Eh, I have no desire to ship myself with a 14 or 16 year old kid. I just think the pairing is cute 🤷🏻‍♀️.

The Juliana/Florian Problem

In recent games, a lot of Pokemon Protags had become less like characters and more of self inserts for people to customize and such. Usually other rivals (Brendan/May, Dawn/Lucas, etc.) Would have a counterpart and have their own character to base off of.

With Juliana/Florian being blank slates, anyone can fill the void or redesign them and such, and I think that's cool!

However, the issue is when it comes to shipping, with Juliana having the most issues.

It's that their only character REVOLVES around shipping, and they have nothing else!

Like, Mochi Mayhem. Protag gets toxic chained and their desires are revealed? Oh goody, what character development or secrets will they have? Are they secretly tired of being the nice friend? Do they have their own issues they have inside?

What do they want, why do they want it, what's stopping them from getting it, and what happens if they lose?

But in the shipping circle, none of that matters! None of that potential for character development is thrown out the window, when their true desire is that Juliana wants Arven/Kieran/Whoever is being paired with them. And that's it.

That's all? Throughout the story you've set up that these two characters like each other, and then the twist reveal of their desires is what we already know?? We know they want each other, that's the point of the plot!

Second, this issues is more on the male pairings with the protags, like Arven and Kieran. They kindaaa suffer a bit from the fandom.

I don't know why this happens, but in nearly every ship art with Juliana and Kieran or Juliana with Arven has the guys being all super serious and edgy and just.... No?

Like- that is far from how they act!

They're both silly little guys- Arven starts off as blunt and unapproachable, but he's a good friend and a cinnamon roll. He's just a guy who loves his dog, and that's sweet.

Kieran starts off as timid and shy, then went into his "edgy" arc (him just being more serious about battling") and by the end of Indigo Disk, he learns his mistakes and starts to be his old self again and has fun with battling.

But some people in the fandom makes them the equivalent of those evil antihero attitude characters, when they're not really like that.

This isn't an attack on those who DO ship Arven/Juliana or Kieran/Juliana. A couple of people avoid the issues I described above, and that's really cool! They have the characters be in a relationship yet able to stand on their own, and that's good!

I'm merely addressing the people that DO make Juliana/Florian one-note or Arven and Kieran out of character.

Again, you don't have to agree with this. It's just my personal thoughts on this.
