The history of humanity. The history of art, literature and music. The history of evolution itself. All have been presented to us as objective facts. But the reality is, these facts have been lying to us. They have all been distorted by a failure to account for half of humanity – not least by the very words we use to convey our half-truths. This failure has led to gaps in the data. A corruption in what we think we know about ourselves. It has fuelled the myth of male universality. And that is a fact. -- Invisible Women: Data Bias in a World Designed for Men

Found myself in the area so I made my way over to Lekka Burger to try them out. It was good, but after years of eating Beyond or Impossible burgers, this one definitely tasted like a vegan burger, ya know? It still had a good savory flavor, but the texture was unmistakeably vegan. I wanted to try out their shake or soft serve, but as luck would have it, the ice cream machine was broken today.

Before all else, the Gospel invites us to respond to the God of love who saves us, to see God in others and to go forth from ourselves to seek the good of others. All of the virtues are at the service of this response of love.

Practicing niksen could be as simple as just hanging around, looking at your surroundings or listening to music — “as long as it’s without purpose,” she says, and not done in order to achieve something or be productive.

Innocence is both a privilege and a cognitive handicap, a sheltered unknowingness that, once protracted into adulthood, hardens into entitlement.... The ironic result of this innocence...is that whites are 'unable to understand the world that they themselves have made.'

Christmas movie # 21: Godmothered (Seen on Disney+)
Batch posting well after Christmas, but I have to document (even if only to myself) that I actually accomplished what I set out to do.
Godmothered is not new territory--fish out of water fairy godmother tries to fix up life of a young girl, now older woman/mom, and prove herself worthy to other godmothers in doing so. And hey, it’s based in Boston!
I wish they made it so this was based in the same universe as Enchanted. As it is, Isla Fisher has great comedic timing, and having Gary the Raccoon as their house helper was really funny. Other things fell flat ‘cause it was so predictable, and not even in the fun Disney way.
Christmas movie #22-23: Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas and Mickey’s Twice Upon a Christmas (Seen on Disney+)
Each movie is a vignette of shorts about the central Disney characters: Mickey, Minnie, Donald & Daisy (and Duck family), and Goofy and family. In Twice Upon a Christmas, I had forgotten that period where Disney liked animating everybody 3D, which isn’t terrible, but it’s weird.
Christmas movie #24: Dash and Lily, episode 1 (Seen on Netflix)
I was already cheating at this point ‘cause I was running out time, so this isn’t a movie, but rather the first episode of the series.
Cute, kinda hipster pretentious (I mean, hiding clues in the Strand? pffft), but it made me feel nostalgic for previous holiday seasons when there were actual Christmas markets in Union Square and we didn’t have to wear masks everywhere.
Christmas movie #25: Dragons: Gift of the Night Fury (Seen on Netflix)
Now really, I was desperate here. This is part of the Dreamworks holiday specials, but I really only like the How to Train Your Dragon franchise... This actually was a sweet one to end my movie marathon on. The dragons fly away from Berk so everyone is worried where their dragons have gone; Toothless, of course, can’t fly away since he needs his driver to fly. Hiccup manages to discover that the dragons fly away not to leave their humans permanently, but to go to an island to lay their eggs.
Lesson learned from this short: do not leave dragon eggs in people’s stockings or helmets.

Christmas movie #20: Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (Seen 24 December 2020 on Disney+)
FINALLY made it to #20. Five more to go by midnight tomorrow.
This is just a short featuring my least favorite Frozen character. Sorry, not sorry, Olaf. The part of Kristoff telling the sisters about the troll Christmas tradition was just the funniest thing I’ve ever seen and I’m sure my neighbors were scared on how loud I laughed at that scene.
It is always nice to visit the Arendelle crew, and the Anna & Elsa song at the climax of this short was very nice. Kinda makes me wish that the events of Frozen 2 didn’t happen (even though I like that sequel a lot) because I really like Elsa as Queen.
