Vagabond Motel, 1919 Fremont St. – c. 1953, 1960s (1) The motel opened in 1953. This postcard shows a middle building that was demolished in the 50s. The country record dates “building no. 3” to the mid ‘30s. Whether that is the left, center (demolished), or right wing is unknown. The business or residence prior to Vagabond, unknown.
(2) c. late 1960s. One or both of the center buildings were added in ‘60 according to the county assessor’s record.
Vagabond changed names in the late 90s. The lower portion of the 1960s sign is in use.

The magicians and their unpredictable cheetah Chico had joined the cast of the Stadust’s Lido de Paris in 1970. These photos were taken around the premiere of Russo’s late night show, Welcome to My Lifestyle, KSHO-TV-3 in Las Vegas. Russo, who the show’s PR called an, “eccentric young millionaire,” by his own account began visiting in Las Vegas as a teenage courier for Frank Costello in the late 50s and was still working for Costello in the late 60s when he operated Gianno Russo’s Wig World at 1431 E Charleston.

The Country Club, developed by Dalitz, Roen, Molasky, Adelson, was completed in 1967 on the site of former Las Vegas Park racetrack. The following hear the International Hotel began construction on the property on the far right. The monorail was build on this part of Paradise Rd in the early 00s. Anna Bailey, Moulin Rouge, Las Vegas, 1955
Producer Clarence Robinson hired Anna Bailey as one of the lead dancers, and her husband William “Bob” Bailey, as singer and emcee of the Moulin Rouge’s Tropi Can Can Revue. After the closure of the hotel, the Bailey’s remained in Las Vegas, living in the Bonanza Village section of the Westside. Anna was later hired for the house chorus line at the Flamingo Hotel. After ending her dance career she became one of the first black women in Nevada to hold a gaming license. Bailey in 2020
