Something I love about Hunters and Corruption is like
Up to this point, across five 2D games and two 3D ones, we knew that Samus was a bounty hunter. And if you actually read the NES manual, it specifically called bounty hunters out as being A Big Deal, the best way the Federation had to fight back against the space pirates before their own military was established, and still important enough to call on for the most serious cases now. But Samus still kinda existed in a vaccuum.
(Technically the Super Metroid comic had one, but he was just a big guy who had a blue chozo powersuit of his own for some reason, to my understanding.)
So it's really cool to see what kind of people are the closest things Samus has to peers now, and I like how varied they are. I've already gone on my big ramble about how the Hunters cast feel like toonami show action figures, and how much I sincerely love that about them. But I also wanna give some love to the Corruption trio too, who really embody that variety, and that idea of these like, Big Name powerhouses who operate outside of typical factional structures and don't fit any existing molds. They aren't Samus, but they are still people who you'd wince at seeing hired by the other side and be relieved to see on yours, people who take their briefings directly from fleet admirals.
Also something I appreciate about all of them? All aliens. I wish we'd see more of the Federation as the multi-species coalition the NES manual painted it as, but at least that spirit is still kept in an indirect sense with all nine of the other Hunters introduced so far. (I guess technically Sylux is an unknown, but still.) Wish I could sneak back in time and get @kosmonauttihai hired at Retro Studios circa 2005ish to implement that great Gandrayda redesign, though. But still!

You ever think maybe Samus having to fight evil clones of herself so often is like, a literal interpretation of her having to fight for self love? Like, that she gets moments where she blames herself for not saving certain people in her life and has to actively remind herself that it isn't her fault? That she's doing the best she can?
i could see it, especially with how Dark Samus is handled in Prime 3

metroid is about isolation
but metroid is also about learning to do trick jumps from random animals who celebrate when you get it right, and about saving them even as the planet shudders under your feet
and metroid is about lowering your gun when you meet the last of a species who's only just hatched, and gently holding out your hand
and metroid is about accidentally calling the name of someone you care about, who you thought you'd lost, and finding out they've been with you the whole time
and about a little scribble of a child with their parents tucked into the corner of a grand mural
and about the gifts left behind by others because they may be gone before they get to meet you, but that won't stop them from helping you
metroid is about love actually

whats the purpose of this blog. is it metroidposting, posting silly samus rps, or both. or is it the secret third option being this is just a personal blog where you do whatever the hell you want with it
originally i wanted to use this space to put down ideas for like. a metroid AU i've got in mind.
but since it is taking so long to brew anything coherent aside from scattered notes in a bunch of places on my computer, it has quickly become the home of the "metroid is about love" post, and that is just my legacy now haha

A response to my previous question: "Do you prefer the 2D games or the Prime games" (new to tumblr srry) Of the Prime Trilogy, which is your favorite? I think all of the games were awesome in their own way, but if I had to choose it would be Prime 1.
no worries! we're all new at some point
prime 1 is probably my favorite as well, if only because it's the one i'm most familiar with
i remember really enjoying watching prime 3 as well, though

@kitkitart: Do you prefer the prime trilogy or the 2D games?

I find it kind of fun that even though it’s not very explicit, magic seems to canonically exist in the Metroid universe. A sci-fi universe that also has supernatural forces beyond scientific understanding. The Chozo of Tallon IV gained the ability to see visions into the future, ghosts are a thing, lore on Bryyo talks about mages and wizards, Metroids feed on something only referred to as ‘life force’ but scientists can’t figure out what it is exactly. When a Metroid feeds on you it doesn’t remove any fluids or cause any trauma, but it removes something from you that’s implied to be spiritual, which kills you and turns you into dust.

i feel like, having been raised by the very spiritual late Chozo, that Samus would have an interest in other civilization's myths and folklore, which would include holiday traditions
even if the winter ones are less fun for her now that she's part metroid
