Final Assignment
@necsocialmedia I will miss this class. TBH i thought it was going to be a silly stupid class. I am so happy to have been wrong. I learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely!
Publix – Where Shopping is a Pleasure
The brand I am representing today is Publix. Publix is a grocery store. As you see from my title, their slogan is, “Where Shopping is a Pleasure.” Publix has what I call a on the DL social media presence. They don’t make it flashy, they are simply there.
I do not really see grocery stores as having a big media presence. I don’t think it is necessary in their line of business. You have to have groceries, so it isn’t as necessary to have a huge media presence. They do better with the app business. Like daily coupons and weekly ads. Word of mouth is better than any social media presence they might want. There are two reason you pick a grocery store over the other. The first is price and the second is customer service.
Their overall social media use? The normal, Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. From what I see they are pretty active on all three.
Their strategy is pretty simple, to get you, the consumer involved. Whether it is inviting you for a hoagie on National Hoagie Day or clever ideas for Mom on her special day. Their Twitter asks you to leave a story or ask a question. They make use of the hashtags as well. #MothersDay #NationalHoagieDay #Publix.
Publix has a quiet social commerce strategy. I think they do this on purpose, as I stated above, they prefer the word of mouth effect of commerce. Don’t get me wrong they have their share of commercials. The commercials are on point for their target audience. Mothers and families. For the most part, it is the mothers that do they grocery shopping, what better way to get them in your store is through a tear jerker commercial? The recipes and other ideas are great for families.
With being a chain of grocery stores, I do not see them with a big relationship with any company. I see them more invested with families and their employees. They encourage employees and customers to share their stories, good or bad. If they are bad, they are dealt with within minutes.
I found one review from a woman named Liz that states, “What's special about this publix? I had someone try to help me find an exotic spice, even googling it. They made sure that I could get everything on my list, even if it wasn't found at their store. Awesome.”

More I love @Publix. I got home and found about $6.00 worth of coupons in my pocket. They let me get credit the next time I came back it. #Publix
New poll says that Publix has the third best reputation among US Companies. The Polk County Sheriff’s office, says, way to make your hometown proud!
Hey Publix!! We love the new Lake Placid store!! #fanphotoplease #publix#welovepublix
Just some random shoppers, expressing their love for their new Publix!
"Where shopping is a pleasure." Publix Especially when they give your 2 year old and 1 year old a free cookie 🍪 to keep them busy/happy while mommy shops. #MomLife #Publix #Shopping#GroceryShopping #Cookies
One of the things the Publix bakery has always done, is give free cookies to kids. It is a wonderful little treat! For the most part, the reviews are all very complimentary. You will always have nay sayers in any industry you are in, but I think Publix is known for their customer service and it shows by people that return every day. Reviews online can be good, however being in customer service I know that you usually only review something to say negative things about the company. I was hard pressed finding bad reviews on Publix. I went to Yelp, Twitter and Facebook. They are either doing a great job at customer service or hiding their negative reviews.
Overall, Publix has the social media thing down. They have the customer help page as well as the regular page. I can see that if someone had a problem, it was taken care of. People love Publix and it shows. I cannot tell you how many of my friends showed pictures of their subs (hoagies) with the #publix and #yummy and all sort of funny hashtags.
I like the way Publix keeps the social media presence to a minimum. They don’t have to be in your face and flashy to get your attention. They do it simply by being nice and friendly. Publix is indeed, a pleasure to shop at.

Klout Score
My Klout score lowered to 51. I think the reason for it lowering was because it jumped up so high at first. The only social media I used at the time was Facebook and Instagram. When I added Tumblr and Twitter, it jumped up to 64. At 51 I think it evened itself out. I discovered that I really like Tumblr and will probably stay quite active on it. I think I stayed pretty active with the class and Professor McPherson. I enjoyed meeting new people.

Followers/Pages
The only new followers i have are the ones from the class. Without a doubt the category of Twitter users I follow are political, leaning towards the left. Just in case that was in question. lol I also follow a lot of no death penalty advocates.

Although this was not an assignment, I think it took off more than the other because it asked everyone, what they were doing. Not everyone got involved, but some did answer. Even though the original tweet was not mine, I do take credit for getting it going.

#myNECslogan @NECSocial I want to be as funny as the person tweeting for Wendy's #goals #stillprettyfunny
I think this received the most tweets, because it was week one and everyone wanted to make sure they liked at least one. I also think it received the most because, it was pretty funny if I do say so myself. I think everyone has seen the Wendy’s twitter responses, so it was recognizable.

I still say she is a journalist...of sorts
Arianna Huffington
Does this journalist appeal to you because you are a digital immigrant or a digital native? Why? I like her because she is a digital immigrant, like me. One who became very tech savvy as a way to help herself and in the beginning, others.
Include the number of followers the journalist has on Twitter. 2.66 million people follow her on Twitter.
Based on the number of followers, do you think the journalist has a lot of online influence? Do you think the journalist is savvy on social media? If so, why? If not, why? She is very media savvy. She knew what she was doing when she created a site from a blog. As an anti-Drudge report.
Does this journalist help market their news organization online? Oh yes she does. Even though she sold Huffington Post, she keeps her being the co founder of the site on her Twitter.
I get what you are saying Professor McPherson, that she isn’t what we normally look at when we think of a reporter. I think she is because of the beginnings of The Huffington Post. She started as a retort to the right wing drudge report and began reporting things on there. This is why I didn’t change who I had picked. That and well I’m stubborn and I like her. <3

Fake News 2016 Election
Hillary Clinton created ISIS..I wish that could be my only sentence, because really? Please tell me people do not believe that. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Or that Pope Francis endorsed Trump, because he did not. You could not mire through the muck enough to really get through the election. It saturated everything we watched, listened to and talked about. The incredulity that Trump actually got nominated. The anger when the Republicans cowed down to him and didn’t stand up for their party. No matter what you did, something was going on with the election that HAD to be talked about. The fake news was plenty, but do I think Mark Zuckerburg and Facebook are to blame? Maybe partially culpable, but not fully to blame. I think we as American owe it to ourselves not to be sucked in by media claims and learn to think for ourselves. So while Facebook and other social media outlets gave us the fake news, we need to hold ourselves responsible for the predicament we are in now with this President. We need to do our homework, so to speak, before we post things that are erroneous. While a meme is funny, a news story leads credence to the truth and that is why I think people are blaming Mark Z. and Facebook for the election fiasco. I think it’s silly to blame no one but our collective selves for letting a pompous, sexist, racist (I’m trying to think of a nice word) person hold the most powerful position in the world.
