Chapter one of part two is finally here!!

Finally got back into writing after a bit of hiatus. Updates will be sporadic depending on what I have going on in life. But I'm so excited to be continuing this story with the Tower fam

I never see templates with parents/kids, so I had to do this one. Also included the full portrait of the kids (they got it taken for their mom and dad's 30th anniversary.)

Dang it's been a while since I colored anything. These are based off two random throwaway lines in chapters 16 and 17 of Beauty From Ashes. The first one takes place in January while the second is in May on Debbie's third birthday (about two weeks before Isaac was born.)

Quick sketches based on Chapter 16 of Beauty From Ashes, which is probably one of my favorite chapters I've written. I love portraying Abe as a protective and loving husband and father. It's a good contrast to the more intimidating persona he has in GUN.

A few scrapped ideas from "Beauty From Ashes"

There were a few things in some of the later chapters that didn't make it into the final version. Some may show up in the sequel

In Chapter 14, Debbie was supposed to get a birthday card from Abraham's friend Marcello in Soleanna. This would prompt Abraham to think about how he wanted to bring the family back for a visit. I had to cut this because the chapter was getting too long, but the Towers will return to Soleanna in the future.

In the same chapter, there was a part where Sarah's mother, Lorraine, talked about how she started dating someone for the first time since her husband's tragic death. There was also a little bit about how Sarah's parents met (I've only implied it so far, but this would've explicitly stated that Lorraine was a teen mom.) I didn't have much of an idea for the love interest other than having him possibly be a Mobian. I decided to save this for later on.

At one point, I was going to include a part where Abraham stops seeing his therapist because of a certain part of his past he's forbidden from talking about. I won't reveal too much (even though it's obvious), but this will come into play for part two.

Chapter 15 had a part where Henry came over during dinner. He and his wife were about to have their first kid, so he sought some advice from Abraham. There was also a bit where they reminisced about how nervous Abraham was before Marianne was born. I ended up deleting it because it took too much focus away from Abraham's relationship with the girls, which was ultimately what the chapter was about. We will for sure see Henry's son in the future.

Chapter 16 was originally much different. It was going to focus on Candace and Debbie getting into a fight, which ended with one of their father's vinyl records getting destroyed. Marianne being sick with pneumonia was a last minute idea I had that I ended up liking better. The second half with Abraham and Sarah would've been similar.

Chapters 17 and 18 were originally one chapter. I kept a lot of the same story beats but, due to the nature of Isaac's birth, I decided it would work best as a two-parter. The complication that led to Sarah having a C-section changed a couple of times but I did wind up going with my original idea for it in the end. The one part I miss is a bit at the beginning where Sarah got intense nesting urges that made her clean the house multiple times over. And every time Abraham tried to intervene, she'd give him a death glare.

Yep, I lied. Here's Chapter 18!

I was going to wait but I was just too excited about this one for obvious reasons. The final chapter of part one will actually take a while. My goal is to have that one out before I go away on vacation in August. After that, I'm going to take a short writing break before I start part two.

Yeah, I had some extra time and a huge burst of inspiration over these past few days that made me finish several chapters at once. The next one probably won't be out for a little bit, so of course this one's going to end on a cliffhanger.

Chapter 16 is out, and I have a small announcement

I'm going to be splitting "Beauty From The Ashes" into two separate fics. I realized when working on this chapter and the ones coming up that I've reached a good midpoint in the story. Because a ton of major stuff is going to happen to the Towers after the birth of their youngest child, I decided to end this part at Chapter 20 to let the rest of the story breathe on its own. I will reveal more once I post the final chapter. Until then, enjoy Abe taking care of his sick child.

One thing I've discovered when writing my current fic that it's so satisfying to write the Tower kids aging. The eldest was a literal embryo in the first chapter and, in the chapters I'm working on now, she's an independent and opinionated preteen. The fic is going to end with her being an adult woman with a child of own and I'm gonna be emotionally wrecked when I get to that point.
