anyway the people who uphold samson as the kind of “good” former templar (as a foil to cullen, a “bad” former templar) tend to forget first that samson doesn’t help mages out of the goodness of his heart, he helps them in exchange for money to fuel his lyrium addiction. he quite literally would not help feynriel because he didn’t have the money. they also tend to forget that samson basically jumps at the chance to become a templar again, if hawke persuades cullen to allow it. and that during inquisition samson keeps a tranquil mage under the guise of some sort of sentimental companionship when he’s basically making him do research and work for him and corypheus (i say “work” loosely because i doubt this work came with any sort of compensation or benefit to maddox). criticize cullen if you want but please don’t act like samson is some sort of preferable answer to cullen’s faults lol.
