh⊠Voy a⊠Voy a ducharme.
â No hace falta.

You make me so high... One shot
â No me dejes T/N...
Dijo T/N y Jeongin apenado suspiro.
â Lo sĂ©, y no merezco tu perdĂłn.
â Te entiendo completamente pero he mejorado, puedo amarte T/N.

downstairs neighbor
danielle marsh x fem!reader ; fluff
synopsis: in which you party so often that you get another complaint, but this time it's from a very pretty girl that really has you considering shutting the whole function down.
warnings: alcohol and weed mentioned ; readers an asshole at first but danielle is danielle so reader goes through a whole crisis ; yeah they're adorable, basically black cat and golden retriever trope sorry not sorry ; anything else i didn't mention ; not proofread

danielle has settled in quite alright into her new university. she's moved in with one of her close friends from high school, decorated her side of the room, and all of her professors are oddly sweet--much better than the professors from her old school.
she makes it to the first friday of the semester, deciding to settle in and watch a movie, maybe call her mom and dad later if she doesn't doze off. but when she hears muffled music and disturbing footsteps from downstairs, she pauses the show she's two minutes into and gets out of her bed.
hanni's on the other side of the room completely slumped, her headphones peeking out from the blanket sprawled on top of her with no care in the world as to what is happening downstairs. danielle purses her lips before getting out of bed and slipping the university sweatshirts over her tank top.
she looks back over at hanni, whoâs still sleeping, before heading out into the living room area, past the kitchen, and out the door.
when she reaches the floor below, she follows the noise, it gets louder as she steps through the corridors, and then she stops in front of what she suspects is the source of all this disruption before knocking on the doorâno response.
âhm.â she mumbles, knocking again in a little patternâstill no response.
before she can knock again, her fist in the air ready to hammer a little harder on the door, it opens.
a girlâprobably her ageâanswers it, eyes narrowed at danielle. sheâs slightly taller, but still, danielle feels a little small with how scrutinizing she checks her out.Â
âdid kazuha invite you? yujin? or was it jungwon?â the girl looks at her with raised brows, expecting an answer with a slightly bothered look. it seems like danielle had interrupted their little⊠event? whatever event it was, did they really need to have house music being blasted so loudly?
danielle rubs her thumb against her pointer finger, trying to steady her nerves. âoh, no, i um⊠wasnât invited,â she says, her voice wavering slightly. the words sound even more pathetic out loud than they did in her head, but thereâs no taking them back now. she pushes on, though it feels like her confidence is slipping away with every syllable. âi was just wondering ifâwell, if you could turn the music down? my roommate is sleeping and itâs just⊠really disturbing.â
the girl in front of her snickers, a look of disbelief crossing her face as she sizes danielle up. itâs clear she finds the request ridiculous, and danielle feels her cheeks heat up in embarrassment.
âyou know what, this isnât even my partyâhey y/n! come out here!â the girl calls over her shoulder, her tone dismissive as she waves danielle off like sheâs someone elseâs problem now.
you hear your name being called, and with a sigh, you push yourself up from the couch. the group you were sitting with whines in protest as you leave, but you roll your eyesâtheyâre all drunk, their complaints nothing more than the amplified nonsense of intoxicated minds.
âwhat is it, yunjin?â you call out, rubbing your eyes as you approach the entrance, the taste of the cheap beer sakura handed you earlier lingering unpleasantly on your tongue. âwhatââ
the words die in your throat as you spot the girl standing just inside the doorway. sheâs probably, no, definitely new hereânew to the party, new to the scene. youâve never seen someone that makes you stop in your tracks like this. her long eyelashes flutter as she looks up at you, her big brown eyes sparkling with a mix of nervousness and something else you canât quite place. sheâs dressed in baggy sweats and an oversized university sweater, the logo stretched across her chest in signature block letters. thereâs an air of innocence about her, something that feels out of place amidst the environment both of you are in right now.
you take her in, noting how pretty she isâadorable, if youâre going to be honest with yourself. she looks like a lost puppy, especially with those pleading eyes and the subtle bite of her lipâ
you push the thought aside, telling yourself it doesnât matter. youâre just here to deal with whatever minor inconvenience yunjin has decided to dump on you.
âwho are you?â
âum, my name is danielle, i live right above.â she has an accent, something strong and similar to that girl yunjinâs been bickering with â was it lily? no, bangchan? hell no, she hates him and his little group. ah, hanni that short girl that came complaining during your second party of freshman year, yunjin still brings her up.Â
âright, what do you want?â you ask, sensing yunjinâs departure when you feel her brush against your shoulder. âis there a problem or?â
âwell, yeah, kind ofâŠâ sheâs actually adorable, especially when she avoids your eye contact like that. âitâs kind of loud, you know. i was wondering if you could turn down the volume a bit? thereâs a lot of thumping i can hear from above, i canât imagine how it must be for the downstairs neighborsâŠâ
âyou must be new.â
âsorry?â
âyouâll get used to it.â you say simply, poking the inside of your cheek before starting to close the door. âi recommend a pair of some good noise cancelling headphonesâand a signature study spot. see you around danielle.â
you feel a strange pang of guilt, something unfamiliar and uncomfortable twisting in your chest. youâve done this beforeâbrushed off peopleâs complaints, shut the door on them without a second thought. but thereâs something about her that makes you hesitate, something that tugs at you. maybe itâs the way she looked at you, those big brown eyes wide with a mix of hope and desperation, like she was really counting on you to help. you give her one more glance, catching that puppy-dog expression that makes your resolve waver for just a second. but then, before you can think twice, you close the door on her, shutting out the sight of her pleading face.
â
danielle spends the whole night tossing and turning, the faint vibration of the music seeping through the ground and into her restless mind. itâs not loud enough to keep her fully awake, but just persistent enough to keep her from finding any real rest. she considers going back downstairs, maybe trying to have a proper conversation, coming to some kind of compromise. but every time she thinks about it, the memory of how things endedâthe snickers, the dismissive attitudeâfills her with embarrassment, making her shrink back into her bed.
the next morning, sheâs awake before the sun, the lingering fatigue making her body feel heavy and sluggish. still, she forces herself out of bed, the need to talk to someoneâanyoneâpushing her into action. with a deep breath, she reaches over and starts shaking hanni awake, the clock not even close to ten a.m. on a weekend. hanni groans in protest, burrowing deeper into the blankets, but danielle is relentless, her fingers poking at hanniâs sides until her sleepy roommate finally stirs, blinking up at her with bleary eyes.
âwhat the hell man? the sun is still rising!â
âwhat do you know about the downstairs neighbor?â
âw-what?â hanni mumbles, rubbing her eyes as she turns to lay on her back and squint at her roommate. ây/n? is this about her?â
âthe girl directly below usâtaller, mean, arrogant, tattoo on her arm and wrist, kind of pretty, nice lips, and jawline⊠ugh! her!â
âthatâs y/n, but youâre reaching with the whole kind of pretty part. petty? yeah, more accurate.â
âlast night i went down and asked her toââ
âyou went to her place? to do what, complain?âÂ
âyes!â hanni shuts her eyes and sinks her head deeper into the pillow, sighing softly again. her roommate is new, she canât be harsh, and plus, itâs danielle.Â
âdani⊠the ra is literally in love with her, and y/n uses that so she can party and get high in her fuckass living room.â
âwhat?â
âdanielle, mo dani, please listen.â hanni sits up, blinking hard as she reaches out ot put a hand on her friends shoulder. âyouâll get used to it, you can use my old headphones and iâll show you my favorite cafe.â
âyouâre just going to let this slide?â
âwell until y/n stops flirting with jiyoung; thereâs nothing we can really do other than cope every fridayâand sometimes saturdayânight.â hanni explains, flopping onto the bed and returning to fetal position. âcan you put the blanket over me, please? iâm tired and cold⊠please.â
danielle frowns before covering her roommates body with her weighted blanket, sighing before she returns to her bed, laying down and recollecting all her memories from the night beforeâof you.
â
youâre late. of course youâre late on the second week of classes, as if last weeks twenty minute surprise appearance wasnât humbling enough.Â
as you rush out of your apartment, youâre met with jiyoung standing right by the exit, as if sheâs been waiting for youâshe probably has. this has happened at least once a week last year. she greets you with her signature smile and a small piece of chocolate, a gesture that would be sweet if you werenât in such a hurry. you force a smile and mumble a quick thanks, but you know whatâs coming next. the compliments, the small talk, the forced out, clichĂ© lines she always uses. itâs all part of her routine, but you really donât have the time for it today. you need to get to class.
fifteen minutes later, youâre finally free from jiyoungâs conversation, but youâre also running dangerously late. again. you sprint across campus, your heart pounding in your chest as you mentally prepare for the inevitable stares and the professorâs disapproving remarks.
when you finally reach the classroom, you throw the door open a little too forcefully. the room falls silent as heads turn to face you, the sudden interruption catching everyoneâs attention. you freeze for a second, cringing at yourself when youâre caught in the spotlight, before the professorâs voice cuts through the silence.
âlate on the second week? what was it, kim⊠no, yangâŠâ he trails off, squinting at you as if trying to remember your name.
you clear your throat, feeling your face heat up. âl/n, l/n y/n,â you correct him, trying to keep your voice steady.
âwell, youâre lucky iâve just started the lecture. please hurry and take a seat, youâve already made quite the impression.â
âsorry, sir,â you mumble, pinching the bridge of your nose in frustration as you scan the room for an empty seat. most of the rows are full, and the weight of all those eyes on you makes your skin prickle with discomfort.
finally, you spot an open seat in the fourth row from the top, right at the edge. you hurry over and drop your bag beside the chair, quickly unzipping it to pull out your laptop. your hands move with practiced speed, signing in and opening a page for notes before setting your bag on the empty seat next to you. you look up, hoping to catch up on what youâve missed so far.Â
and thatâs when you see her.
danielle. sheâs sitting just two seats away from you, her gaze locked on yours the moment you look up. her big brown eyes, framed by those impossibly long lashes, are full of recognitionâand something else you canât quite place, and why are they sparkling? your jaw tenses as you force yourself to look away, zipping up your bag with a little more force than necessary. three seats. thatâs all that separates you from the girl who showed up at your doorstep last friday, the one you dismissed without a second thought. and now here she is, sitting way too close for comfort, her presence making the air around you feel heavier.
of course you blindly chose the spot next to her. the new girl who filed a complaint, only to have the door shut on her. itâs just your luck.
you catch her in your peripheral staring at you for a few more seconds before she redirects her attention towards the professor. you let out a breath of relief, now you just have to get through the next hour and fifty minutes near the cute girl you were an ass to.
