Paul Hitter
Hitter, through many eyes in the art industry is seen as a prolific artist, being inspired for his work by everyday life, with some some aspects being the life of a gypsy nomad and underdog through his life, Hitter’s painting; usually oil paint’s on large canvas, may be weird by my standards, but many around the world, both sides of the Atlantic, hey see is strong colored style telling tales of Romanian folklore and stories all over the Balkans. What was also note worthy when Hitter was introduced internationally was that along with presenting his work it would usually be showcased with famous musicians. Because of his world wide travel, I thought he would be the perfect artist to explore upon his take and impact toward western globalisation.
“I was confronted in the last years with the western culture and with the western system. It is a system that is spreading everywhere nowadays, a system that is loosing more and more its human face and the real values and traditions. The ‘Established Art’ - I call it post-modern bullshit, shows us a sort of depressive image, a sad, cold and colorless intellectual speech.” Paul Hitter, from just hearing some of what hitter is trying to achieve with his work it is clear that he is attacking the real problem’s with globalisation, from the established art to post-modern art, I agree with Hitter that are society now see only what they want, where color and joy to express are covered with the “safe” greys and browns of societies norm. Which is why when I heard Hitter “choose to stay authentic, I choose to encapture real energy, I choose to show real art “ I knew that his use of wild vivid colors, using bright and colorful paints to “ return back to humanity “ I knew he was on track to fight against globalisation.
I then discover an interview of Paul hitter by Marina Roman, who before the interview had the mindset of nothing happens by chance, and how its only part of “God’s per-established plan”, which made me wonder considering the juxtaposition to Paul Hitter believes in. From her interview Paul Hitter confesses, “I have decided to paint humanly, choosing human topics such as love, hate, death, life, war. They are current, omnipresent, but my choice has been to paint them in an inherent style, the Balkan one. I have chosen to be well educated, but not an intellectualist, and to interact with different cultures. The Balkans transpire, inspire and live, and, just as my paintings, the Balkans are full of irony and color, they can make you laugh without losing their seriousness.” Just from seeing what Hitter has to say shows the audience a clear understand of hitter’s core beliefs and focus on to his work. Marina says after the interview how You don’t need to spend a lot of time in front of any of Hitter’s paintings decoding signs and letters or reading faces in the that he builds. Showing how she agrees, or to a point understands Paul Hitters ambition.
From reading and researching all the information I could on the artist Paul Hitter, it is clear that he uses his work to make a statement to fight back, rise up and bring the human back into humanity.

Andy singer is a cartoonist who to this day continues to teach people about the real injustice that globalisation has and will cause to our world. Not only is singer bold to to vocal and public about certain multi conglomerate businesses like McDonald and Disney, but he also dose not hid the truth that society tries to ignore. I believe the way he present these problem’s as a cartoony sense opens the doors for younger generations to understand the problems of today. I also know that Singer would more or less be against globalisation.

