TriWeek2020 Day 7 - Aikotoba
Free day
Digimon Adventure Tri is my favorite season.
There, I said it.
Before you get angry at me, let me tell you why.
Digimon Adventure Tri handles everything differently than Adventure and 02 did. It handles problems that I have to deal with in everyday life.
Trying to reach everyone’s expectations, not knowing where to go in life, being too shy to go after your dreams, growing up too fast, and moving past grief and sorrow are all themes that Tri has. And let me tell you, I’ve had my fair share of dealing with these.
And in Tri, the problems that each kid faces aren’t fully solved. They don’t disappear after an inspiring conversation or beating a bad guy. Instead, the characters learn how to live with them.
Meiko and Maki are two characters who are great examples of this. Meiko learns to deal with Meicoomon’s death. She accepts their fate and moves past it. Maki, on the other hand, can’t let go. She sacrifices all the Chosen Children’s Digimon just to save Bakumon, who ends up rejecting her. In the end, Maki’s (probably) dead, and Meiko literally moved past the events by moving back to where she originally lived. These visual representations of handling your problems adds depth to Tri, Meiko, and Maki.
The show also gave personalities to characters who didn’t get to shine much in Adventure. Hikari and Takeru were two characters that weren’t given much time for us to see who they were. But in Tri, both had a prominent role that was executed perfectly. It was very satisfying in the end for me.
We also got to see Jyou and Koshirou stand up for themselves in Tri. Many times in Adventure, they are shown as shy or funny characters. But here, we saw Jyou tackle Dark Gennai in the fourth installment and Koshirou resisting Huckmon’s plan and finding a way to save everyone in the last installment.
Not only that, but Tri has many awesome aspects of it. The ship teases, outfits, music, and jokes are done very well. (Some minor pieces of the OST are dull, but it’s good overall). We were able to see everyone have an Ultimate form and Omegamon merciful mode, which were both fantastic to see. Seeing the old voice actors come back and new ones shine was great! And don’t even get me started on the songs! All the character songs and rehashes of Butter-fly, I Wish, Keep On, Seven, and Brave Heart are all amazing!
In the end, Tri was a great experience for me. Yes, there still are problems with it. There are many plot holes and the pacing goes crazy, but Adventure and 02 did have their fair share of problems too.
There will probably be a day where Digimon might not be that important to me. But, there will always be a place in my heart for this beloved series.
Thank you Tri, for everything.

Thank you to everyone for participating and sharing such amazing entries through the week!
I will still be following the tag for the next few weeks in case of any late contributions or submissions!
(Will also keep the blog around for hopefully more Digimon related events in the future, maybe a Adventure 2020 appreciation week in March-April?)

I just found out Digimon Tri Appreciation Week was a thing like five seconds ago
(This is what happens when you only come on Tumblr to check notifs)
BUT! To make up for my lack of Digimon-ness, a true story that has to do with Tri:
I had watched Reunion in the English sub at first because that’s all that was available. And I loved every second of it, because I never thought I’d be so lucky that new content with the Adventure cast would come out. (I was clearly wrong, but then, it had only been about three years at that point.)
When the dub came out, I was even more ecstatic. I’d found out that Joshua Seth had come back to voice Tai, who had become my favorite character in Digimon and in anything, as well as my husband.
You know that moment, the one where Agumon and Tai look at each other, and then they hugged?
The moment Agumon opened his mouth and said, “Hey, Tai!” I started crying. I couldn’t stop crying. I was so happy to hear Tom Fahn and Joshua Seth together again, two of the voices who had made me fall in love with Digimon that fateful summer of seventh grade.
I knew at that moment that I would always love Digimon, no matter what. And it’s all thanks to a wild-haired teenager and his little dinosaur.