â
as soon as the class ends, youâre out the door without sparing a glance at danielle. she watches you hurry out, noticing how you started packing up your things five minutes before class was even dismissed. itâs like you couldnât wait to get away.
you make your way to the engineering building, where you know your roommate yunjinâs class ended a bit earlier. when you spot her in the lobby, you walk up with a bothered look on your face.
âgood morningâŠ?â yunjin greets you, her smirk showing sheâs amused by your expression.
âyou wonât believe whoâs in my sociology class,â you say, still reeling from the encounter.
âeveryone takes sociology, even the finance freaks,â she replies, shrugging as if itâs not a big deal.
ânevermind.â you roll your eyes, scoffing. âwhatever, letâs grab a bite. iâm hungry.â
âyou always are,â yunjin chuckles, stepping beside you.
the two of you end up at your favorite local thai place, sharing a large bowl of fried rice. itâs a familiar routineâsince freshman year, youâve known one bowl is more than enough to satisfy both of you. the memory of that first time, half-drunk and thinking the portions would be small, makes you smile despite your lingering annoyance.
as you chew on your second bite, glancing at a notification on your phone, yunjinâs voice cuts through your thoughts. âso, whoâs in your sociology class?â
âdanielle,â you reply, not looking up from your phone.
âwho?â
âthe girl from friday.â
yunjin frowns, trying to recall. âat our party? there wasnât anyone i didnât knowââ
âno, no. the girl you made me deal with. she knocked on the doorâbig eyes, long lashes.â
âoh, her,â yunjin hums, finally understanding. âwhat about her?â
âi closed the door on her that night after she complained or whatever. i didnât think much of it, but then i was late to class because jiyoung wanted to talk to me, and i picked a random spot⊠turns out it was three fucking seats away from herâdanielle.â
yunjin laughs, thankfully before she can take another bite of rice. âseriously?â
âshut up.â
âthatâs hilarious. you think sheâs going to give you shit?â
âi mean,â you poke at your rice, hesitating, âshe doesnât seem like she willâŠâ
but even as you say it, the thought nags at you. danielle doesnât seem like the type to hold a grudgeâpolite and sweet even when you were being arrogantâalmost too good to be true. she looks like she belongs in a fairy tale, with her princess-like appearance and demeanor. meanwhile, you feel like the ugly villain in her story, lurking under the bridge, ready to cast a spell or something like that. the more you think about it, the more ridiculous it seems.
âthen youâll be fine, you were fine shutting the door on her anyway.â
you were fine, but that version of you was under the influence of cheap beer and too focused on going back to your conversation than dealing with someoneâs complaintâeven if it were from danielle.
âi guess.â
â
the next time you host a party, the volumeâs turned down by two notches. you tell yourself itâs because yunjinâs been saying âhuh?â to you more often, but deep down, you know thatâs not the real reason.
youâve also decided to stick with one can of beer instead of three. even yujin seemed surprised when you declined the second.Â
these parties used to be at jakeâs place, but he argued they should be at yours since the ra is madly in love with you, and your place is slightly bigger. you were against it at first, but socializing never hurt, and it made you happy to see others happy. youâd also be lying if you said you didnât enjoy the occasional expensive drink that someone brought when their paycheck had been a bit fatter that week.
now, youâre leaning against the counter while minji rummages through a cupboard, searching for spare plastic cups. you take a sip from your spriteâthe second can of the night, and surprisingly, neither has been alcoholic (you donât count the bitter can of beer, itâs only five percent alcohol). yunjinâs voice cuts through the music just loud enough for you to hear, âyou think that girl will show up again? give you shit?â
âiâd hope not.â you pretend itâs a truthful statement, your tone firm, a little snarky, and a bit confident, but thereâs a small part of you that hopes she does. you catch yourself imagining her showing up in her oversized sleepwear again, her eyes wide, her voice so soft and sweet it makes your chest tighten a little.Â
âand if she does?â
âiâll shut her out again.â
âand if you show up late, then sit three seats away from her again?â
âignorance.â you sip on your sprite again, licking your lips to savor something that actually satisfies your tastebuds.Â
âyouâre good at that.â
âaw, thanks.â you say bitterly, hearing yunjin snicker as she tears open a new pack of red plastic cups. âasshat.â
your orange-haired roommate leans against the counter across from you, then says, âi think jungwon brought penjamin.â his infamous pen, the one you took way too many hits of last time that it had you seeing the stars.Â
ânot again, i donât trust myself.â
she laughs at you again, âi donât trust you either, letâs stick with a hit or two instead of five.â
âand you need to stick with a few drinks instead of passing out on the floor again. youâre lucky you were leaning against the couch.â
âwomp womp.â you canât believe her, what an idiot.
âsay that again when you wake up with your legs in the fucking blinds, or something. i still donât know how you donât have liver damage, and doesnât that affect your performance on the court?â
âconditioned to drink and score threeâs.â
âwhatever.â you sigh, then hear a few knocks from the door.
yunjin raises her brows, then chuckles, âhey, itâs your lovergirl.â
âsheâs not myâ ugh. be right back.âÂ
lovergirl, yunjin is going to wake up upside down in her closet if she keeps it up. thereâs no chance that sheâs attracted to you in the slightest, not with your first impressions. the thought makes you a little dissapointed, but you shake your head, youâre being ridiculous again.Â
you shake the thought away, forcing yourself to focus getting to your door and not tripping on the shoe that had been blindlessly kicked off. thereâs a quiet anticipation simmering beneath your calm exterior as the music gets more faint in your ears. you tell yourself youâre being stupid, but the truth is harder to ignoreâthereâs a part of you that wants her to be at the door, even if itâs just to scold you again.
you open the door, and there she isâmiss lovergirl herself.
âanother party?â she asks, her tone light, almost teasing.
âare you going to tell me to shut the whole thing down? still haven't invested in headphones, have you?â
âactually, i wasnât going toâthe shutting down part, i have headphones being delivered tomorrow.â she replies, smiling. maybe your brows furrow, just a little. âbut the music is a little quieter, that i noticed, so maybe my efforts did pay off.â she pauses, then adds, âanyway, my roommate told me thereâs no getting through to you about these parties. so, i came here to give you this.âÂ
she holds out a keychain with a cardholder attached, and you see a picture insideâa photo of you and your little brother at your high school graduation. heâs about twelve in the picture, braces on and cheeks still chubby. itâs one of your favorite photos, and your eyes widen as you take it from her slowly, almost carefully.
âwhereâd you get this?â you ask, voice a bit more cautious than you intended.
âyou dropped it under your seat last lecture. seemed like you were in such a rush to leave, or to avoid meâŠ?â she tilts her head, batting those impossibly long lashes.
you realize sheâs not in her sleepwear this time. sheâs dressed in everyday clothesâa zip-up over a fitted white shirt, jeans, and some well-worn sneakers. a nike cap sits snugly on her head, her long, wavy hair flowing down in a way that makes you look twice. sheâs wearing light makeup, and it strikes you for the first time how nice her lips are, andâ
âum, thanks,â you mutter.
âitâs no problem.â
âare you going to ask me to turn the volume down now?âÂ
she shakes her head, adjusting the backpack slipping down her shoulder. âno, but i'd appreciate it. youâve already made baby steps.â
if it had been anyone else saying that, youâd have rolled your eyes, maybe even scoffed in their face. but thereâs something about the way danielle says itâso genuinely, so kindlyâthat catches you off guard. youâre used to sharp words and snide remarks, not this⊠breath of fresh air, this three a.m. glass of water in the form of a person.
âright, okay,â you manage to say.
âwell, i'll get going then. my roommateâs friend is coming over to watch a movie with us, so weâd appreciate it if you could maybe turn it down. but, thatâs up to you, mate.âÂ
âoh, okay, yeah.â you feel like youâre melting into a puddle. what is going on with you? âiâll see what i can do.â
ânight then.â
ânight?â
she walks off, your eyes follow her until she reacehs the end of the hall. it was the most casual encounter youâve ever had in a bit, and yet, it felt like so much more.Â
â
haerin sits back, watching without a word as hanni and minji bicker over the remote, their voices rising slightly above the hum of the tv. hanni has her arms crossed tightly over her chest, a scowl forming when minji suggests yet another sappy romance. haerin half expects them to start wrestling for control, but just before the tension hits a breaking point, the sound of the door lock twisting stops them. both heads turn to see danielle stepping inside, her hand raised in a small wave, a polite smile on her lips.
âsorry iâm late,â danielle apologizes.
âyouâre good,â hanni replies, running her fingers through her hair to fix it. âmovie time? can you choose, pleaseâŠâ
âyeah! let me get changed first, okay?â
âokay, okay, but hurry or else minjiâs gonna have my limbs cut off or something. and we both know haerin would rather watch than save either of us.â hanni jokes, drawing a chuckle from haerin and a playful glare from minji.Â
a few minutes later, danielle is back in an old t-shirt and plaid pajama pants. she drops herself right between hanni and minji, effectively acting as a buffer. she grabs the remote, settling under the blanket as her legs casually stretch across hanni's lap.
âwhere were you, by the way?â hanni asks, feeling danielleâs legs settle more comfortably over her own. âif the bus was late, you couldâve called.â
âmy bus came early. i just stopped by y/nâs,â danielle replies casually.
minjiâs head snaps toward danielle so fast itâs a wonder she doesnât get whiplash. haerin even lets out a small gasp of âwhat?â
ây/n? you mean l/n y/n?â minji echoes, her tone filled with disbelief. âyou went to her place?â
danielle nods. âshe dropped something in the class we have together, so i returned it.â
âand she didnât bite your head off?â minji asks, eyes wide. âyouâre really something, danielle.â
danielle just laughs softly, her fingers scrolling through the endless netflix catalog in search of a movie they all might actually agree on. she seems unfazed by the shock that mentioning your name has caused, a slight smile playing on her lips. she canât quite understand the big deal. youâve been⊠normal, for the most partâpretty normal, actually, in the three times sheâs spoken to you.