Globalisation, what’s it all about
From what I have gathered over the countless time I have spent researching and looking into, therefore understanding more of, I now have a better understanding of the key factors that are put into play when globalisation is put into a factor in normal day to life situation’s, as well as to why there is a great amount of controversy on the topic in modern times. Globalisation, by definition is the main integration and interaction among companies and the governments worldwide; steam locomotive, jet engine, container ships, international trade, ideas and culture are just some of the examples that globalisation has a effect on. Though the definition may be seen as straight forward in the design, the actual process is a complex entity; that from visiting and researching many varied points for and against the movement, some believe it to be capitalist expansion. Therefore implying the merging of local companies and merchandise, with the large monster conglomerates seen in more economically developed countries (MEDC). Thanks to the continuing development of transportation and communication, the economical interaction and integration that are used in social and cultural ways have greatly increased, however even with all the good that globallisation has done, there are still many factors seen as negative through it that many different groups have started, if not continued to fight back against. Which is why I plan to explore the many sides towards this thing called Globalisation.
While starting my exploration of the vast amount of opinions that many articles and reports had throughout the world, I did stumble upon a few key correlating links that the majority of continents and countries had in common. A study by Peer Fis and Paul Hirsch in 2005 discovered that there was a dramatically large increase in articles negatively commenting about globalisation as a whole prior to 2005. other years also say the outnumber of positive articles compared to the negative one, to the point that the number of negative reviews and articles on globalisation doubled through the 20th century. From this small study alone I could find a pattern starting to emerge from the vast amount of opinions on this, but I also saw that the majority of western views on globalisation compared to other continents of the world are very varied. With a international polls, it showed residents in Africa and Asia see globalisation as a positive process that they welcome to the point that over 50% believed it was happening to quickly! It was also seen that the status of class and race also shifted the tide on opinions towards globalisation, where in more western cultures, its seen that educators and salesmen would be more likely to support the movement, whereas less educated workers, who were more likely to compete with immigrants and workers in developed countries would be against globalisation. From this brief start into the controversy that is globalisation, it links back to what I recently just said, how factors like you status and race in society also effect your opinion, it is seen that many people residing in MEDC’s see this movement as a positive factor on there lives to secure safety for their daily lives, whereas those who go against globalisation tend to do so in order to help environmental and nationalist causes, but now I want to further explore the variety of opinions globalisation has caused.
From looking at a article from economicsonline, It gave me a clear and understandable facts on the pros and cons of globalisation as well as linking them to real social aspects in society. For example large MEDC’s like the UK can avoid certain high secure regulations by locating production in less economically developed countries (LEDC), by this, hopefully in the future, increased trade is likely to lead to the creation of more jobs in the workforce with all the countries that are involved. Because of this, the social affect from this is that UK growth is likely to increase, due to the aggregate demand through increased exports. Also with the increased competition in the exporting, it may reduce the price level for consumers, for UK firms can source from around the world. But there are a large amount of negatives that have risen due to globalisation, such as over-standardlisation of products through global branding is one of the most know factors people see in globalisation, such as McDonald’s as a fast food company or Microsoft being part of the majority of people’s computers, which causes a large impact of product diversity and makes it little to impossible for small, local producers to enter to competition. It also creates inequality, as richer MEDC’s benefit more then LEDC’s and not to mention the increase of pollution due to the transportation used to export the goods, causing the social effect to be a increase of unemployment and the structural change of society, widening the gap between rich and poor more, all due to globalisation.
Another example I got from the website the guardian, was a article about globalisation from a man called Jim O’Neill, a former chairman of Goldman Sachs Asset Management and former commercial secretary to the UK Treasury, is honorary professor of economics at Manchester University. From reading what he believe about globalisation, it is shown that he truly believes that it is a good thing in today’s modern society. The example he used through the article was a country know as Chile and how despite a large of problems the country have; such as having a low growth rate, economical challenges, and experiencing tsunami's and earthquakes through its past, they are known as the richest in Latin America. Reason why could be contributed by Chile’s mass copper production; which has powerful antibacterial properties and is ideal for use in healthcare where bacteria spreads most, and experience on natural disasters, because of this the social aspects for Chile are being apart of improving global health, increases exports and declining the economic inequality among countries, which has dropped thanks to Chile’s rise. Not only that but due to their experience of knowing how to manage earthquakes and tsunamis, they have valuable resources for other countries threatened by natural disasters.
Overall I believe that Globalisation, such as many big changes around the glob, will alway have a good and bad through the era. Through there has been a sudden increase in cultural awareness, the main factors that exist in our society, race, status wealth will always play in to whether globalisation is used for good or evil.

Diaspora and Visual Culture
Nicholas Mirzoeff, "The Multiple Viewpoint: Diasporic Visual Cultures," in Diaspora and Visual Culture, edited by Nicholas Mirzoeff (London: Routledge, 2000), pp. 1–17.
From what I have read from Mirzoeff’s work on diaspora and visual culture, is that there is a clear division that capitalist society use to ignore or make the work’s and remain cultures of diasporas disappear or hidden away in the corner of what makes the “western” society seem as strong. “art collections served to reinforce the precised “superiority” of western culture”and this clear divide; just as the clear divide was in the 19th century, so too is a divide of culture’s through race and status presented in our capitalist world.
a diaspora is a scattered population where origin lies in a separate geographic locale, or a mass dispersion of a population from its indigenous territories. From just that simple yet complex definition it has opened my eyes to just how much lost history could or already has been go through societies rapid and enormous development through the decades. How once Mirzoeff believed are advances of technology was seen as a “global village” in the 1900′s is now “capitalism has become post-national” does not surprise me as much as it should; knowing that me and the majority of society see this advancement as good, it did open my eyes and make me wonder how much culture was lost given the amount of time globalisation has become mainstream.
However I do believe that in our time right now “the idea that culture must be based in one nation is increasingly being challenged”, which I believe to be very true. Nowadays the artist and people who are “woke” looking to educate themselves on other cultures other then what capitalistic society spoon feed us to see as good and bad. This also correlates to what Mirzoeff disagreed with; or what a person in his book disagreed with, that “ a distinction was made between historical objects that were displayed in national museums and the disinterested category of art” which may not be as true as it was back then, considering the amount of art galleries and museums around London, but you can agree on the fact that if there is a museum that shows of historical objects like vehicles or culture, that the majority if not all that would be on display would most be European or western culture as the main highlight of the museum, with “both...excluded diaspora people” or a degree where they are secondary display’s.
How the mindset of some may be seen as “diaspora was something that happen to “them” not “us” may be true largely in our current society, I too see the opposite effect happen everyday too, how the diaspora culture and there people continue to express themselves and fight out against what globalisation and capitalism do, for that alone I believe Mirzoeffs work has helped me better understand what globalisation is to people and how it can effect society in many ways.

bagger43 may not be as vocal and expressive on the issue of globalisation as some of the artist I chose, but I do believe that I chose him due to is incredible skill and talent of drawing and illustrating avian creatures, the simple strokes to express the detail these birds have really inspire me to find more creative and expressive ways to express globalisation.

