Daily reminder that Berdly from Deltarune is a sweet boy and deserves only the best.

He has extremely low self worth and put up a pretentious facade to find value, since he relies on the perception other people have of him to gain his own perception of himself,

he genuinely cares about his friends to the point of being willing to sacrifice himself for them multiple times,

he showed genuine concern for Kris after they spent a day with Susie despite supposedly being their rival,

people find him offputting and he has very few friends, Toby likely made him initially unlikeable on purpose only for him to reveal his backstory for those who understand to empathize while those who don’t remain hateful (a core theme of his games is empathy and he’s a genius so there’s no doubt people saying “i hope we can kill berdly” after chapter 1 but before chapter 2 is a coincidence)

he’s not a creep (i think most people get this now but whatever) and he thinks people like him and flirts with others because he genuinely believes people need an ulterior motive to hang around him, and nobody genuinely likes him without wanting something from him.

I’m of the belief Berdly is either a child of neglect or divorce, which is why his self image is so low and his desire to make others like him is so high. A lot of kids with divorced parents turn out like that.

His fucking world view was changed by WINNING A SPELLING BEE??? Hello?? How does such a mundane victory giving him value not emphasize how little he values himself.

He pretends to have a crush on Noelle bc he thinks she likes him, which shows that he genuinely loves her even if he is kinda just using her to get good grades

he makes mistakes but has a lot of room for growth and has a lot of heroic qualities that solidify his status as a “good guy” because he is. He might not be perfect but that’s why I love him.