âsheâs really not that bad,â danielle shrugs, finally stopping on a rom-com that catches her eye. âi can fix her.â
âyou can what?â hanni swivels her head toward danielle, eyes wide in disbelief.
âwhat?â danielle grins. âshe doesnât bite.â
âwell, her friend yunjin does,â hanni mutters, thinking back to the group project from hell with yunjin, whoâd spent every meeting hungover and useless. âsheâs probably just like the people she hangs out with.â
âno, i bet sheâs nicer deep down.â
âyouâre too pure for this world,â minji murmurs, feeling danielleâs head lean on her shoulder. âsheâs got a bad reputation, you know.â
âwell, she turned the volume down for us,â danielle insists.
âshe did?â hanni raises an eyebrow, surprised.
âyeah, just before i visited her. i told her weâd be having a movie night and said iâd appreciate it if she toned it down a bit. now we can barely feel the bass.â
hanni thinks for a moment. maybe the music is a bit quieter, but sheâs gotten so used to it, she barely notices the difference. minji and haerin, on the other hand, don't deal with the noise oftenâhaerin lives with her parents, and minjiâs dorm is on the other wing.
danielle presses play, and the conversation shifts. they all settle in, pushing the topic of you, the downstairs neighbor, out of their minds as they focus on the opening scenes of the movie.
hanni leans into haerin, a smile on her lips as her legs tangle with danielleâs. âyouâre so interesting, man,â she mutters, half-amused, half-bewildered.
â
there aren't any assigned seatsâit's university, for crying out loud. still, you find yourself three seats away from danielle again, like last time, pretending not to notice her as you settle in, determined not to drop anything today. you set your things down carefully, opening up your laptop and pulling out your ipad, keeping your eyes firmly on the screen.
out of the corner of her eye, danielle watches you fumble with the apple pen, spinning it between your ring and middle finger. she sees it slip from your grip and clatter to the floor beside you. you let out a soft sigh, standing to retrieve it, making your way down two rows. when you straighten up and head back, you catch danielle trying to hide a smile, her shoulders shaking with quiet laughter.
âwhatâs so funny?â you ask, a little defensive.
âyour pen-spinning skills,â danielle says, turning fully toward you with that same amused smile. âslippery fingers?â
âshouldnât you be reviewing before the lecture?â
âi usually get here fifteen minutes early,â she replies, still grinning. âiâve already done that.â
âwhatever.â you drop back into your seat, tapping away at your keyboard as the professor approaches the front, fiddling with the hdmi cable. you open your notes app, trying to ignore the way danielleâs laughter still lingers in the air.
âyou know i donât bite, right?â her voice breaks your focus.
âwhat?â
she nods at the empty seats between you. âyouâre sitting pretty far⊠come sit next to me.â
âiâm not getting up. my stuffâs already out.â
danielle rolls her eyes, moving the desk platform in front of her as she stands, gathering her things without a second thought, and before you know it, sheâs dropping into the seat beside you. you werenât expecting thatâher choosing to sit next to you so boldly. but there she is, right next to you, with that grin stretching across her face as she adjusts her notebook.
âthere, lazy bum,â she teases, her tone light, eyes flicking back to the professor as he sets up the projection.
you find yourself staring, caught off guard by how close she is. she smells sweetâlike cherries, with a mix of amber and jasmine. you quickly shift your gaze back to your laptop, opening your calendar and planner and, almost instinctively, the tab with the jacket youâve been eyeing for weeks.
when you steal another glance at danielle, sheâs put on a pair of glasses. stupid, adorable glasses that make her look even cuterâsomething you didnât think was possible.Â
you canât help the small grin that creeps onto your face as you focus back on the slides on the big screen, but your mind is still partially with her, sitting beside you, close enough to feel the warmth radiating off her skin.
â
for the next month, sociology becomes your favorite classânot because of the subject, but because it means you get almost two hours near danielle. sheâs just as sweet as she looks, always greeting you with a warm smile and tossing out casual small talk that somehow feels more personal every time. she compliments you now and then, little things like âyour hair looks nice todayâ or âi like your shoes,â which leaves you more flustered than youâd care to admit. soon enough, it's routineâyou both leave class together, walking side by side until you reach the main lobby of the science building. danielle always waves goodbye with that bright smile, her eyes sparkling, even when the sky is overcast. you smile back, feeling a little bashful, but somehow, it feels right.
sometimes, you even meet up at the entrance of your little dorm complex to head to class together. danielle's just a floor above, so you run into her in the elevator sometimes too. thereâs something about herâsomething so effortlessly charming and magnetic. itâs like sheâs a light, and youâre a moth, drawn into her presence without even realizing it.
what you donât realize is that jiyoung, your ra, has noticed these little interactions. she catches glimpses now and then, her curiosity piqued.
after another class ends, you wave goodbye to danielle, planning to meet up with yunjin, but before you can leave, jiyoung intercepts you.Â
"hey, didnât see you this morning,â she says, her tone casual but her eyes narrowing slightly. âi havenât been seeing you around as much, actually."
"oh, yeah⊠iâve beenâŠâ you start, your gaze flicking past her to danielle, whoâs almost out of the building. jiyoung looks in the same direction to see danielle as well, her brows furrow just a bit. you continue, âum, spending more time with this girl in my sociology class."
"right, danielle? sheâs on the floor above you, right?â
âyeahâŠâ
âhm,â jiyoung murmurs, more to herself than to you. âyouâve been spending a lot of time with her, havenât you?â
âi mean, yeah. sheâs nice andâwhy does it matter?â
âyouâre not into her, are you?â
the question catches you off guard, like a punch you didnât see coming. you stare at jiyoung like sheâs lost her mind. âw-what? n-no, no, sheâs justâ you know, weâre friends. weâre friendly.â
ânothing more, right?â
âi mean, no, but even if it were⊠why does it matter to you?â
jiyoungâs gaze drops to the floor, and she mumbles, âi donât know? i mean, you said you didnât even want to date.â
you pinch the bridge of your nose, exhaling in frustration. âlook, iâve got to meet up with yunjin. iâll see you around, okay?â
you turn to leave, but jiyoungâs soft scoff stops you in your tracks. she hesitates for a moment before speaking again.
âby the way,â she says, her tone light but pointed. you turn your head slightly, just enough for her to see the edge of your expression. âyou canât party this weekend. thereâs been an increase in complaints.â
you pivot to face her fully, opening your mouth to argue but then closing it again. you bite the inside of your lip, letting the frustration simmer before you finally nod, muttering a resigned, âfine.â
jiyoung watches you, her expression unreadable, as you walk away, but you donât look back. the weekend suddenly feels a lot quieter than you planned.
â
even if youâd wanted to party, it wouldn't have been an option. yunjinâs gone home for the weekend to help her sister, and youâre stuck in your dorm, feeling sicker than youâve ever felt.
the day started off fine, just a light headache that you shrugged off. but somewhere between the gym and a quick grocery run, everything went downhill. by the time you made it back to your place, it felt like your body had been run over by a truck. your head throbbed, every limb ached, and a wave of dizziness nearly had you collapsing against the wall as soon as you stepped inside.
you barely made it to the kitchen, dropping the paper bag of groceries onto the counter before stumbling toward your bedroom. the cold hit you like a slap to the face, making you shiver uncontrollably. you rummaged through your closet for the thickest sweatshirt and sweatpants you could find, pulling them on with shaky hands.Â
you didnât even think to check your temperature; the pounding in your head and the chills wracking your body were enough to know you were in trouble. grabbing two ibuprofen from the drawer, you swallowed them dry with a couple of forced gulps of water, then collapsed onto your bed.Â
you pulled the covers around you, but they did little to stop the violent shivers. your teeth chattered, and you curled in on yourself, hugging your knees to your chest as if that would somehow keep the cold at bay. every breath felt heavy, every blink longer than the last, until finally, exhaustion pulled you under.
â
the music is noticeably quieter these days, sparing your hearing and everyone else a floor above or below you. really, itâs all danielle's doing. she's somehow found your weaknessâthose soft, pleading eyes and that gentle voice asking you to turn it down. itâs a saturday night, and normally sheâd hear the faint beats of charli xcx or troye sivan vibrating up through the floor, but tonight thereâs nothing.Â
danielle seems to be the only one in her shared dormâand probably the whole buildingâwho feels unsettled by the lack of music. the silence is almost unnerving.Â
âfinally, i can take a nap without those headphones on,â hanni sighs, dropping face-first onto her bed like a log.Â
danielle, leaning against her bedframe, bites her lip. âdonât you think itâs weird though? no party tonight?â
âweird? dani, this is a miracle,â hanni mumbles, already half-asleep. âitâs been months since she hasnât partied, and that was only because we were all gone during summer break.â
but as hanni's breathing evens out and she drifts off, danielleâs frown deepens. it is weird. youâve never missed a saturday night. she doesnât even have your number to text and check if everythingâs alright.
minutes pass, and her mind races with possibilitiesâmaybe youâre just tired, or busy with something else, or⊠sick? before she knows it, danielle is up and moving, driven by a strange concern she doesnât fully understand. she tucks hanni in properly, pulling the blanket up over her instead of letting it dangle off the bed.Â
once she's sure hanni is comfortable, she heads for the door, slipping on her slides and grabbing her key. she feels a small surge of determination as she steps into the hallway. if somethingâs wrong, she needs to know. danielle isnât sure what sheâll find out, but she's already halfway down the hall, her feet carrying her to your place almost on their own.
she gets to your door quickly, fixing her hair because youâre somehow the only person who makes her feel the need to fuss over her appearance.Â
danielle knocks twice, softly at first, just enough to be heard over normal conversation, but there's no answer. she waits, listening for any sound from inside, even from your orange-haired roommateâbut nothing. she knocks again, a little louder this time, about the same level as when you party. still nothing.Â
determined, she finally bangs on the door with all her might and shouts, "y/n! hello?" her voice echoes in the hallway, and a few curious heads peek out from behind their own doors, wondering whatâs going on.
there's a long moment of silence before she hears a faint, âcoming! coming...â it sounds like you, but groggier, almost as if the sound is muffled by the door between you two.
danielle waits, her heart pounding in her chest, until the door opens just a crack, and you peek out, looking utterly exhausted.Â
ây/n?â
âw-what, what...â you murmur, your voice barely more than a whisper, and slightly slurred, like youâve been asleep for days. "whoâ danielle? what are you doing here? there's no party," you mutter, breathing heavily like youâve just run a mile. "you donât have to⊠have to yell at me."
