tyler stood nearby, popping his favorite kettle corn into his mouth as he watched people attempt to play the fair games amusingly. his attention was drawn to one particular brunette, watching as she continued to miss the stacked bottles. a sheepish smile teased his lips as she pouted. “the answer to that depends...what’s in it for me?” he was being modest, he played baseball all throughout high school and college. either way, she was getting the stuffed animal, he was too determined to do so now. he reached his hand out to the employee working the booth, handing them the dollar in exchange for a ball. “how long have you been going at this?”

Aiyla held the final soft ball in her hand, prepared to make this throw count. She eyed the bottles stacked up behind the counter, just asking to be toppled over despite her inability to successfully knock them down with her past attempts. Taking a deep breath she aimed then threw the ball as hard as she could. Only to miss the stack of bottles once again. “Shoot.” She complained with a pout, turning to the person next to her. “How good is your throwing arm? If you help me win that stuffed black cat up there I’d owe you one.”

hearing a rather familiar voice, tyler turned around swiftly, a charming smile marking his features. “looks like i made quite the impression on you.” he joked lightly, stuffing his hands into his pockets. the man was unsure in that moment what to do. should he hug her? shake her hand, maybe? “god, i don’t know. maybe five years? honestly, it’s been all a blur to me.” he nervously chuckled. “but i’m good, and the fair’s uh-...a fair. i’m just here for the fried dough, if we’re being honest. what are you up to?”

“Oh my God, I’m so sorry I chased you down back there. I just saw the back of your head and immediately recognized you.” Even Dorothea herself was surprised that she was able to pick their face out in the midst of all the people and excitement surrounding them. “I mean how long has it been? How are you? Are you uh, enjoying the fair? ”

* backstory

being the miracle baby to larissa and joshua jenkins, tyler grew up as a child to a very successful surgeon and lawyer, his life wasn’t anything short of being both comfortable and lavish. he grew in england up getting everything he needed and wanted, and then some. and while he might’ve been the only child, he grew up around lots of cousins. but that didn’t help with the lonely childhood tyler experienced. with the sky rocketing success of their respective careers, tyler’s parents focused more on the awards, cases, and galas - and ultimately missed some of the most important and pertinent years of his life. as if this wasn’t enough, his father was ultimately one of the biggest assholes known to man.

instead, tyler was primarily raised by nannie’s until his family moved to the united states when he was 10, which is then he was introduced for his now lifelong nanny/house worker, maria. despite having her own life and her own kids, she attempted her best to raise him as her own, and he loved her, and truly felt loved by her. she tragically was killed in a car accident when he was 20 years old; tyler’s still incredibly heartbroken over it.

with the death of his only motherly figure and being ultimately ignored by his own parents, tyler quickly grew into a rebellious phase of his life. partying, drugs, and alcohol essentially took over his teenage years, causing that portion of his life to be a hazy blur. this quickly went from being just a social occurrence to daily use, to when he could barely go a few hours without popping a pill or two. this continued until he experienced an overdose that resulted in his month long hospitalization. he was 24 at the time, which is when his parents finally decided to pay attention to him, but in the worst way. threatening his trust fund and threatening to cut him off (when he had ultimately been relying on them to pay for his college tuition), tyler was forced into rehab. he was in an out of rehab for two years, going for a few weeks at a time during school breaks, but only staying sober for months at a time. at this point, he’s kinda given up at the concept of being completely sober. while he’s no longer doing what he considers to be “hard” drugs like cocaine and lsd, he still uses xanax, smokes weed, and occasionally drinks alcohol.

while he’s a mess, he’s smart as hell and knows it. he currently practices law in his current home, which is in new york city. busy, busy man.

* connection with sarah

he was actually pretty close to sarah, in fact he was VERY close to sarah. given his sexuality, and the fear of his parents disowning him because of it, sarah was kind enough to be his beard. she would go with him to family dinners, fancy galas, wherever he needed to keep his family off his back, and to stop them from trying to set him up with various women. because of this, the two had a close friendship, and he trusted her with almost everything. and because of this, he was a bit protective of her. she was one of the very few reasons he came to visit, and he’s absolutely devastated by the news.

very lovable, kindhearted, and considerate once that wall is broken down. when he loves, he loves deeply and hard

very athletic, and eats healthy for the most part. wakes up at 4:30am to go on his daily run with his pitbull, zoe. likes to play baseball in his spare time. is thinking about potentially joining a community league!
