Kabura-ya (鏑矢) is a Japanese arrow used by samurai in feudal Japan. Its sound was created by a specially carved bulb of deer horn attached to the tip. It was believed that it could chase away evil spirits before the battle. Video from @Rainmaker1973.

Today I went to the annual archery contest in Sanjūsangen-dō Temple in Higashiyama-ku, Kyoto! There was a lot of commotion on the spacious grounds of this temple. It wasn’t so cold, but still the warm food served in the court yard was delicious. Young ladies in kimono aiming high!
#I wanted to go there too!#but I was kinda busy this year#maybe I can make it next year#I want to go at least once

Yumi bow names Yumi (弓) is the Japanese term for a bow. As used in English, ‘yumi’ refers more specifically to traditional Japanese asymmetrical bows, and includes the longer daikyū (大弓) and the shorter hankyū (半弓) used in the practice of kyūdō and kyūjutsu, or Japanese archery. (Wikipedia)

Toh-shiya Archery Contest by WayneSan
Each year, twenty year old archers from all over Japan take part in this contest of archery which are normally held in Kyoto, while wearing colorful traditional clothing, to celebrate entering their adulthood. The contest originated in 1606, when a Samurai gave a demonstration of his archery prowess, shooting a hundred arrows in rapid succession the entire 120-meter length of the temple, hitting the target 51 times. This story inspired the annual archery contest.