âiâm not here to yell at you, i never yell at you, silly," danielle says softly, a small smile on her face. "can i come in?â
you hum in agreement, and she pushes the door open further, stepping inside.Â
the apartment is dimly lit, with only the glow from the streetlights outside and a small lamp in the living room. danielleâs eyes dart aroundâsheâs never actually been inside before, just caught glimpses through the doorway during those parties. itâs surprisingly clean, smelling of lavender and fresh laundry instead of the stale beer or weed she expected.Â
you stumble forward, catching yourself on the kitchen counter, your legs shaky and unsteady.Â
danielle rushes over, her hand reaching for your arm. âare you okay?â
ây-yeah, iâm fine," you mumble, but your voice is rough, strained.Â
she flicks on a light, and you wince, shielding your eyes with the back of your hand. danielle guides you to the couch, sitting you down gently. you slump back into the cushions, and she takes a closer lookâyour hair is stuck to your forehead, cheeks rosy, and thereâs a dullness in your usually sharp eyes.
without thinking, she presses the back of her hand to your forehead, feeling the intense heat radiating from your skin. âyouâre burning up,â she says softly, concern etched in her voice. âhow long have you been like this?â
âiâ i donât know⊠iâm so tiredâŠâ you murmur, your eyes fluttering closed for a moment.
âletâs get you to your bed,â danielle suggests. âcan you show me?â
you nod weakly, and she helps you to your feet. you sway slightly, leaning heavily on her as she tries to steady you. youâre taller, heavier, and sheâs not exactly built for thisâbut she does her best, slipping an arm around your waist to support you.
your head drops forward, and you breathe slowly against her shoulder. danielle's heart races as she feels the warmth of your breath, and when you look up, your faces are inches apart, close enough that she can feel the heat radiating off you. her cheeks warm up, she wonders if your fever is contagious.
but she shakes it off, tightening her grip on you. âcome on,â she whispers. âletâs get you to bed.â
you lead her to your room, and sheâs a little surprised by how tidy it is. the walls are painted in soft, earthy tones, the furniture minimalistic and neatly arranged. polaroids and film photos cover the walls, snapshots of you and your friends, some of family, too. thereâs a warmth to it, a sense of calm that she hadnât expected. she notices a movie poster above your bedâsomething she doesnât recognize. you collapse onto the bed immediately, curling up into a tight ball, yanking the nearest blanket over you with a groan.
danielle watches you for a moment, then quietly slips out of the room. you lie there, thoughts buzzing in your foggy mind. how did she know you were sick? why is she here? did she come just for you? did you forget something? but the craziest thought of all is that danielle is in your apartment, just the two of you. the realization sends a tiny thrill through your chest.
she returns a few minutes later, carrying a bowl, a bottle of medicine, and a thermometer. she sits beside you on the edge of the bed, nudging you over gently so you're lying flat on your back, your tired eyes meeting hers. she sets the bowl beside you and slides the thermometer into your mouth. you stare at her, feeling a bit dazed, and she offers a small, reassuring smile.
when it beeps, she pulls it out and checks the screen, her brow furrowing slightly. âyouâve got a fever, itâs pretty high,â she murmurs, setting the thermometer down and reaching for a water bottle. âi kind of went through your place to find this, i hope thatâs okay.â
you nod weakly, letting her help you sit up on your elbows. she presses the bottle to your lips, and you sip slowly, a few drops spilling out and dribbling down your chin. you reach up, embarrassed, to wipe them away, but danielle just grins at you gently, wiping them with her sleeve.
she places the bottle down and dips her hand into the bowl. you lie back, too tired to care, hearing the soft sound of water being wrung out. then, without warning, she presses a cool, damp cloth to your forehead, and you wince at the sudden chill, a small whine escaping your lips. danielle clicks her tongue softly, using her thumb to swipe a stray drop of water away from the corner of your eye.Â
âi know itâs cold, but itâll help bring your fever down,â she explains gently.
you feel her hand slide down, and suddenly her fingers are wrapped around yours. her thumb brushes over your knuckles in slow, soothing circles, and you let out a shaky breath, feeling a warmth bloom in your chest. you hum softly, the tension easing out of your body.
"is it okay if i stay for a bit?" she asks quietly. "i don't want you to be alone, but this is your place, after all."
âp-please,â you whisper, gripping her hand tighter, needing the comfort. âplease stay.â
she smiles warmly, nodding, and you feel the weight of her presence, steady and calming, beside you. âiâll stay close then,â she promises softly. âdonât worry.â
â
you wake up with a low groan, feeling like youâve just been hit by a bus. every muscle in your body aches, and your head throbs just a bit. blinking against the dim light filtering through the blinds, you sit up slowly, rubbing the sleep from your eyes. you look around, trying to get your bearings.Â
your gaze falls on the bowl of water beside the bed, with two rags soaking in it, and the thermometer resting on the edge. memories from before you passed out come flooding back, and your cheeks heat up at the thought of danielle sitting by your side, taking care of you. your heart does a little flip at the memory, and you shake your head, trying to steady your thoughts.
thereâs no sign of her in your room. sheâs not in your bed, and you exhale a breath you didnât realize you were holding. honestly, if you had woken up to find her next to you, youâre pretty sure your heart wouldâve just exploded right then and there.Â
with a bit more urgency than necessary, you get up and make your way to the living room. your steps are quiet as you peek around the corner, and there she is, curled up on the couch. sheâs asleep, head resting on a pillow, her zip-up hoodie pulled over her legs like a makeshift blanket. the sight tugs at something in your chest, a mix of guilt and gratitude. she stayed the whole night.
you hurry back to your room, grabbing another blanket from your bed, and return to her side. you drape it over her carefully, making sure not to wake her. danielle shifts slightly, mumbling something you canât quite make out. her face softens in sleep, and you find yourself smiling without meaning to.Â
the morning light slips through the blinds, casting a warm glow across her face, illuminating the soft curve of her cheek, the way her lashes fan out against her skin. she looks peaceful, so pretty in the soft light, and you let yourself enjoy the sight for just a moment longer than you probably should.
you let out a small sigh and decide to leave her be, tiptoeing away quietly. but as you move, you canât help but glance back one last time, her serene expression etched into your memory. then, feeling a strange mix of comfort and nerves, you head to your room to get yourself ready.
âÂ
danielle wakes up only thirty minutes after you, sitting up a minute after sheâs blinked herself awake. she sits up and catches you on the floor by the coffee table, knees drawn to your chest, a bowl of fruit and two pieces of toast in front of you. her vision clears, and she catches you popping a blueberry into your mouth, scrolling absently through your phone.
"good morning..." she mutters, stretching and rubbing her eyes.
you turn at the sound of her voice, surprised to see her up already. she's quicker at waking up than you; you would have stayed in bed for another ten minutes at least, but the pounding in your head forced you up earlier. "hey, i didnât think youâd stay the whole night."
âi just wanted to make sure you were alright," she explains, moving to sit next to you, mirroring your posture, knees tucked in. "i checked in on you during the night to change the rag on your head and everything, seems like youâre back to normal.â
âyou didnât have to, danielle,â you say, feeling a wave of gratitude mixed with embarrassment.
âbut i wanted to.â she shrugs lightly, her eyes softening as she looks at you. âhow are you feeling?â
âi took two advils before brushing my teeth," you say with a small smile. "feeling pretty great now.â
âiâm glad. your fever was pretty high.â
âwas it?â you raise an eyebrow, grabbing a piece of strawberry and popping it into your mouth.
âyeah.â she picks a piece of kiwi from the bowl and eats it. âi was worried.â
you turn your head, meeting her gaze directly. her eyes look a bit tired, her face bare of makeup, but she still looks goodâso natural, so effortlessly beautiful. a thought crosses your mind: you owe her for this, for being so kind and caring when she didnât have to be.
";ast night i didnât hear any loud noises from downstairs," danielle continues, âthere wasnât a party going on, and i got a little concerned.â
you chuckle, setting your phone aside, resting your cheek against your knee. âso you came because⊠there wasnât a party?â
âit was pretty suspicious,â she insists with a playful grin. âthen you opened the door looking like youâd just fought a bear, stumbling around. it was kind of funny, and cute.â
her compliment catches you off guard. you turn away quickly, pretending to be more interested in the fruit than you are. "thank you, danielle," you mumble. "i owe you."
âitâs nothing,â she says softly. "as long as youâre okay, thatâs all that matters." her words feel like a direct hit to your heart, itâs as if cupid had a gun instead of a bow and shot you right in the chest, making you feel strangely warm and fluttery inside.
âyouâre so⊠hey, what about your roommate? isn't she wondering where you are?â
âoh, hanni,â danielle giggles, checking her phone for any messages but finding none. âshe was passed out before i left last night. it's not even ten yet, so sheâs probably still asleep.â she stands up, and you rise with her, feeling a slight pang of disappointment. âbut i should go check on her, and fix myself up. i probably look like a mess right now.â
you look perfect. it almost lips right off your tongue, but you manage to shut your mouth.
you lead her to the door, wishing she could stay a bit longer, just a little while more. âof course,â you say, feeling a knot tighten in your chest. âthank you again for everything.â
danielle places a gentle hand on your shoulder. âitâs nothing,â she says warmly. âiâll see you around.â
you open the door, watching her step outside, but she turns back, hesitating. before she can say anything else, you speak first. "hey, danielle?"
