Riddle School: The Saga
By Jonbro
⭐️ 8/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 20th-21st 2025
Status: Fully Completed
TW: Mention of Pedophila
Ok so, im not gonna do my usual format cause 1. Ik no ones seeing these and 2. I just wanna rant, cause like, i have sm to say ab both the games and the rabbit hole I went down ab the creator.
Ill start w the easy part, the games:
I first discovered them through my 11yr old selfs devotion to DanTDM. I wouldnt really call my feelings for him at the time romantic, more just someone to look up to. Nonetheless, i still diligently watched every single one of his posts. I loved specifically when he did multi-parters as the next instalment gave me something to look forward to when I got home. Riddle School was no different in that respect, just a funny lil game I watched my favourite youtuber play. When the games became more plot focused, i got really invested it them and the aliens storyline. I think I was dreaming about it for about a week after. Then Dan moved to the next series and Riddle School faded into the back of my memory.
Then this week, I was scrolling through my game site and there it was again. It had the same art style and puzzles I remember, though this time I didnt have much of a problem solving them. I worked my way through the series quickly, with each game giving me bits of that old nostalgia. I even remembered the twist ending and the photo album at the end. It just felt really good to connect w an old piece of myself when everything around me is changing so much. I wanted to pay respects to the person who brought this piece of my childhood to life, so i went back through each game and read the endnotes Jon had written. His openness and creativity was really inspiring to read, so I went to youtube to see if I could find what he was working on modern day.
I found that he'd also made that one egg fnaf spoof and a bunch of animations, but his most recent video was ...strange.
You can find it for yourself, i feel like I can't really do it justice rn. It should still be up on his channel.
It left me feeling like I was missing context, so I felt the need to look for it. I ended up watching Chazington's Jonochrome Vs The World, and that was really disappointing. I really don't like the thought that I was in Jon's preferred age range when I first found his work.
Chazington's video laid out the works and controversies really well, with a solid sense of humour and a vulnerable view point from someone who was once a fan themself.
There's not really a point to me writing this, ig go check out Chazington and put your respect in the art, not the artist.

Doors: Paradox
By Snapbreak
⭐️ 6/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 15th 2025
Status: Unfinished, Might Revisit
TW: Blades, Spiders
I mean I liked it, i think i just got bored and my ADHD needed more stimulation
Puzzle game where you unlock the door that the level is based around by solving puzzles to unlock items which get you closer to opening the door. Available on all devices
Review: Firstly, the art style is natural and stylized in a way really suited to my tastes. Every level has its own distinct theme but they all look part of the same world. You can really appreciate the work this team put into it, especially the graphics and animations in the levels. However, i thought the overarching cat character with the notes felt kinda tacked on. Like the theming was there, but the notes themselves felt underwhelming and almost irrelevant at times, and the cat animation in between levels felt a bit too copy-paste, though this might just be me not finishing the game. I def want to keep playing some time though, at least for the sake of seeing the themes in the other levels.

Daily Room Escape
By The Article 19 Group
⭐️ 4/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 13th 2025
Status: Completed (Jan 13th only)
TW: NA
It was fine. kinda stimmy but i didn't want to stick around long, let alone multiple days
Point and Click w inventory, based around opening a specific box by opening other boxes which give you objects that help you
Review: the art style is NOT for me. It gives "meditation ritual given by my therapist who only gained empathy through shrooms". To be fully fair though, the puzzles had a good amount of variety and having multiple rooms made it feel less claustrophobic than I expected. However, when I loaded a previous day, it showed that it was the same room w the same lay out, with the main changing being what puzzles are where. I assume they solutions changed too but I didn't keep playing long enough to find out. Overall, solid puzzles but I'm aesthetically opposed

Escape 20 Rooms
By Hype Game LLC
⭐️ 3.5/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 13th 2025
Status: Unfinshed, Will Not Revisit
TW: NA
Honestly I got bored and frustrated w this one, its just not for me.
First person walking simulator where you enter four digit passwords into obvious keypads beside the exit. PC browser only
Review: This was boring. And kinda broken. Like 3 dif levels broke and when I refreshed the page they were fixed, but I had to replay all the earlier levels to get back. I think I got 6 levels in. It was kinda ugly and just didn't hold my attention. To find the key codes, there are hints around each room, but there wasn't enough variation for my taste and I much prefer moving parts over walking around a small room. Overall, its fine ig its just not for me.

Paint Room Escape
By masasgames
⭐️ 5.5/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 13th 2025
Status: Completed
TW: NA
Ok for me this was a better thought out version of those mobile games. Like I love those things too but its much closer to stimming than being engulfed by a plot.
You're trapped in a room, and through solving puzzles you unlock different paints that lead to objects that will eventually lead to your escape. Point-and-click w inventory.
Review: Just a bunch of creative puzzles in a format that clearly shows progression. The lil diagram beside the door that gives the road map is such a smart trick, you wouldn't even know what it's for until you figure out the objective. A simplistic and minimalist art style, but its suits the theme of colours and paint well. Overall, a well constructed straight forward puzzle game.

Strange Case 2: Asylum Escape
By labeledman LTD
⭐️ 7.75/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 13th 2025
Status: Completed
TW: fantasy violence, blood, mutilation, psychological abuse/torture
I played this one right after finishing the first, tho at that point it was 1 am and I was following an ADHD rabbit hole. I def enjoyed it but not as much as the first.
Continuing where the first game left off, the protagonist wakes up in a psych ward with none of his memories. While exploring the facility looking for answers, he uncovers darker secrets. Same type as the previous entry.
Review: Coming right from the first game, the first thing I noticed was the upgrade in UI. It's much more stylized and this carries over to the dialogue. You can also combine items now, and the way this was incorperated kept guessing to a minimum which I appreciated. I can tell a a lot of effort went into the art, game play and puzzles which was great to see. However I felt like because of these other increases in quality the story felt a bit more rushed and disconnected from the first game. I do get it tho, amnesia is kinda a plot reset, but I really really looking forward to seeing the progression of the last ones plot. Overall, Its clear how much effort went into this game, but I personally play for gameplay and plot.

Strange Case: The Alchemist
By labeledman LTD
⭐️ 8.5/10 ⭐️
Played: Jan 12th 2025
Status: Completed
TW: fantasy violence, blood, interacting with detached body parts and dead things
Ok so I had sm fun w this i felt the need to start this account, cause it sent me into a frenzy for these things.
It's an adventure/point-and-click style escape room puzzle game that has you play a detective as he investigates the disappearance of an alchemist. It's the first of two instalments with a third on the way.
Review: The puzzles were challenging and inventive while always drawing from the surroundings. I did get stuck a few times, but walkthroughs were easy to find and the solution usually made a lot of sense. The art style is cohesive and really suits the vibe the creator was going for, though I found the design of the final boss a little disappointing. Outside of that, it was a fun and compelling game that left me wanting more so badly I immediately started the sequel.
