A costume saved my online order
I've seen tons of stories recently about boxes from online shopping being broken into during delivery.
That happened with my last order. The delivery guy handed it to me facing the other way. I only saw the opened corner when I turned the box. So I filmed myself unboxing it in case stuff was missing since I did buy electronics which seem to get stolen the most. But on top of everything was a costume I bought for carnival, obscuring the other contents.
I believe the silly costume saved the rest of my order. Thank you costume!

Occasional Reminder that I have a Patreon!
What is available at this Patreon, you might ask? A patreon that I would ask you to sign up for through the patreon website and NOT the app store because of some fee fuckery?

access to the archived Nine (boys who are books and useless lesbian magical girls)*
Monthly crowdsourced storytime
For all paid members (starting at $1.00 USD)
Monthly Pinup polls
First access to any new published works
Access to discord where I will yell at you for tying up the polls.
For Bonus tier members ($3.00 USD) everything above plus
Access to monthly installments of the current serial, Crow[n] of Crow[s] - a supernatural noir adventure
Access to previous serials like Fox and Quill (queer regency shapeshifter romance!)
For Draft tier members ($5.00 USD) everything above plus
Access to the first draft of my current in-progress novel, Gallowglass (post-post apocalyptic roadtrip to save the world as they know it, featuring sentient aerogel and angry cactus man)
For Noir tier members ($10.00 USD), everything above plus
Monthly sketch requests
Bi-annual free commission requests (for $120.00/year you get a commission of one figure, line art six months and one year after your start date. Additional figures/complexity will be at additional rates.)**
For Guard tier members ($25.00 USD) everything above plus
Quarterly free commission requests (for $300.00/year you get four commissions of one figure, simple color - every three months after your start date. Additional figures, etc. will be at additional rates. )**
(*You might also ask, why is KoH and the Nine free? Because I originally posted KoH on Ao3 and originally shared the Nine for free on Tapas. It doesn't seem right to put them behind a paywall now!)
(**Comms are cheaper than i would normally charge because of the consistency of support!

Quick Vent
I teach the same course as a male colleague, just at a different time slot. Since we cover the same topics, we decided to work together on the exams. I have no chill and usually prepare them way in advance, preferring to have them as the definite goal to reach.
Most of my colleagues have a different approach of "don't even start creating an exam until you're two lessons from the date". That allows for an exam that is tailored to the stuff you taught vs my approach of tailoring what I teach to fit the exam.
Both are valid takes.
BUT they inevitably clash when two people with those habits collaborate.
I did everything for the first exam, created the exercises, found suitable texts, set up master solutions, did the layout and organized it with the department. My colleague was at an excursion that week.
All that's fine. That is me working to me standard and also saying to my colleague that he's 100% in charge of the re-take exam. Fair, right?
He ended up using material that I suggested for the first exam but then discarded for a better alternative and for the coup de grace, presented me with a set of questions that were AI generated. It was obvious. And bad. And above all, they were not questions that would function in a real exam. Worst thing (I thought at that point) was that he should have recognized that instantly, had he read through the question set he gave me. Which means that either he didn't even read the AI schlock he gave me to check or is unable to recognize it as the garbage it is.
I highlighted all the unusable questions (more than half), asked him if he used AI and then he said he'd do it again, properly.
A few days later he sent me a mail with a revised set, telling me he'd spent a couple of hours on them.
They were better but still not in a state to be used
Hours? Why did it take you hours for this task? You taught that course three times before. How is that not a skill you can perform in a reasonable amount of time?
And the absolute kicker? He's in the process of dropping the ball on the organization as well. The date is fixed. I cannot supervise the exam because I teach at that same time. I made that clear to him and the department. He has two days to fix this.
He's more senior than me. Because of that he gets paid more than me. He should be ashamed of his lack of skills/effort.
I'm extra frustrated because I had to do the same kind of stuff last year as well. The difference was that those colleagues admitted that our styles didn't mesh, supplied material to use, took over 100% of the organizing effort and thanked me.
Not so quick, after all, it turns out. I've been bottling this up apparently longer than I realized.
Vent over!

Hubris got to me:
I wanted to dye my hair today and used a new box dye, from a different brand.
Usually you have a bottle with an applicator, then you put in powder from a sachet and shake, then you put in cream from a tube, like from oil paints. You have to puncture it with the back of the cover, too.
I opened the bottle, put in the powder and shook. Then I opened the tube and even thought: "Huh, a screw top, that's new." I squeezed in all of the cream. Then I looked into the bottle, expecting to see the white cream. This one was light purple.
"Oh neat, must be new, looks exactly like the conditioner......oh."
Yes, I squeezed in the conditioner.
But I didn't want to go to the shop for a new one, didn't want to waste this one and said fuck it. I squeezed in the cream on top. Mixed it really thoroughly and applied it anyway.
Let's see what I did to my hair.
I had planned to dye it pink tomorrow.
Where's the shrug stick figure emoji?

(through gritted teeth) sometimes what's good for your mental health isn't another do nothing day or a little treat sometimes what's good for you is putting in some of the work. Not all of it at once but sometimes you have to finish that essay or at least take the next step or you have to clean your room or at least dust the shelves or you gotta do the laundry or at least put it all in the hamper and it's not fun and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks and it sucks but you have to because i read a post on the internet that told me that's what being nice to yourself is sometimes
