A quote from my poem "There's no Noise in Outerspace."
The god up there somehow knew we'd be bullshit humans. Building bridges and then burning some, letting ashes into our lakes. Fortifying skyscrapers for earthquakes. Voting an orange potato onto a presidential seat. Perhaps my lake is jampacked with the ashes of bridges i once thought meant love. Perhaps the sky has hated me for so long now for building walls too tall for her clouds to pass through. In fact, my lake overflows. The waters muddied with ashes and burnt pieces of bricks I carved love notes and initials in.

I wanted to ask her name but her silence has its way into your mouth. You speak to her in wavelengths or radio signals, it was music, i tell you. And I hear notes from Hale when I see her.

Dear Straight People, an open letter from a bisexual female.
My bisexuality isn’t an open invitation. You can’t RSVP two seats on my bed for you and your girlfriend. I am not two sticks and a stone that will magically spark up your dying hetero relationship. My sex isn’t porn, Imagining me sucking cock while holding a tit. Quite frankly, threesomes are tiring and I am exhausted. Stop making me temporary. As if my sexuality has an expiration date, ticking from the time I date either of the genders. Stop making me fractions of something. I am not half gay nor half straight. I am most definitely not an experiment. Quit making guinea pigs from my people. Let it be engrained in your minds that curiosity killed the cat.

Maybe if i met you in another time, I’d tell you everything about me. I’d tell you that my last tattoo is my zodiac sign on my hip. That it’s revenge pain for all the times this body invented scars way too big for my liking.

How my mother bathed me in medicated baths for rashes that never were there. Later on, I developed rashes for itches that never were there. It’s amazing how we bleed for things we think is part of us.

This is a poem about my grandmother, Mamila's food was the dance passed down from her mother to her. Her food an echo of the fiestas from back up in Pampanga, Where women made bullets out of crocodile meat and pork rinds; Where women hold their pride but never their voices like cigarettes with two good fingers. She who makes hija stand up while eating when hija sings on the table She says, my food isn't a karaoke for you to sing over it.

There is a box of your things in my room. A box mailed to me from the past, Except the return address is scratched off the label, The sender blackened by a sharpie mark, though, I know it was you. Because there’s no going back to the things that used to be.

There is a list of things I'm now terrified of since the day you left, carved in the ceiling above my bed. And I lay awake all night left to stare at them because they are one of the few reminders that you happened.

On religion.
‘Di ako religious whatsoever. Natatawa ako lagi sa mga Bible verses, binibigyan ko ng sakit ng ulo pastor namin. Pero 'di rin naman ako raging athiest; I’m deist. I just find the whole concept of religion such a scam. Mamamatay ka; your family prays that you end up w/ big guy. Suppose you do, you have to spend the rest of eternity praying to him some more(???) And its denominations are more confused with each other than they are with the meaning of feminism. Too much infighting, too much screaming, too much obsession with bread?

The susceptibilities to the MPDG role in dating.
I have grown to learn, taken from the experiences of dating college kids and beyond, that I attract boys who will eventually make me their MPDG. As for me, I, an intellectual, will sniff this out and break up with the guy. These boys got stars in their eyes thinking that the girls who make them happy are the ones for them. It’s like driving 100mph; you lose your peripheral vision and all you see is the road. Guys who do that are driving 100mph on the road of which is the girl they’re dating. All they see is the girl and all her bumps and edges. In addition, they’re also just rolling across them?? I guess if you think about it, no matter how fast you go, you will always be rolling on the person you date. Life lesson: don’t date and drive.