âyes?â
âare you free later?â
âiâm free all day,â she replies, though she adds, âbut i might run errands with hanni.â
âright, well.â you play with your hair nervously. danielle tilts her head, noticing the shift in your demeanor. âyou should come over tonight. iâll cook you dinnerâto repay you, of course.â
she chuckles, a faint blush coloring her cheeks. âthatâs quite intimate,â she teases. âis this your way of asking me out?â
âuhââ your heart races, but you nod, swallowing hard. âyes. and i'd hope your way of accepting is⊠coming over around six?â
danielle's smile widens, her eyes sparkling with amusement. âiâll see you then, as long as youâre not sick again.â
âiâd count on that if it meant having you take care of me again.â
she glances away, hiding a smile, and you catch sight of the tiny moles on her face. "you're really good at this," she says softly.
âiâm really not,â you admit, âbut itâs you, so i thought iâd try a little harder.â
she rolls her eyes playfully, then steps closer and presses a soft kiss to your cheek. your skin heats up instantly, heart racing faster than before. she pulls back with a grin, waving as she says, âsee you tonight, six p.m.!â
âsee youâŠâ you reply, still stunned as you watch her walk down the hall. she glances back twice, each time your smiles mirroring and growing wider.
you wonder if you should cut down on the weekly parties, maybe dedicate more time to being with her. but that might be getting ahead of yourself. for now, all you know is that you have to prepare the best dinner ever tonightâsomething that might just earn you another kiss, maybe on the lips this time.

The silence of the office is deafening, itâs late on a Friday night and of course youâd be stuck finishing a report that your boss had gave you at right before the day ended.
âPlease, have this in my inbox by midnight, Y/n. Itâs very important that we get this to the clients tonight.â mocking you bossâ voice and tone as you fill in the last two boxes with the research requested.
Glancing down at your watch, it reads 8:45pm, way too late to be in this grey washed building any day, let alone a Friday.
Phone on the desk, vibrating with weather warnings that youâve been ignoring all day. Taking just a moment to check what all the interruptions were throughout the night.
âThunderstorm warningsâŠgreat.â typing even faster, trying to beat the rain.
A sigh of relief leaves your lips as you finish crunching numbers and send the report off to the appropriate parties.
âFinally!â Exclaimed victoriously, arms shooting up over your head to celebrate being able to leave, happy to start your weekend but also worried about driving in the storm that was about to drench the town.
Packing up your stuff, meticulously placing everything scattered across your desk in your briefcase and grabbing your blazer, not even bothering to put it on, before basically running to the elevator and slamming the âdownâ button.
The doors slide open, you step over the threshold only to press âLobbyâ three times rapidly not willing to wait for the elevator to register that you were in a hurry.
Itâs time to get out of this building.
Tapping your foot, waiting for the doors to open again so you can make your way to your car. The ding like the start of a race, taking large hurried steps through the lobby of the building and waving to the receptionist on your way out.
Automatic doors robotically opening to reveal a stormy night sky. You can see the outline of the moon behind the threat of the downpour and the scattered patter of rain from the storm that was threatening to drench the town.
âItâs going to be a rough one! Be safe on your way home.â A small velvety voice softly rings out, stopping you from taking a step down the stoned staircase towards the parking lot.
Turning to see who it was, it was the girl from the 4th floor. Tzuyu. Leaning against the stone column and seemingly annoyed but cheery enough to greet you.
Grace displayed in every move she made as she toyed with her side bag, running her fingers through her hair nervously, her eyes scanning the almost empty parking lot and then immediately looking down at her hands still tinkering with the zipper.
Tall but delicate, her long dark pin straight hair framing her face perfectly before landing elegantly on her shoulders. The black trench coat she wore was left open, allowing her business professional outfit of a pastel pink silk blouse tucked into a pencil skirt to peak through.
A polite smile that dawned on her face when she realized you werenât going to just walk past her and wave, causing a flutter in your stomach, which would have stopped you had you not already frozen in place by her siren voice.
No wonder everyone had an innocent work place crush on her.
But why was she waiting out front?
âThank youâŠTzuyu, right?âŠ.are you okay out here? Itâs lateâŠshouldnât you be at home too?â looking back at the sky and gesturing out, referencing the storm about to unleash its wrath on the city.
âWell, Iâve been waiting for an Uber but they keep cancelling because of theâŠâ mimicking your gesture in a dramatic fashion, âso Iâm stuck here until someone accepts the ride.â Sighing in frustration.
âHow long have you been out here?â Concern riddled in your voice.
âThree hours.â
âThree hours?!â shock apparent in your tone and the facial expression you displayed, eyes wide, mouth open and brows furrowed.
Thinking about how she was usually very quiet around the office, she never really said much to anyone but when she did, it was always sweet, kind, or witty.
âDo youâŠwant a ride?â The offer sounds shaky but still meant whole heartedly, the glimmer in her eye tells you that she knows you mean it.
âTruthfully, I was going to just walk but I wonât say no if youâre offering.â Smiling back at you, the gratefulness present in her grin.
âWell itâs about to down pour, I canât let you walk home like this. Itâs also pretty lateâŠso itâs not entirely safe for you to do that. Come on, letâs go.â Waving her over to you so you can make way to your car and opening your passenger door for her.
âThank youâŠâ softly spoken to you as you got into the other side and started the car.
â
As you follow your GPS to Tzuyuâs apartment, the sky opens up. The once withheld clouds releasing their tears, engulfing everything and much like eyes full of emotion, it makes it hard to see the road in front of you.
Thankfully, most cars were off the road, the highway barren in nature, only reflecting the rain splatter and the hazy lines that were supposed to divide the lanes.
White knuckling the steering wheel and leaning forward, you squint. The blur of the road is impossible to read and itâs starting to feel unsafe. Especially with a passenger present.
âHey, Tzuyu. Iâm going to pull over, I canât see anything and it would be a little too reckless for me to keep driving in these conditionsâ Pressing the brakes slowly to ensure not to hydroplane, turning the blinker on and pulling off to the side of the highway.
Pressing the button for your hazard lights, you look over at her to see her fidgeting with her fingers again. She seems nervous in her mannerisms, though still very elegant in the way she manuvers- a loud crack of thunder startles the both of you.
Both wide-eyed, you canât help but giggle at whatâs just happened. She joins you in that and before you know it, youâre both cackling at each otherâs reactions to the clap of thunder.
âSo, Tzuyu.â looking over at her again.
âWhat are you up to this weekend?â Trying to make conversation with this pretty human you hardly knew in your passenger seat.
âWell, my parents were supposed to come into town this weekend but because of the storm, theyâre staying home. So my plans are kind of ruined actually. It hasnât been the best week for me.â Thereâs a hint of sadness being shielded in this response, you can see it in her eyes and hear it in the infliction of her words.
âIâm really sorry to hear that.â Not really knowing what to say next to help her feel better.
âItâs okay, itâs not your fault. I just donât really get to see them often so I was really excitedâŠâ a beat of silence follows, she takes a deep breath and goes on.
âTheyâll come another weekend, we just have to find one without a huge storm.â Chuckling at what sheâs said and covering her mouth trying to mask the disappointment.
âYeah, Iâm sure itâll be soon too! Iâm sure theyâre just as excited to see you.â smiling at her in an attempt to offer warmth to this borderline stranger.
âThank you, Y/n. Itâs really kind of you to say that.â
This is the first time youâve really had a chance to see her, to really see her. Her doe eyes, shy smile, witty sense of humor that poked through momentarily before getting in the car, and the vulnerability she displayedâŠleft you a little curious about who she is, what her personality would convey to you in this impromptu adventure you found yourself on.
âWhat about you?â Tzuyuâs calm voice snapped you out of the curious trance you were in.
âOh! UhmâŠwell I was supposed to volunteer at the local animal shelter but given this storm going through Sunday evening, I donât think Iâll be able to now.â a small sigh leaves your chest, you always did love volunteering and playing with the dogs, as you didnât have one of your own.
âYou volunteer too? Which one?!â the excitement that spreads across her face catches you off guard, sparking that thrill in your stomach again.
âThe one off this exit, actually!â pointing to the sign a couple yards in front of you.
âThatâs the one I volunteer at!â Tzuyu now beaming at you with admiration.
Blinking a few times, your stomach trembles in a way that was unfamiliar, at least in reaction to her. Sure, you thought she was beautiful, but you hadnât really had any time to get to know each other aside from small greetings here and there. This was the first time you really had a chance to speak with her.
Heart beating a little faster as you watch her remove her jacket, revealing toned arms, and place it over her lap so she can rotate in the passenger seat to face you. Leaning back against the door and getting comfortable, she catches you looking at her.
The blush that washed over her cheeks flustered you, a warm boil in your stomach overturning all other emotions, a glimmering shimmer ascended from your bones that soaked into your muscles, causing them to tense and contract under the curiosity you had for the beautiful woman sitting in front of you.
Tzuyu giggled at your react, seeing your face turn red and you look down to avoid her eye contact.
A small rumble interrupted the attempted transformation into awkward silence. Grabbing your stomach realizing you hadnât eaten since before you clocked in, at 8am. Looking down to view your hand shielding your torso, your eyes raise to Tzuyu, who was smiling back at you with her hand covering her mouth, covering the expression that was still being screamed through the her eyes.
âIâm hungry myself. There is a 24 hour diner around the corner from the shelter. Do you want to try to make it there? I bet theyâre open.â repressing a giggle before looking down to try and keep her composure.
âWe might be able to make it there.â clicking the hazard buttons off and carefully pulling onto the highway again, making sure to carefully steer and keep a moderate speed that wouldnât be too dangerous.
â
The bell on the door jingles abruptly, startling the hostess who fell asleep at the podium, unwilling to blame her for the snooze. Rain always makes you tired and itâs not like the place is lively. Empty seats fill the room, so does the horrid song from the early 2000âs playing in the background.
Dripping wet from running from the car, you look to your right and see Tzuyu standing there, completely soaked. Curling up into her self to try and preserve some body heat, it would seem.
âTable for two, pleaseâ the hostess looks at you, then Tzuyu, then back at you and just nods her head, grabbing two menus and setting off to the first table next to her. She placed them at the table before silently walking back to the podium and sitting down again.
You pull the chair out for Tzuyu, this catches her by surprise and she thanks you graciously. Heart soaring as you find your seat across from her. She looks down at the menu, blinks a few times, and then scoots it off to the side.
âI know what Iâm going to get, what about you?â curiosity or inquiring on whether or not you were ready to order? Are you overthinking this? *Yes.*
âHmmmmâŠwell I always order the same thing, so I think Iâll switch it up a bit.â pensively staring at the menu and giving the idea youâre going over it with a fine toothed comb.
