One of my favorite pieces created for 2-D design. We were tasked to use the collage medium to create a self portrait. This design was based off a reoccurring dream I had four nights in a row. I was walking through the woods looking for something but not sure what that something was. I found a door unattached to any walls. When I open it, it lead to a large empty room, reminiscent of a cathedral. There was a woman on the other side of the room who I could barely see. Without opening her mouth she said “Reveal yourself to me”. On the second night she said “Why won’t you show yourself?”. I told her I didn’t know who I was and she told me not to come back until I do. On the third night I came back and she wasn’t there. I walked up to where she was in the other dreams where there was a large pool of water. When I looked into it I saw something similar to the image I created in the collage. On the fourth night when I open the door there were three women. The ones on the right and left I recognize as the women from the first two dreams. But the one in the middle was a unfamiliar. As I got closer I realized she was the version of myself that I saw in the pool of water. As far as style, I’m really inspired by the layout of tarot cards and I often tend to reference tarot in my work. Thank you @claranauts for the photo. Happy Mental Health Month, Tumblr!

Mental Health is important. With May being Mental Health Month, we want to take this opportunity to not only facilitate discussions on mental health but also to help those who aren’t familiar with mental health issues and coping strategies learn how to navigate these choppy waters.

For many people, discussing mental health issues was not a welcomed topic in their childhood home. Whether you come from families whose cultural values didn’t totally align with your own, or you felt unsafe discussing who you really are—we see you. No matter if you’re just starting on your mental health journey or have been tackling it for some time, you should be proud of your accomplishments thus far.

All month long Post It Forward will be sparking dialogue surrounding four big issues many people—especially young people—face today: eating disorders, anxiety, addiction, and suicide. 

This will be tough. For some, it will be really tough. But it’s important that we let people know it is okay to be open and honest with your personal struggles.

If you don’t want to see these posts, don’t worry. We got you. We’ll be putting content warnings in all of our tags, and, you can easily filter them from your dashboard with our filtering tool. You have total control over what you see (and don’t see).
