Learning to Drown | The North Face from The North Face on Vimeo.
Learning to Drown follows the life and career of professional snowboarder Jess Kimura as she unapologetically shatters stereotypes with her own brand of unwavering determination and go-for-broke mentality. After the tragic death of Jess's partner at the height of her career, she spiraled into a cycle of self destruction, grief and despair. Compounded by head injuries and mental health issues, the circumstances seemed insurmountable. Jess's only way out was within — as she faces her deepest fears, she reminds us that not all wounds are meant to heal.
"Jess Kimura is not afraid of falling. This beautiful film showcases her long journey of persistence and determination as she takes on one challenge after the other to become one of the most influential snowboarders of her time. Jess openly shares her deepest fear and suffering and reminds us of the importance of being our best selves, in this inspiring lifetime story of a hero." — Bachar Khattar, jury member of Banff Film Festival

Huckberry x The James Brand - Behind the Brand from Huckberry on Vimeo.
In the hyper-macho world of tactical or wilderness-themed "everyday carry" blades, we were quickly smitten with The James Brand — whose beautifully fresh interpretation on the classic folding knife answered our genuine desire for an essential that favors the subtleties of utilitarian design. Jonsing to get inside the minds where this knife, and its equally brilliant branding were conceived, we returned to Portland to chat with James' Cessna-flying, outdoors-loving, skate bowl-dropping co-founders: Ryan Colter and Sam Amis for the latest episode of Huckberry Behind the Brand.

Huckberry x Poler - Behind the Brand from Huckberry on Vimeo.
In the spirit of making functional and durable outdoor gear more accessible, more friendly — and let’s admit it — a little less pretentious, Poler Stuff opened up an entirely new avenue of inspiration for the things that we at Huckberry stand for, which is why the quirky brand felt like an obvious choice for an inclusion in our “Behind the Brand” series. This time around, we spent a day at the brand’s eclectic Portland office with Co-Founder and Creative Director Benji Wagner to learn about Poler’s mission, its inspiration, and what’s next for the future of #campvibes.

Huckberry x Red Oxx - Behind the Brand from Huckberry on Vimeo.
If you’re going to jump out of an airplane, you need a helluva lot of courage and absolute confidence in your gear. “Good enough” is absolutely not good enough. And as a Marine Corps parachute rigger in a former life, Red Oxx founder Jim Markel knows a thing or two about making sure that gear is going to do the job it needs to. The result is an American bag brand with an outrageously loyal fanbase that counts Huckberry co-founder Andy among its longtime supporters. To see why our boss was such a big fan, we packed our own Air Boss and set off for Billings, MT.

Silk Road Mountain Race No. 1 // Teaser from Silk Road Mountain Race on Vimeo.
The Silk Road Mountain Race is a fixed route, unsupported, cycling race through the mountains of Kyrgyzstan. It will follow gravel, single and double track and old soviet roads that have long been forgotten and fallen into disrepair. There will be very little tarmac. There may be some walking. At times there will be great distances between resupply points. The clock will not stop. There are no prizes.
The race will take place between the 18th of August and the 1st of September 2018 and will cover 1700 kilometers for around 26,000 meters of climbing. It's going to be very wild, an extremely tough but seriously rewarding experience for anyone who takes part.
Head over to silkroadmountainrace.cc to find out more about the race.

#Find_Away: Episode 4 - The Chamonix Experience from Patagonia on Vimeo.
Through the windows of the Aiguille du Midi cable car some of the most technical and high-consequence ski terrain in the world can be observed—for only the price of a ticket—but stepping through the door to put yourself at the top of one of those lines requires much more. In the this film by Bjarne Salén, Episode 4 in our Find Away series, skiers “American Dave” Rosenbarger and Kye Petersen mix years of mastery and an intuition for the rhythms of the unpredictable high alpine to get the full Chamonix experience.