âWhat do you normally get?â There is the curiosity you were just questioning.
âWaffles with strawberries.â placing the menu down on top of Tzuyuâs discarded one on the other side of the table.
âOh wow, okayâŠare we the same person? Or is this just a very weird coincidence that we volunteer at the same place and have the same order at the diner that we both go to frequentlyâŠ?â completely in shock about the other details that have surfaced, realizing that you might have more in common that you have previously expected, even if itâs a small thing.
Itâs something to hold onto.
A waitress walks up and stands next to the table, this one you were unfamiliar with. Sheâs not the one here on the days you stop by while on this side of town for volunteering. Looking up and offering her a smile, she doesnât acknowledge it and just simply pulls her pen out from behind her ear, licks the ballpoint, and stares at you as if waiting for something.
âOh, uhmâŠ.okay, Two orders of waffles, One with strawberries and one with blue berries and 2 cups of hot coffee, please!â The waitress nods at you, writing down some shortened version of what was said, before snatching the menuâs off the table and prancing into the kitchen.
Twiddling your thumbs while taking in the atmosphere of the place you usually frequent during the day, the warm lighting was pleasant even in the wake of the storm clashing down outside. Yellowed walls from the years of the building being open covered in themed art based off of âRoute 66.â
Street signs, a wagon wheel, maps of the desert, pictures of vintage cars, you name it - haphazardly sprawled on the walls in a nonsensical manner. It always was something that made you giggle as there was hardly any sense to the interior design of this place, but you enjoyed the food either way.
Eyes shifting back to Tzuyu, who was now shivering in her seat, smiled up at you through chattering teeth. Watching her as she rubbed her arms for warmth, her hair still dripping from the mere seconds of rain you experienced (an ode to how hellish it was).
You stood up, hastily.
Her eyes followed you, watching as you took your blazer off to reveal a perfectly dry black button down. She gazed up at you, watching as you undid your cufflinks and started unbuttoning your shirt.
âTake your jacket off.â stated as you reveal the undershirt you were wearing under your work shirt, untucking it as you pulled it off.
âExcuse me?â Tzuyu, confused and wondering if she should be upset, halfway glares at you for the statement.
âOh! Gosh, no. Uhm, Iâm trying to help you be more comfortable and your jacket is soaking wet. Let me hang it on the back of the chair for you and you can wear this instead.â handing her the shirt that was thick and dry.
âOhâŠâ She stands, removing her jacket in what appeared to you to be slow motion. Excitement returns, finding its place in your stomach as you help her out of her jacket and into your shirt. Nervousness taking over your limbs as you shake, hiding it from her.
She doesnât need to know that youâre feeling this wayâŠthat youâre attracted to her.
Sitting down again, Tzuyu has already stopped shivering and canât seem to hold eye contact with you. A little unnerved, you try to make small talk to quiet the new sensations you were experiencing.
âSo, ho-â
âThank you.â interrupted by the stunning girl sitting in front of you, you canât even mad at the sudden disruption of the question you were about to ask her.
âWhat?â
âWell, today has been kind of not by best day at all. I got stuck at the office, the storm outside, the lack of a ride home, my parents not coming to visit, and the you show up and fix almost every single one of those problemsâŠI mean, you even gave me your shirt because I was coldâŠâ her cheeks flush a lovely rose color.
âItâs really no trouble at all.â quietly from your side of the table, what was she implying here?
âThis is really making my day, so thank youâŠseriously.â
âIâm glad that I can contribute to you having a good day, Tzu.â Sides of your mouth pulling up to offer a small smile, now feeling like youâre on the spot - you donât really know what to do with yourself.
âHere you are, blueberry for youâ a plate heavily placed down on the table and slid against the glassed wood that was heavily tarnished from years of the same movement.
âAnd strawberry for you.â the waitress repeats the movement and slides the fruit drenched waffles in front of Tzuyu before turning around and jogging to get the coffee she freshly made for the two of you.
âDo yâall need any cream? Sugar?â shouted back to the table from behind the âbar.â
âYes, please!â Tzuyu now cutting her waffles before melting a slab of butter on them and then drenching them in syrup.
The waitress brings the packed of sugar and cream over with the two mugs and the pot of coffee, setting the entire tray down before stepping away and leaving the both of you to your breakfast.
Glancing down at the two mugs, you reach over and grab one.
âHow do you take your coffee?â looking up at Tzuyu to see her plopping a syrup coated strawberry in her mouth and trying to chew it quickly so she can answer your question.
âTwo sugars and a dash of cream, usually.â reaching out to take the mug from you, you swiftly move it just out of reach from her.
Setting it down just out of reach, she stops what sheâs doing and watches you take the sugar packets and shake them so all of it piles up at the bottom of the thin paper before you rip them open.
âYou better keep eatingâ scolding her playfully without looking up. A soft shy giggle is heard through the spoon mixing the sugar around, waiting for it to dissolve in the heat of the liquid before introducing the cool cream to the mixture.
Lifting the mug off the table, you hand it to Tzuyu, hands brushing as you pass the mug. The softness of her hands relaxes you, contemplating what it would be like to hold them.
Snapping out of that thought, you proceed to make your own coffee. She takes a sip of hers and nods her head at the warmth and flavor. She watches you tentatively, noticing the two packets of sugar, noticing the same amount of creamâŠ
âAnother thing in common?â taking another bite of the waffles, as you dressed yours the way you enjoyed.
âI actually prefer iced coffee but I wanted to know what your order tasted like.â sipping from the mug and making a face at the flavor.
Tzuyu reaches out and smacks your arm jovially, giggling at the playfulness you possessed when interacting with her.
âItâs just okay. Itâs not sweet enough.â poking fun at her now before taking a massive bite of the blueberry waffles.
âHey!â reaching over to push you lightly.
She hasnât stopped smiling since the two of you sat down, not that it was an issueâŠher smile lit up the room, able to lift anyoneâs mood, and add a warmth to the dreary night.
Gathering a helping of the blueberries on your plate, along with piece of the doughy fluff on your plate, you take your first bite.
âOh, you HAVE to try the blueberries!â speaking with your mouthful in excitement of how delicious and sweet they were.
Scooping a few up on your fork with the waffle and the syrup, you lift it up to her mouth and she instinctually takes the bite with no hesitation.
A small amount of syrup dribbled down her chin. You reach for a napkin and lick the corner of it, placing your free hand on the side of her cheek, you carefully wipe the droplet from her chin before turning your attention back to your food.
Sheâs a few chews deep when both of you realize the intimate moment you have just had with each other.
A flash of heat radiates from you internally, embarrassed at the romantic nature of the action, you look down at your lap - fearful of what the response would be.
âIâm sorry, I know you couldâve done that yo-â
âDonât worry about itâŠI took it from you, didnât I? I leaned into itâŠdidnât I?â batting her dreamy eyes at you, if you werenât already sitting down - you wouldâve needed to.
Suddenly very aware of everything touching your skin, the air in your lungs, and the sweet flavor of the berries that resonated on your tongue. Itâs hard to ignore the signs that you were developing a crush on her, and very afraid of overstepping and scaring her off.
Stop.
Freeze this moment, hold onto the memory and remember it fondly later. The smile, to sweet words, the comfortability. It was unlike anything youâve ever felt. No need to fear, this is happening naturally.
A film in development, a polaroid in waiting - comparable to what was happening right before both of your eyes.
âSo why were you at the office so late today?â sipping the coffee you made for her, humming into the warmth of it, and grabbing her fork to sneak another blueberry or two from your plate.
Tzuyu is leaning in closer to you, elbows on the table and one hand other her chin, the other toying with the fruit on your plate. Sneaking a strawberry from hers, you continue on:
âWellâŠâ letting out a sigh that rang true to how annoyed you were at the day you had.
âMy boss sent me a report that needed to be finished by midnight tonight to be sent over to the shareholders overseasâŠat 4:30pmâŠwhen I normally clock out around 5-5:30pm.â rolling your eyes at the though, before glancing down at your watch to see it was 10:18pm already.
âJeez, that was very inconsiderate of herâŠespecially on a Friday when thereâs a huge storm brewing outside.â another sip of her coffee, another blueberry stolen, another shy look through her long eyelashes, another moment to secretly swoon over her.
The comfort that you feel in her presence isâŠdifferent.
Different in a good way, you were still nervous but not to the same degree. There was a safety here, you knew she wasnât going to judge you and the anxious was more of an excitement than a fight or flight moment.
Taking the last bite of your waffle, you let a few more of the blueberries fall off onto the plate and watched her as she snagged her fork again, sneaking two and leaving the last two for you. Smiling at the gesture, you pop them into your mouth and enjoy the sweetness from both sides.
âIt doesnât look like the rain has stopped much.â glancing out the window and seeing the waterfall of rainwater cascading off the roof and into the parking lot.
âAt least we are full now. Iâm going to run to the bathroom and then Iâll be good to brace the storm again.â Tzuyu stands as she speaks, wrapping herself tightly in the button down to keep herself from shivering as she walks to the back of the diner.
Peacefully watching the rainfall down, sipping the warm coffee and waiting for her return, you gloss over everything thatâs happened this evening.
Being trapped with a pretty woman in your car, not being able to see while driving, getting to this diner and finding out that she was actually really sweet and that you had a lot in common, the flutter returns once more. Tickling your already full stomach with even more comfort and calmness than you could express. A shit day turned into a lovely evening with someone very unexpected.
Flagging down the waitress to get the bill, she waves your hand down.
âYour friend already took care of it! Have a lovely night!â
Confused, you look up and see Tzuyu coming back from the bathroom with a big smile painted across her face.
âWhy did you do that? I was goin-â
âYou saved my day and youâre giving me a ride home, the least I could do was pay for dinner orâŠbreakfast?â giggling as she continued to the table to grab the rest of her things.
âBesides, I ate your blueberries.â winking at you before grabbing her jacket and putting it on again. It was semi-dry now, but still damp enough to give her a small shiver.
âFine, but next time, let me take care of it.â lightheartedly frowning at her.
