Prompt: Potter's Always Know

Harry James Potter grew up in a world split in two. There was the land of the Pure, where blood supremacy and magic ruled all. Voldemort ruled Pure, and had fashioned himself as the second coming of Merlin to his fanatic followers. He controlled an army known as Death Eaters who enforced his rule with lethal force.

The other side, where Harry and his family lived was known as the Coalition. In the Coalition, all creatures tried their best to live in equality and harmony. The border between the two lands was barren of almost all life, and under constant watch by both sides as they tried to expand their terrorities.

It was in this tense cold war that the word came to Coalition that Draco Malfoy, current heir apparent to Voldemort was going to choose his second wife from a notorious muggleborn auction. The opportunity to capture such a valuable prisoner couldn’t be missed by the Coalition.

Under the tutelage of his father, James Potter, and his father’s friends Harry was the best combat mage of the Coalition’s forces and was chosen to infiltrate the auction and capture Malfoy. He had backup hiding in the perimeter surrounding the establishment but he would need to pull Malfoy out into the open on his own.

Harry had the utmost confidence in his abilities and sat in the darkened atmosphere of the exclusive club hosting the auction in a relaxed manner, leaning back against his seat with his legs stretched out. A dark red hood covered his face, and flowed down in a luxurious robe, its cost unmistakable but not remarkable in a place that catered to the ultra-wealthy.

In the shadows, his eyes darted around keeping track of all the occupants and looking for his quarry. He didn’t pay attention to the wizard who stepped forward to start the introductions of the captive muggleborns. His father had told Harry stories before the magical war had split the world in two - a time when muggles had been unaware of the magic that lived alongside them. When muggleborns had been treated like dirt upon pureblood’s shoes.

But that was a world Harry didn’t know. His world was the Coalition, where muggles worked alongside wizards - and muggleborns were so prized that the Purebloods captured them as infants and raised them to be auctioned into families and adopted or married. The reason muggleborns were so prized was due to a magical disease that caused pureblood relations to be barren.

Draco Malfoy had married Astoria Greengrass - but that pureblood alliances wouldn’t carry on their lines - so witches and wizards in the Pure used muggleborns as second spouses to ensure the continuity of their lines.

Harry had to steel himself against paying attention to the muggleborns being sold off and focus only on his mission - ultimately that would save all the muggleborns in Pure - not just the ones being auctioned tonight - or that’s what he kept reminding himself of as witches were lead to the center of the stage of and displayed.

But then she was led out. And Harry recognized the person he had been waiting for all his life.

There was an audible ripple of whispers throughout the club as a woman wearing a dark blue dress was pulled to the center of the stage. She had dark brown curly hair down to her waist and her eyes were narrowed with anger – and her mouth was missing.

Harry’s eyes narrowed on the stage as he observed the witch had been silenced with the Oscausi charm. It was a dark charm used to silence a victim, and their mouth literally disappeared.

��I’m sure our next muggleborn needs no introduction.” The announcer paused with a wide smile as there were scattered laughs in the crowd. “She’s powerful, smart, and will undoubtedly produce children that will carry any bloodline far.” The announcer ran the tip of his wand along the woman’s arm. “Now let’s open bidding for Hermione Granger!”

Harry’s target stood up, his wand lit at the end. Draco Malfoy’s pale coloring made him unmistakable. “Ten thousand galleons.”

“Malfoy.” The announcer bowed in his direction. “Ten thousand galleons.” There was silence and the announcer prompted. “Will no one—”

“Fifty thousand galleons,” Harry said firmly. The plan had changed. Fuck Malfoy. Fuck the war. Fuck the Pures. That witch on the stage was his soulmate, and he was leaving with her no matter what.

FEBUWHUMP 2025 PROMPT LIST

this year's prompts were chosen through an open suggestion poll (in which we received over 4,000 prompts) and a subsequent vote, where 5,019 votes were submitted. the top 28 make up the core prompts, and the febuwhump mod's favourites that remain have become the alternates. the first prompt in the 28, "vocal chords", was our number one prompt of the vote, with 1,625 total votes.

i am so insanely excited to see what you all create with these prompts, and i hope they're inspiring enough to trigger a whole month's worth of creativity for you!

as an extra added challenge, some creators will be undertaking another, smaller goal, of including apples in each of their prompt fills as an ode to the wildly popular prompt suggestion of "apples" that didn't make it through to the poll. this is totally optional, but is a good extra challenge if you'd like to take part in it!
