Starting my December reading with a tale set on Halloween night in 1984. Yes, please. All Hallows by @christopher_golden will be out January 24, 2023 from @stmartinspress *Joey is snuggled up and ready for a reading session. For review for @horrordna Synopsis: It’s Halloween night, 1984, in Coventry, Massachusetts, and two families are unraveling. Up and down the street, secrets are being revealed, and all the while, mixed in with the trick-or-treaters of all ages, four children who do not belong are walking door to door, merging with the kids of Parmenter Road. Children in vintage costumes with faded, eerie makeup. They seem terrified, and beg the neighborhood kids to hide them away, to keep them safe from The Cunning Man. There’s a small clearing in the woods now that was never there before, and a blackthorn tree that doesn’t belong at all. These odd children claim that The Cunning Man is coming for them...and they want the local kids to protect them. But with families falling apart and the neighborhood splintered by bitterness, who will save the children of Parmenter Road? All Hallows. The one night when everything is a mask... https://www.instagram.com/p/CluoV88LGUS/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

“You know how many bodies turn up down there? Think how many we DON’T find. Miles and miles of tunnels under there, huge cisterns and open rooms where all those bodies might end up, tangling together, rotting together. Now son, let me ask you this. Ever heard of a rat king?”

Locals call her The Hag. She hates this, but understands why they say it. She’s a humanoid hagfish that looks like a decayed, water-logged corpse. She’s been around for a long time. She wasn’t always like this. She floats face down and waits for people to jump in her pond to drown. her long hair drifts behind her, coated in a thick slime that paralyzes anything that comes in contact with it.

So, I write books. They're queer horror.
A couple of them have won awards.
https://www.haileypiper.com/
Most of them have audiobooks if that's your thing (same 🤘)
One's getting a movie, but I'll post about that separately. 💜
Make horror gay AF 🌈

Intro!! I suppose the best way to start a Tumblr is to just do it. I teach. I read. I review. I’ve met some truly great people because of books and social media; the intersection of the two has brought about lasting friendships. I’m hoping this tumblr gives me one more place to both find new books as well as to shout about the books I love. There may also be random bits of teaching posts, horror movies, or about my dog, Joey, so follow at your own risk.
I read all kinds of books but I definitely gravitate towards horror, speculative fiction, nonfiction, romance, and so on. I’m a part of the Horror Spotlight group (formally Ladies of Horror Fiction) which is dedicated to lifting up diverse/marginalized horror authors and creators. I review for Horror DNA and I’m a staff reviewer and slusher for Apex Magazine. You may have even seen some of my reviews in Rue Morgue magazine. All of this is just so damn cool; I’m just a 43 year old book nerd and never thought I’d have the opportunity to share what I love with a wider audience.
I’ll see you around the stacks. If you see me committing any egregious tumblr errors, do let me know. I am learning new tricks, and all that. To close - here are my absolute favorite reads from 2021. See any you love or any on your TBR?