Ecology, the Environment, Other Beings, one way or another, everything changes
from Klein, N. (2015) This changes everything: capitalism vs. the climate. London: Penguin Books, pp. 1–28.
“the fact that the burning of fossil fuels is so radically changing our climate that it is getting in the way of our capacity to burn fossil fuels.” From that quote alone it is clear that this text shows us, the audience the irony of what humanity has done to this planet, from using an event still relevant to this date, of the summer of 2012, before and after, the summer’s have gotten more and more dramatically hotter, linking back to the event of the airport and how a “airplane” sank into the ground is more then enough to get the picture that climate change is something to be taken seriously, however capitalist company’s wave it off and just see it as “ very unusual temperatures.” Showing off the point Klein N present in their book and want to present to UN-educated citizen’s who don't know.
From further reading of Klein N, his reading continues to tell us, the reader how each and everyone of us see’s climate change and how we do nothing but either shrug it off,” maybe we do look- really look- but then, inevitably, we seem to forget”. “A great many in this kind of climate change denial, we look for a split second and then we look away, or we look but then turn it into a joke.” With this I agree 100% that the fact in our current society, the first thing that happens is usually it is made into a joke, or meme, before any takes a serious look at the problem at hand.
This links back to what I want to portray in my graphic media work, with my etchings, I want the people who shrug off this massive issue with having pigeon features instead off human, by doing this I hope to imply that the majority of us are mindless followers to the natural normal, and that's bad. I want, just like Klein N to be able to spread this message of awareness to whatever cause seems right.

koteri.ink, who has already created and published his own book, is a master at portraying anthropomorphic characters in his illustration’s, the detail he put’s into both the animal feature’s and the human anatomy is quite amazing when you look at his work. The compositions he creates are quite surreal in their complexity and beauty.
The reason why I believe koteri.ink will be useful in helping my work, Is because it gives me reference material to fall back to in case I need an example, It also helps when looking at a anthropomorphic character the importance of the animal and human side of the character.

The Beardsley Generation
By visiting the Heath Robinson museum, I was fascinated and to be frank quite amazed by how much information I got out of the Beardsley Generation exhibition. From first glance I was enthralled by the beautiful piece of black and white work’s I saw displayed around the room, only by further expectation did I realise that these work’s were forms of graphic design!
From what I have read and seen about this exhibition, It’s main purpose is to show the audience; being me and the people visiting the museum, how this generation around the 1890′s a different for of graphic media, which was a form of etching that has never been seen or heard of before. I felt like this was such a unique style of etching that have never seen before, The sheer detail and complete control of the line work amazed me, not to mention how the end result prints were so clean compared to the one’s I have created in the past.
From looking around the exhibition, I could sense that this exhibition was expressing a new process of engraving to me, by setting up examples of illustration’s that were drawn around the same time the new process was created. I learnt that many artist’s at the time were amazed by this new form of print media that they decided to scrap the original, which was wood engraving’s. Not only did this help artist’s print there illustration faster, but because of this the industry itself expanded. From the look’s of work on display I could say this helped illustrate book’s faster then before.
To conclude this enjoyable tribe I got to enjoy, I can very much say that It was a worth while and interesting place to discover and learn about different ways of engraving.

Ideas for etching
, For block 2 of the project I wanted to continue my work through etching, and have decided to do a series of 5 etching’s with different compositions, but all rotate towards anthropomorphic character’s as reference to globalisation and how “technology” or to say better society has turned into nothing less then mindless pigeon’s on there phones. I thought I might just do a large piece like I did the first etching. But I believed I could safely finish 5 in time.
The first Idea was a sort of group of bird people on top of each other, there wasn't much thought put into this composition I just though It was interesting.
The next one was kind of a serious one, where in a local urban environment the majority of citizens are mindless pigeon people on their phone’s going through there life, but in the center of the piece, there is a child who fight’s back from the norm and remains human in a pigeon invested world, where the skyline would also take place. Before I even thought of making this into a etching, I wanted to draw it first, but considering the time i knew a etching would be better.
The other composition that I wanted to create was with a main pigeon person in the center of the etch with comic like panel boxes around him, having illustrations that relate to the other 4 etches.
I hope these come out as well as I illustrated.

Sketch ideas for the first etching, with these it clear shows the audience the creative process I took to create that wonderful engraving. though I do realise how limited the amount of draft I did to make this piece, but I was behind in the project compared to everyone else considering I was stuck on what to do for the project.

MinJung Kang has some of the most clear Idea of what I want my project to be, or to be exact It has the asphetic I want to portray on my engraving. The use of shape to create to unique character that is interesting to look at, as well as a clear style which shows the type of character that illustration is. What I also enjoy about his work, specifically the illustration’s I chose of his work, is the way he portray’s different type’s of birds in such a simplistic way, but can show a large variety of emotion.
MinJung Kang is a inspirational artist with a really out there sense of style when it comes to his work, I want to be able to give my illustrates the amount of emotion to make sure that they don't look plain to the viewers.
