to have faith in a god who is proven to exist yet who leaves all of your prayers unanswered is a tough feat. sometimes, when there is nothing left, you must push through and convince yourself that your god will eventually give you a chance. you must train your muscles to form a smile and your tounge to preach the good word on your darkest days. after long enough it becomes second nature. you grip the rosary at your chest and your lips move on their own.

your rosary soon becomes a token not only of your religion, but of yourself. of your hope and of your heart. you replace the heart ache you felt knowing your prayers were echoing in an endless void with a wider smile and a sharper tounge, to entice god into favouring you. you preach the good word to anyone who will listen.

of course, anyone who will listen will observe you and wonder why you keep your faith. you clearly have not been treated kindly by this god you love so dearly.

you hand out rosaries to your closest friends; enthusiastically promising them that this is the key to salvation. you find beads scattered over the path to the church later that day. must be a coincidence.
