Punishment Island: There are things we don’t speak of in Kampala, that’s why the city always ruins the naive and innocent. Naka, a socially anxious, lay-about who’s into girls, photography and recreational idling has an encounter that shows her the darker side of the city.
Hey there, hope you’re doing well. I released my first fiction podcast episode based in Uganda, Africa. It’s basically about a girl and the supernatural things we don’t speak of in Kampala.
If that interests you, episode one: “The Witching Hour”, which is an introduction of sorts, is already out, please give it a listen.
It’s up on itunes, google podcasts, stitcher and hopefully everywhere else you listen to your podcasts from.
Episode two will be released next month. Please subscribe if you don’t want to miss it when it does. Podcast production is a steep learning curve so i’m working on improving the quality in the upcoming episodes, promise :)
Thank you. Happy Holidays to you!

Shake the Dust
youtube
“Some time ago, our real stories got lost in the ones that others told. But we are our own story tellers and we are here to tell you one that has not yet been told”.
Created by rapper Nasir “Nas” Jones, journalist-turned-filmmaker Adam Sjöberg and producer David Jacobson, “Shake the Dust” is the story of break dancers from Yemen, Cambodia, Uganda, and Colombia united by their love of hip hop. In this film, Hip hop is the land of a thousand stories; stories of individuals that are separated by cultural boundaries and individual struggles but are inextricably bound to each other through their passion for dance and hip hop. “Shake the Dust chronicles the influence of break dancing, exploring how it strikes a resonant chord in the slums, favelas and ghettos of the world and far beyond. Shake the Dust is an inspiring tribute to the uplifting power of music and movement.”-shakethedust.org

Watch Animated and Live-Action Hybrid Danish-Ugandan Short Film Collaboration “Walk With Me”.
Written by Hakeem Adam.
Experience a reality blurring excursion into a young girl’s mind inhabited by staring dolls heads, pink skies and iridescent thoughts in Walk With Me.
As part of the Copenhagen documentary festival’s Dox:Lab project Ugandan Multimedia artist Peter Tukai Muhumuza and Danish filmmaker Johan Oettinger create a 12 minute short film by merging animation and live action feature film techniques in an haunting portrayal of a child’s encounters with death, heightened by her innocence.
Walk with me outdoors the eerie yet beautiful innocence of the young girl when she is confronted with death for the first time as we are accompanied into her conscious and unconscious ‘realities’ in a bid to “get up”. The artists skilfully prod your awareness of the deep seated themes of mortality and aging with moody and dark pictures and animations. The film was shot in Uganda and completed in Denmark. Walk with me has been met with critical praise including a nomination for the Tiger Award for Short Films in 2014.
The chilling and reassuring cinematic project Walk With Me blends both director’s artistic impulse the most riveting way possible.

Woman owned, managed and run steel mill in Uganda
Lydia Mwesigwa is a marketer by profession who at first didn’t have any interest in owning a steel manufacturing plant apart from earning a salary from it. Having worked for Sembule Steel Mills, for five years, she realized that there was an opportunity for one to earn from a steel industry. When the company developed some problems, she decided to venture into her own business of making steel products for sale.
The steel industry world over is dominated by men, for Mwesigwa to venture into steel sounds hard but that is her business at the moment and she is not about to back off.
There is a belief among women that certain businesses and jobs are meant for men but this can be changed once they believe in themselves. A total of twenty women run the machinery after getting training from the men who are senior operators and the plan is to train more women to encourage them to work in steel manufacturing industries.
Some of the products at MESAH steel Limited include round bars, barbed wire, chain link and other steel products.