âStay here, Iâm going to pull the car around so itâs not as wet for you this time around.â You stepped towards the door, buttoning your blazer up and trying to shield yourself from the rain you were about to encounter again.
Bolting out the door before Tzuyu could protest, you hop in the car and turn it on. Flipping your hair over your shoulder to get it out of your face, you pull out of the parking spot and pull up to the door as close as possible to insure maximum dryness in the human you were about to drive home.
She runs from the front doors to the passenger side of your car and hops in, much drier than before. Taking a second to wipe the excess water from her face, she looks over at you and scrunches her nose and furrows her brows.
âNext time?â
âWhat?â
âYou said next timeâŠso next time youâre buying?â so soft it couldâve just been a breath, you can see her hands shaking as she utters the words, sheâs nervous again.
âYes, next timeâŠunless youâd prefer we didnât do this again?â pursing your lips and checking in to see if that was something she was interested in.
âWell, I think Iâd enjoy it more if it wasnâtâŠyou knowâŠviolently storming.â gesturing towards the windshield at the obvious damper on yourâŠ.hang out?
âI think we can make that happen.â
â
Light conversation fills the slow moving car as you make your way to Tzuyuâs apartment. Talks of what you guys would do the next time you hung out and if you should start volunteering at the animal shelter at the same time got you excited about what was sparking between the two of you.
You canât help but wonder if sheâs just as excited as you are.
Pulling off the highway again, you notice itâs unusually dark. The street lights are dim, the traffic lights are flashing and the buildings donât have any life in them at all. Pitch darkness covers the once bustling area with lifelessness and dew drops.
âIs it always this dark over here?â concern is very present, as you never know whatâs lurking in the dark.
âNoâŠI think the power is outâŠitâs always well lit. I wonder how long itâs been out forâŠmy dogs are probably so anxious and itâs so hot too. I hope theyâre alright without the A/C.â Tzuyu starts picking at her fingers, noticeably anxious at the thoughts she was having.
Before your brain could even understand the thoughts you were having, you blurted out:
âWhy donât you pack a bag and come stay with me for the night? You can bring the pups too, of course.â eyed widening when you hear what you just said, you look over at her and see that she has a reaction that isâŠgood?
âReally?â
âYeah, why not? Iâve got air conditioning and Iâd love to have some puppyâs around since we wonât be able to volunteer this weekendâŠI mean, if you want toâŠif youâre comforta-â
âIâd love to.â softly spoken with a very small, very gentle smile across her face.
Pulling up to the building she pointed out as her apartment complex, you offer to come up and help her gather things she might need for the night. Dog food, their leashes, and a bag of her necessities but she politely declines.
âDonât worry, Iâll be quick!â as she hops out of the passenger seat and runs inside, meanwhile youâre just enjoying the view.
â
It wasnât long before she returned with bag in hand and two cute dogs following her. Luckily, there was a break in the rain so the dogs had time to use the bathroom before hoping into the car.
Tzuyu wiped their feet off with a hand towel she had ready before unleashing them into the back seat.
Shy at first, the dogs are seemingly a little timid in their approach to you. Not really knowing how to interact since this is the first meeting.
Rotating in your seat to face them, you stick your hand out very slowly, palm up so they can sniff and decide on their own if they want to be touched or not.
âHelloooo puppies! Itâs nice to meet yo-âŠwait, what are their names?â looking over at Tzuyu for the answer.
âThis one is Kaya and this one is Butter.â pointing them out one at a time and giving the closest one to her a little head pat.
âHi hi hi!â showing excitement in your most bestest baby voice to get them to see you were excited to meet them, they were very quick to return the excitement.
Butter jumped over the center console and ended up on your lap, Kaya finding her way to Tzuyuâs before standing on her back legs to look out the window. Continuing to talk to Butter in a baby voice, you give pats and scritches, toying with her big ears and giving her every ounce of attention you could before she curled up and got comfortable on your lap.
Eyes on you as you softly coo and pet the tired dogâs head gently, the feeling of being watched overshadowed by the care and attentiveness you were giving to the usually anxious dog in front of you.
âIâve never seen her calm down so quicklyâŠeven for meâŠwowâ petting Kaya as the dog scans out the window - seemingly on guard.
âReally?â
Tzuyu just nods her head at you, looking into your eyes, you see a glint of somethingâŠfeeling your heart strings play a song youâve never heard, you watch as the corners of her mouth lift in a very miniscule way. It wouldâve gone unnoticed had you not been sneakily trying to take in every detail of her tonight.
Feeling your body start to lean towards her, Tzuyu seems to have the same idea- leaning into you slight before both of you catch yourselves. Straightening up a little and trying to brush it off as nothing, you turning your head back to the road and grip the steering wheel.
âUhmâŠyou ready?â the sweat on your palms would be visible, if you were willing to let go long enough to look.
âYes, Iâve got everything me and the girls will need for the night.â thereâs a drop in her pitch, a snag in her toneâŠdid she want you to make a move?
Putting the car into drive and heading to the highway again, you make your way to your apartment. The rain gradually picking back up as you pull into your parking garage and whip into your assigned spot.
â
Helping Tzuyu, you grabbed her bag for the night and her purse, letting her carry your two new furry friends as they were obviously more comfortable with their owner than they would be with you.
Hands full, you fumble for your keys. Nervous was an accurate description of what you were feeling, not really expecting to have guests but happy that she agreed to come. You were enjoying the time you were spending with her and werenât really ready for it to be over.
âAfter you.â gesturing her and the pups into your apartment with a smile before you stepped in, closing the door behind you.
Kicking off your shoes and walking over to the couch, you toss the bags on the cushion and remove your blazer, hanging it up in the closet next to the door. Tzuyu still has your button down on, holding the dogs and looking like she isnât really sure what to do as she scans the living room, taking in the pictures on the wall and the setup of the furniture as she places the dogs down on.
âPlease, make yourself at home! Iâm going to change into something more comfortable. There is a half bathroom to your right, if youâd like to do the sameâŠIâll be right back.â the clattering of dog nails on your hardwood floors makes you smile, bringing a warmth to your house that you hadnât felt before.
The tapping gets closer, looking down to see who it wasâŠButter seems to be following you.
âAlright, girl come on. You can come with me!â leaning down to scratch her head before you and your four-legged shadow go to your bedroom.
Leaving the door ajar, just incase Butter decides she wants to leave, you slip out of your work clothes and toss them in the laundry hamper before snagging your favorite pair of sweatpants and a cropped tank top - just trying to be as comfortable as possible after being drenched by the downpour that was now re-opening up outside.
Butter just sits and watches, waiting for you. Unable to help yourself, you coo and talk to her in the âpuppy voice.â She wags her tail back at you and barks a few times, playfully. She suddenly zooms, pushing the door open with her snout and barreling into the living room.
Taking the small moment of alone time to brush your hair out, untangling it and throwing it into a messy bun. A deep breath fills your lungs as you prepare to step out into the living room again. Grabbing a massive fleece king sized blanket out of the closet and a few pillows, you step back into the living room - completely blocked by fabric and fluff.
The dogs start barking at you, cautioning the mass of blanket walking towards them - Tzuyu is laughing at them for causing such a scene when they were just fawning over you.
âI know itâs late already, but we both had coffee so I was wondering if maybe youâd want to watch a movie or something. I know itâs going to take the dogs a minute to get settledâŠand I did so happen to get a bottle of wine the other day if you wanted to have a glass or two with me while we watched somethingâŠif you wantâŠthat isâŠâ plopping the blankets down on the recliner that was next to the couch that Tzuyu already was seated on.
She did take the opportunity to change into something more casual and comfortable. A black cropped hoodie and some light gray sweatpants. Seems like she had a similar idea to you. Even with her sitting down, you could see the outline of her abs.
Swallowing heavily, you avert your eyes, trying not to stareâŠshe was just so pretty and so easy to be aroundâŠgreat conversations and the way that she was just so gracefulâŠ*Wait wait wait*, donât get ahead of yourself. You donât even know if she is feeling the same way.
âYes, that sounds great! What kind of movies do you like?â She shouts while watching you walk to the kitchen to get a few wine glasses, a cork screw, and the bottle you previously mentioned.
âItâs your pick! Whatever you want!â sliding back into the living room on the hardwood, socks allowing the slip of the wood to coast you to your destination with ease.
âDonât do that with so much in your hands!â Tzuyuâs arms raise, ready to catch you if you fall.
âYouâve got glass and a sharp corkscrew! What if you fell?â She stands, taking the glasses and corkscrew from you and placing them on the coffee table before putting her hands on her hips and cocking her eyebrow.
âAwh, come on, I was just having fun!â poking at her for being such a stick in the mud.
Tzuyu sighs, shaking her head slightly before taking her seat on the couch, picking up the corkscrew again, sneaking the bottle from your hands and opening it herself.
âTzuyu, I promise I wonât do it again.â Halfway whined from you as you plop next to her.
âGood.â Handing you the glass of wine she just poured, smiling about getting her way before pouring herself a glass and recorking the bottle.
The thunder claps outside, scaring both of you and the dogs. Barking at the loud sound, they run and jump up on the couch, cowering behind the two of you.
âAwh, babies! Donât you worry, your Mom and I will keep you safe, okay? Okay.â scratching behind Butterâs ear, Kaya picking Tzuyu to hide behind.
A glimpse, thatâs all it was, from the corner of your eye - Tzuyu was staring at youâŠhands on her chin, small smile on her lipsâŠand that glimmer in her eyes.
Turning your head to face her, she quickly snapped out of it. Unwilling to show you what youâve already seen, unable to be so forward with what her body language was already telling you.
âSo what movie do you want to watch?â another crack of thunder and the brightest bolt of lightening you ever seen, followed by a very loud pop, the power surges and flickers out completely.
You sit in shockâŠthe whole point of her and the dogs being here was to get out of the powerlessness of her own apartment, but now she was in yoursâŠwith her dogsâŠand no power.
âDid you hear that? The pop?â Tzuyu shakes her head yes in response to your question.
âThat was the transformerâŠsoâŠtheyâll have to replace it before we get power back onâŠâ the annoyance woven in the words as you spoke them.
She erupts in a fit of laughter, unable to contain it. Her giggle lights a fire in you, boiling your stomach and melting you from the inside you.
