Hi! I've been desperate to ask for a while, did you draw any inspiration from Doctor Who? I've noticed some things that strongly reminded of the show and I can't unnotice these.
So, I mentally categorise inspirations for any given piece of work in three rough tiers: hard, soft and soup.
Hard inspirations are things that directly led to the creation of something in a work, riffing on it and very specifically taking cues from the source. For example, The Spiral in TMA has Uzumaki as one of its hard inspirations - it gives it the entity it's name, riffs on some of its themes of obsession and confusing geometry, and the physical descriptions of some of its avatars are very consciously drawn from Junji Itos style of drawing biological grotesquery.
Soft inspirations are things that were not explicitly front-on-mind when making something, but at some point (whether consciously or unconsciously) the creator draws on imagery or themes from them. The Spiral has House of Leaves as one of its soft inspirations - I wasn't deliberately drawing on it, but looking back I can absolutely see where my love of that book leaked into my writing and gave shape to aspects of the Distortion especially.
Then there's the soup. The soup is how I conceive of the part of your brain where all the art you've absorbed over your life sloshes together and melts down into a big pot of swirling ideas and imagery. Sometimes you might be able to pick out a specific chunk of another work in the way it influences you, but generally it's all just 'in the soup'. Keeping with The Spiral as an example, every horror movie I've ever seen that plays with perception and illusion (Oculus, Hill House, Mouth of Madness, etc...), all those are in the soup, becoming a broth that flavours whatever I write about it.
Doctor Who is very much in the soup for me. I'm British, so I've seen a lot of it over my life. Usually it's not very good, occasionally it's great. There is not a single individual thing in any piece of work I've done so far that I could point to and say "That was inspired by something from Doctor Who", but it's that shows certainly in there, sloshing around and bubbling away with the rest of the soup, influencing me in subtle ways and no doubt occasionally dropping ideas and images that I've long-since forgotten originally came from it.

i love shari's because its the type of place where a man can very loudly say "alaska is american until you get autism involved" and also the customer demographic is either tired college students here for the free coffee refills and the geriatric who are Just Here For Some Steak And Pie™️
