Actually, between you and me, I'm tempted to try merging wayfire and niri, basically supercharging its shader platform
I found out that I may have been a little mean to wayland
and now I am trying out a wayland compositor that's a scrolling window manager (and isn't wlroots based 🥳) it's called niri
it's actually interested me for a little bit

Wait, no, I'm pretty sure it is wlroots based. But niri is still the best window manager out right now and it isn't even close. Also, what's wrong with wlroots anyways?

Oh, a personal grievance. Unixporn is a lovely, welcoming community largely due to its strict moderation. Fuck vaxry for saying otherwise.
hello everyone please look at hyprland because it's pretty
there's still a lot of work to do but it's coming along and I've gotten past the worst random problems

So I'd be remiss not to comment on some nasty hyprland history, things which have been dealt with, but that I think need to be talked about anyways.
I'll start with some fairly ancient stuff he's said, take this with a grain of salt, as, being from a browser window opens the image, but, if it is real... It leaves me with some questions

Here's a post by drew (wlroots dev) about his abysmal discord moderation
https://drewdevault.com/2023/09/17/Hyprland-toxicity.html
In fairness, I'll link the response by vaxry, it does, of course demonstrate a lot of growth and maturity, and suggests that he's dealt with the situation
So, then freedesktop decided to ban vaxry from contributing.
Vaxry's response:
https://blog.vaxry.net/articles/2024-fdo-and-redhat
I'll leave it to you to draw your own conclusions on the subject, but I have some... bad vibes here.
1. Being abrasive is not a character trait, it's a character flaw. Abraisiveness frustrates conversations, and makes it more difficult to find the truth of a situation, it makes people root against you, and will inevitably result in you developing increasingly spiteful and hostile attitudes towards the people around you. What vaxry needs isn't to come to jesus. He needs to chill the fuck out.
2. A lot of justification, and saying he's apologised, but not a lot of apologising. Often, then best way to handle a situation is to start by apologising again, to restate the steps you've taken to resolve a situation, and the outcomes they've had.
3. Its hard to believe that vaxry is genuinely on the side of the trans community. It feels, in some cases, like he's less an ally, and more a person who has to put up with us. The truth is, yes, people do, in fact, need to be actively pro trans. If you're not genuinely with us, you're against us. We don't live in times where sitting on the fence is acceptable anymore, we live in times where people are actively attempting to kill us. If you're not anti transphobe, you're letting transphobes kill us. It's that simple.

Wayfire is indeed the new compiz, in fact that's why I tried it back when it first came out.
That said, if you don't want to put the time into building your own DE from a window manager, you can install the compiz animations as plugins for KDE and/or gnome.
compiz needs to come back
like seriously
all other WMs are fucking boring as hell
make my windows wobble
make my windows go up in flames
make my windows fold up into a paper airplane and fly off screen
turn my desktop into a cube
WE NEED MORE SILLY WINDOW MANAGERSSSS

I don't know who is interested in hearing this, but since Microsoft is dropping support from windows 10 this year in October it will mean many are forced to move on and many have their issues with windows 11 due to reportedly a lot of bloat and an AI assistant no one is really hyped for and i am one of the people that did not look forward into updating to windows 11, because i don't know. I'm not a fan of the taskbar in the middle and a lot of what i've heard is not amazing
So i tried something new and i switched to Linux (i dualboot it actually), and i've been running it for about a week now? It's so nice because this distribution was so easy to set up and it's very minimal i cannot lie. Aside from a few hiccups getting it running, this operating system has been a dream to use at the moment. I don't even know if this is the "right place" to rant about operating systems but i just had to share :)