The way she covers her mouth when she laughs, the way sheâs leaning back and smacking her kneesâŠthe infectious sounds pull the giggling right out of you, unable to stop yourself from joining her.
âOh, thatâs too funny! I was wondering when that would happen. â wiping the tears out from under her eyes.
âWhat do you mean?â confused at the statement.
âWellâŠlook at how stormy it is outside. It was likely the power was going to go out. Donât you think?â Tzuyu gestures at the window, the pitch dark lit up by random flashes of lightening and the rumbling of the winds clashing together.
âWaitâŠso you knew my power was going to go out here too and you still came?â even more confused.
âYeah, why wouldnât I? It was a sweet offer and Iâm having fun with youâŠhow does âSpirited Awayâ sound?â using her phone as a flash light and going over to her bag to pull out an iPad.
Tzuyu flips open the case of her tablet and sets it up on the coffee table, taking a swig of the wine and getting the movie pulled up as she sits next to you. Youâre a little awe struck, unable to understand what was happening in front of you.
âEverything okay?â leaning back and putting her arm on the back of the couch so it was almost around you, youâre facing her with one leg folded in front of you.
Sipping your wine, you set the glass down on the table and return to your previous position but this time, you rest your head on your hand. Soaking her in as she does the same to you, grinning at you a she takes a sip of her own wine.
Very unprepared for what happens next, Tzuyu reaches over and places her hand on your arm. Shockwaves blast through your nervous system, causing your body to clench and release under her touch.
The place where her hand sits on you burns in the best way, an ache that makes you want to curl up with her in the middle of this storm and just enjoy this time together.
âWhy donât you go and grab some candles and that blanket and come sit closer?â Her tone isâŠattractive.
Tzuyu sets her glass down on the table placed next to the couch, licking her lips to get the wine flavor off them and scooting into the corner, leaving space between the two of you.
Your insides are absolutely screaming, candles? Movie? Wine? Intentionally coming over even though she knew the power was going to go out? Was thisâŠa date? Was sheâŠflirting?
Quickly doing as youâre asked, grabbing the massive blanket and throwing it over top of her lap and going into the kitchen to grab a few candles.
You place them on the coffee table and light them with your emergency matches before sitting next to her on the couch.
Butter and Kaya jump up and find there spots in you and Tzuyuâs lap, she hits play and the movie starts. Her arm present on the back of the couch, youâre tempted to scoot all the way into herâŠtemptation wasnât enough to get you to do so.
There wasnât enough proof it was what she wanted and you were way too nervous to act on the impulse of cuddling Tzuyu.
Fighting the urge to hold her hand, kiss her, innocently touch her arm all night, you canât justâŠdo it, what if she isnât into it? The comfort of her presence was going to have to be enough for now.
The thought are interrupted by a soft hand on your shoulder, pulling you in closer to Tzuyu until your bodyâs were anchored together. You interweave your fingers together shyly, being so soft and slow with the movements as if you were sneaking affection.
Face turning towards her to seek permission, after the hands are already entwined, you are met with her face - mere centimeters from yours.
Time stops.
Her nose grazes against yours.
Nothing else matters.
âIs this okay?â whispered to you while her eyes flicker between your lips and your lashes, searching for signs in your body language.
Nodding your head so softly, had she not been that close to you, she might not have noticed.
Your eyes dance with hers, the tango of anticipation for what was coming.
Suddenly, Tzuyu leans in and connects your mouths together in the softest, sweetest, and gentle kiss.
Fireworks.
Heart beat booming to the sparks of what was being created, the foundation of something more being built right before your very eyes.
Parting briefly for a moment, she looks at you and takes in your features, she lets you watch her do it this time.
She strokes your cheek with the backside of her pointer finger, tracing the lines of your cheekbones and moving her eyes back to your lips.
âWas that still oka-â before she can even finish the sentence, your lips are together again. Initiating something a little more passionate, bringing your hands up to cup her face and leaning further into her.
Her hands find their place on your forearms, holding them delicately while allowing you to take the lead. Fingers wandering back to entangle in her hair, you graze your tongue over her bottom lip, asking permission to take it one step farther.
Her next movement showed she consented, bringing her hands to the back of your next and allowing your tongues to meet. Innocently exploring each other, the movements gain speed as you feel like youâre ascending into heaven.
The satisfying ache of your bones drenched in honey, a thickness that could only be described as a sugary, sappy substance flooded your veins and made you instantly addicted to her.
A grandiose crescendo in the movie brings you both back down to the couch, snapping you back to the present, reminding you that this was just the first time you hung outâŠit was not the time to push it further than it needed to go. Pecking her lips a few times before resting your head on her shoulder, innocently.
Her heart beat is loud enough to be heard, you grab her arm and pull it around you, stretching out across the couch so you both can lay down together.
Her dogs on your laps, you in her arms, her favorite movie playing and the storm outside. All too comfortable and relaxing for the two of you.
You fight your eyes for a while, trying to combat the sleep as it fought for your attention and ultimately lose the battle.
â
The slow build of rain peacefully wakes you, drifting you out of the dreamless sleep, you let out a groan and stretch for a moment, rolling over on the couch and curling up in the blanket that was noticeably missing someone.
The tapping of claws on the floor and panting first thing in the early hours of the day were lovely, even half asleep.
The dogs are jumping on you, licking your fresh morning face and trying to get some love and affection.
âHi hi hi!â in your groggy sleeping voice.
âWhere is your mother? Where did she go?â puppy voice returning while you stand up and survey the room, noticing that the oven clock was blinking so the power was back on, and Tzuyu was nowhere in sight.
Well she had to be coming back, right? I mean the dogs are here, she wouldnât just leave the-
The door cracks open very softly. A hooded figure steps in with a take out bag in hand, rain drops coating the water resistant jacket that was a little too familiar, and closes the door gently behind them. Taking their shoes off softly, before pulling the hood offâŠTzuyu.
âGood Morning, I went out to the diner down the street to get us some breakfast! I thought it might be a nice way to celebrate the power coming back on and our firstâŠuhmâŠwell..â hesitating to say what you both knew it was.
ââŠDate?â finishing her sentence, smiling at her as you made your way up to her, wrapping your arms around her neck.
Tzuyu places her hands on your hips, slowly inching them around your waist so she can fully press her body on yours, lays a soft peck on your cheek.
Releasing you, on a mission to find your coffee stash and get a pot started for the two of you.
âWhat did you get for breakfast?â sitting down on the stool in front of the counter, rubbing your eyes to try and remove the sleep from them.
âWaffles. One order of blueberry, one order of strawberry. I figure we could go halfs-ies on them.â pursing her lips, folding her arms across her chest and tapping her cheek with her pointer finger.
ââŠand miss you trying to sneak blueberries off my plate? Not a chance.â smirking at her, knowing this wouldnât be the last moment you brought up her blueberry thievery.
Tzuyu winks at you, before going back into her deep thought.
Unconsciously admiring her pensive face, you let her ponder for a moment. Taking in the way she shifts her weight from one leg to another, the way she hums while she thinks as if sheâs talking to herself, and how she seemingly doesnât want to ask for help locating whatever sheâs looking for.
Gosh, sheâs so cute.
âWhatcha looking for?â coming up behind her, sliding your hand over the small of her back. You feel her shiver under your touch before she leans into it.
âPlates.â
âAre you trying to guess what cabinet they are in?â teasing her before lightheartedly turning her face towards yours, kissing her and whispering, âTop left, over the sink.â With another swift peck on her lips and youâre off to the other side of the kitchen to get 2 cups of coffee for the both of you.
Bringing both mugs back, placing one in front of her on your way to your own seat, sheâs already got the plates divided up and is waiting for you to sit and get comfortable before she starts to eat.
Breakfast together was fun, asking about favorites - movies, music, colors, animals, hobbies and just learning different things about each other, with the occasional blueberry stolen from your plate. You made sure to share, with the dogs too.
Plain blueberries, of course.
Sitting there for a good few hours before feeding the dogs their actual food and moving back to the couch, you spend the majority of the day wrapped up in each other, the blanket just adding to the coziness of your newly found crush.
âWell, itâs getting lateâŠâ Tzuyu says when the clock hits 8pm.
She stands up, the storm still ever present outside. Getting a ride in this would be impossible.
âI should probably go.â
âYou know you donât have to! Itâs still storming really badly out thereâŠand I am very much enjoying your company.â looking up at her from the comfort of your couch.
Reaching out to grab her hand, you hold her by a few of her fingers and look up at her to find eyes of someone who most definitely did not want to leave.
âI donât want to intrudeâŠâ Tzuyu looks at the floor, waiting for you to combat her sentence, knowing you would.
You stand up, her vision following you as tou step in front of her.
You look her in the eyes, bringing your hands up to tug on hem of her cropped shirt innocently, brushing her stomach with the back of your hand while you toy with the cloth.
âYouâre not. I want you to stay.â toying with the strings of her hoodie while you shyly tell her to stay with you another night.
âAre you sure? I really donât want to imposeâŠyouâve already put me up for a night.â giggling at her own comment, before she meets your completely serious face.
â I want you to stay. If you donât want to stay, then you donât have to. I want you to be comfortable. Iâm okay with whatever you decideâŠit is storming pretty heavily outside though and I want you to be safe.â
Tzuyu beams at you, taking her seat on the couch again and ushering you over to her. You oblige, finding your new favorite spot. In her arms.
âHey, I was thinkingâŠâ she starts to ask.
âWould you want to go to dinner with me next weekend? Maybe we could go to the shelter together and then go get dinner afterwards?â her voice shakes, nervousness looks really cute on her.
âIâll have to check my scheduleâŠâ poking fun at her, smirking while you did it.
âIâd love if you could pencil me in.â snapping back at you with the same amount of playfulness.
âIâd love to.â snuggling into her, flipping the TV on while the storm raged outside.
You hand Tzuyu the remote, letting her pick what you watch. She chooses some documentary about animals for background noise, both of you are too busy wrapped in each other and watching the storm to care about whatâs on the tv.
It was easy to drift off into a mid-afternoon nap in the comfort of her, feeling so safe and cared for while she runs her fingers through your hairâŠyouâll have to remember to thank your boss the following Monday for that stupid report.
Maybe even say thank you to the sky for the rain.
