Happily Rented

Owner and Lynchburg area native Melanie Woods had a hobby early on of arranging flowers and selling them to restaurants and at the farmer’s market. This natural talent soon had her in high demand arranging flowers for local weddings. Discouraged with the vessels in which to arrange the flowers, Melanie looked for places where she could rent something she preferred.

With no luck seeking out attractive rentals, she began to purchase vases and containers. She couldn’t know that this would be the start of such a booming business; but she took a leap of faith and slowly began collecting other items she thought people would want to rent.

As her client base began to grow, so did her client’s needs. They wanted flowers, décor, and their rented spaces transformed which meant they also needed furniture.

Her collection began to fill the basements and garages of family members until Melanie was able to afford her own space. She shares, “The idea to start a rental business originated from a need but quickly grew into a passion. I really love the collection I have curated and am hoping my clients will also.”

There are no limits to the types of events for which Happily Ever After can provide rentals. Baby and wedding showers, college banquets, corporate events, birthday parties, proms, the Liberty University fashion show, the Freedom 424 gala, Children’s Ball gala, anniversary, graduation, and retirement parties, private dinners at home, Halloween parties, Christmas parties, booths at trade shows, garden shows, and bridal shows, real estate staging…they can literally do it all.

Their services include everything from providing, delivering and picking up the rentals to staging items for clients.

“We would love to provide specialty rentals for your next event. We work with all budget types. We work by appointment, so you can call or reach us by our website contact page to set up a time to meet,” Melanie assures.

The Columns - Not Just Your Mother’s Dress Shop!

The Columns-A Fashion Atrium is one of the largest and longest running boutiques in the area. Debra McCabe opened the shop in 1980 in its original location on Rivermont Avenue before settling down permanently in Forest.

While many Lynchburgers think of The Columns as “fancy”, the charming and vast boutique offers so much more. The clothing ranges from jeans and tee shirts to elegant evening gowns.

Debra explains, “Inventory is hand selected seasonally with very few pieces per style in order to maintain the uniqueness of each garment around town. It is highly unlikely you will meet someone else wearing the same outfit.”

The store offers a balance of classic, traditional pieces that have longevity and can be worn for years but also the latest looks and trends for the season.

“A great wardrobe is all about balance between functionality and fun!” Debra shares.

“We wholeheartedly believe in the "statement piece" but offer plenty of everyday items as well. We can dress you for grocery shopping or a formal gala at the White House and everything in between. We have styles suitable for all age groups. People tend to think of us as a "mature" store, but we aren't just your mother's dress shop!”

Debra is passionate about her boutique and shopping local and has a knowledgeable team that comes from a variety of backgrounds to assist her. Each team member contributes different tastes, experiences and opinions with clients and all share a love for fashion and encourage clients to try new things.

“We love to laugh. Fashion shouldn't be frightening, it should be fun!”

With Spring peeking around the corner, The Columns will be ready with on trend pieces in florals, linens, bright colors, black and white graphic patterns, and even palazzo pants. If you’re shopping for wedding attire, the boutique has you covered. Sizes range from 2-16 and the dress selection is extensive. “From a simple sundress befitting a casual garden party or a gorgeous ball gown for the most formal of weddings” there is something for everyone, Debra tells me.

She also shares, “So many times we hear stories of women who have ordered numerous dresses online and weren't happy with any of them. Then they start looking locally and find something perfect that they may not have even considered from a computer screen. Don't buy, ship, return, repeat. Visit us first!”

Get Glowing in the New Year