Happy 5th Anniversay Tri
Before the day is over, wanna hear me gush about Digimon Tri? Today marks the 5th anniversary for the first film Reunion/Saikai, and ngl, a bit emotional thinking 5 years have already passed. You guys might have noticed lately all I post, write & share about is Digimon; and there’s been a couple of factors leading up to that. When Tri first came out, I was ecstatic, it had been about 14 years or so since we last had any canon content from Adventure. Growing up in Brunei, I don’t really remember catching Digimon on TV. What we did have were CDs, loads of them (RIP Mr.Speedy); and about 5 iterations of Digimon being dubbed. I’m not joking when I say I probably consumed Digimon in more than two languages/regional dubs; but I have very fond memories of that. The wasn’t the biggest on learning the Digilore until the late 2000’s when I had access to the internet and could binge the entire series on YT. When you’re a kid just watching Saturday morning cartoons, lore isn’t something you instantly flock towards. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I had a lot of gaps with how Digimon’s story went, what arc came after the last; why certain things were happening.
But I adored the characters, I fell in love with their dynamics and (without realising it at the time ‘cause I was fucking 5) complexities. I was a really imaginative kid, I had stories to tell and scribble about. When it came to Digimon, there was just something about it that gave that extra spark; made me want to create even more. The Digivolutions, the character designs, the colour palette of the cast : sure all of this was probably a marketing ploy to sell more toys. But looking back now, hands down, Digimon has got to be one of the most colourful and vivid shows of my childhood (like in terms of design etc. Again when you’re bloody 5 yrs old, you see pretty colours & movement on the screen and you’re entertained for hours) Obviously Tri has a lot of oopsies, plotholes & overall gives me a migraine when I think about certain aspects *cough* Meiko. Today 5 years ago, I was just starting my A-Levels. Needless to say it was a rough time, but whenever a new Tri movie came out; God I went ballistic. I mean that in a good way, watching Tri made me feel like a kid again. That being said, it wasn’t pure escapism from having to deal with clinical depression & overwhelming stress. Part of the charm of Digimon is that characters change, they actually grow up; and for all the 90’s/00’s kids - we got to grow up with them. Taichi and most of the Chosen Children were 17 during the run of Tri, I was fucking 16 yrs old. This isn’t the most planned out ‘essay’, if you can even call it that. I’ll prolly revisit this in the future & polish up on what I’m trying to say. But what I can say is that the Tri film series ignited that childhood joy of simply watching something cool and wanting to create something akin to ‘giant-monsters-battling-to-represent-the-emotional-development-of-these-group-of-mismatched-kids’.
I truly love Digimon more than words can express, but now that I’m 21, I am slightly more developed and can actually convey those words. This is a franchise that goes beyond enjoying a saturday morning cartoon. Happy 5th Anniversary Tri xx #TriWeek2020

Frantically playing catch up because I’m gone the rest of the weekend so here’s day 6 after all! Blatantly Takari. This one surprised me by how easy it was to write so it got a bit longer than the others. I’m sure there are many typos, please overlook. Also has two quotes, one in the text and one at the end, from my long-time favorite poet, Walt Whitman. BTW, I don’t really get everything that went down with Ordinemon, but I did my best to fit canon.
One month post-Bokura no Mirai, Takeru and Hikari go on a date and Hikari encounters something unexpected, which leads to a very overdue conversation with her brother.
Warning - there’s mention of the death of sick baby. It’s not huge but it matters to the story. I don’t want to shock anyone.
Tri week day 6 - Journeys - Death of a Comet
“How are you?” Takeru asked, watching her carefully.
Hikari only smiled and pretended not to notice. “I thought we’d known each other long enough to skip the niceties, Takeru-kun,” she quipped. It was a far cry from her old playfulness, she knew, but she also knew he wasn’t going to call her out for it it just yet.
“Oh, I’m sorry.” Takeru rolled his eyes with an exaggerated, put-upon sigh. “I didn’t realize relationship length was proportionate to amount of shits given.”
“It is, at least when the last time we talked was an hour ago over text.”
“Duly noted.”
“Let’s go?”
He nodded. He was wearing another hat she’d never seen before, a dark blue beret that looked about to tip off the side of his head with a light breeze. She wondered if he went out and bought a new hat each time before they went out together. Like how a girl shouldn’t be caught in the same outfit twice. He probably did. That was Takashi Takeru, vain as fuck. But there was also something kind of adorable about it.
They’d “officially” been dating for a couple weeks, and Hikari wasn’t sure yet how she felt about it. Of course, she’d agreed to it when he asked her. What else could she do? They’d been flirting and toying with each other off and on for years, in a childish way, but she couldn’t pretend she didn’t know full well what she was doing. She’d even sometimes daydreamed about what dating him would be like. Mostly she imagined it would be a lot of sitting in the bleachers at his basketball games.
She didn’t consider Takeru the most mature of the boys in their year, but he wasn’t as bad as some. Plus, they’d been through a lot together, so she knew what he was made of. And he really liked her. And she liked him. It seemed unavoidable. She’d said yes because she had no good reason for saying no.

TriWeek2020 Day 6 - Favorite Character from Tri
Daisuke Motomiya ftw!
All jokes aside, I love every character from Tri. All their character development was amazing. And even though it did focus on Taichi and Yamato a lot, I felt like it did give every character something that fans could relate to or sympathize with. Yes, even Daigo, Maki, and Meiko all had development that I enjoyed seeing and was satisfying in the end.

I fell asleep so here’s day 5 a bit late to party… Day 6 will surely be late too xP Again, thanks for the comments last time, I enjoyed them, even the ones hidden in tags haha.
Koushirou and Taichi have a talk post-Bokura no Mirai. Watch out, cuz both boys have mouths on them. Taishiro if you squint.
Tri week day 5 - Survival - Making Miracles
Taichi decided to come over after school that day, and as Koushirou had spent the day at the office, that meant Taichi came there to hang out. He spread out on the couch, flipping through the pages of some comic book. Koushirou was at his desk. They had a bottle of cold oolong each and a shared bowl of shrimp crackers. The only noise came from out the window, the muffled din of rush hour traffic in the Tokyo streets below.
To some it might look like they were ignoring each other, each occupied in separate activities, only looking up to acknowledge that there was someone else in the room now and then when their hands bumped reaching into the shrimp cracker bowl. But their friendship worked like this. In fact, if the long stretches of silence bothered Taichi at all, he would have ditched Koushirou way back in elementary school. But that was something about Taichi not everyone understood: that he could get as wrapped up in his own head as Koushirou did. Sometimes it even seemed like Taichi sought him out because he wanted to think, and he wanted someone else to be there while he was thinking, but not Yamato, who would want to add his own input, and not Sora, who would stay quiet but hold herself still with tension until he finally said something to put her concerns to rest. Koushirou, at least, understood what it was like to need privacy for his thoughts, even if he didn’t quite get why Taichi still wanted another body there anyway.
So it came as something of a surprise when Taichi unexpectedly shattered the silence, the pages of the comic book pausing between his fingers mid-turn, his gaze fixed on a random spot on the coffee table. “I’m never going to know if it was a mistake or not, am I,” he said.
Koushirou looked up and Taichi straightened, throwing his arms over the back of the couch in a deceptively casual move, but turned his head toward the door, obscuring Koushirou’s view of his face.
Often Koushirou was so involved in his work that, even if Taichi did make some comment, he’d answer with a vague “Hmm,” and later be unable to remember saying anything. It drove Mimi up the wall, but once again, Taichi never seemed to mind that much. Koushirou was pretty sure he sometimes took advantage of it to insist Koushirou had agreed to things he couldn’t recall ever discussing. Of course, most of the comments were along the lines of “Look at the cool play this soccer star made,” or “Can you believe Satou-sensei expects us to finish the group project by tomorrow?” and “Hmm” was, more or less, all the response needed.
He didn’t have any illusions that Taichi was talking about a mistake on a practice exam this time.
