I am just waiting for the current iteration of celebrity worship to die, I think, yeah
I just prefer it when it’s sincere and not covered in layers of “their life is so hard they can misbehave as a treat”, you know?

i think good conversationalists are genuinely impressive and a fulfill a vital role in party compositions. i tend to use a more defense oriented listener build myself in less familiar situations though it is not as helpful to the group in scenarios where high dps is needed

Sometimes I hyperfocus so hard on something, I forget I’m a person until someone interacts with me. I feel like some wild animal seeing a human being for the first time. I’m like “oh yeah I’m supposed to speak and stuff”

Watching ‘Megalopolis’ it’s clear that Francis Ford Coppola thought he was literally Shakespeare meanwhile I’m not even convinced this is as successful as ‘Cats’
Also it’s so funny having seen ‘Metropolis’ and watching this because almost every element people said made it defensible as a movie or art or whatever is directly lifted from the “fascism is our only hope” movie—starting from the first visuals
The whole thing is hilarious
It’s not a successful commentary on anything but itself… and I guess maybe ego?
Made for a pretty good ironic Halloween film—I laughed at it many times
#you can directly tell where everything is from and it’s not very cogent and it’s not very good#the acting is terrible#if you’ve seen older experimental movies the visuals are stale#the narrative is a metaphor but the metaphor is ‘fascism is good’#the soliloquies would work better in the Shakespeare adaptations he lifted them from#if you gave anyone a hundred million dollars they could more likely than not make a watchable movie#I’m not convinced this clears that bar for anyone who doesn’t assume Coppola is a genius#so probably most people who aren’t film critics#some of the shots and movements are funny but it’s impossible to tell when or if it’s on purpose#a la ‘The Room’#I’ve seen this all done better before

JK Rowling has not and has never been skilled with figurative language. There’s no way she said ‘omertà’ for any reason but she’s accusing trans people of being a literal mafia and it’s very strange her sycophants don’t notice

realizing that most of the bad steven universe discourse of the last century comes from people thinking the show is about redemption. bitch they didn't even redeem rose quartz. the point was never about how everyone can be redeemed, it's about learning to accept change!!!! just about every major and minor antagonist in the story (at least, the sentient ones) are in that position because they are resisting CHANGE
#finally#someone who understands Steven Universe#all the takes about redemption or restorative justice or whatever are annoying#that’s not what the show is#it wasn’t Steven or even Pink Diamond’s responsibility to ‘fix’ or ‘redeem’ or ‘remove’ the other diamonds#nor could they if they wanted to#they wanted to mitigate harm and force them to grow in ways that stopped them from hurting other people#and Steven succeeded where Pink Diamond failed and ran away#and it was a net good for the universe#and it was a good story#and I still love the show#and stand by it#people were so cruel to Rebecca Sugar for no reason#write your own stories

I know we all love when writers go deep down a research rabit hole on something really specific for the sake of a fic (I certainly am not immune to doing ridiculous research into minute details for no real reason lol)
but allow me, just for a moment, to sing the praises of ✨️vagueness✨️
Unfamiliar with a city's precise geography? Be real vague.
Want a character to be a doctor but don't know how surgery works? Mention it in passing.
Character plays a sport you know nothing about? Vague it up!
You don't know what specific brand of a thing would have been popular in that time and place? Go generic baby!!
You really can just hand-wave stuff that's not where you want the focus of your story to be without anything falling apart. The audience will look where you point them, like a magic trick! If the research is stopping you up and making progress hard or frustrating you can just... not do it.

I wish when they were adapting books they fixed some of the plot holes and worldbuilding errors, rather than adding more
The real problem with books-turned-movies isn’t “omg they didn’t include every single word in the book” it’s “omg they completely overlooked the main theme, threw out any significant allegories, took away all the emotional pull, an turned it into a boring action movie with a love triangle in it”
#this happens a lot#and like… sometimes where the textiles and food are made is plot critical#but the canon explanation is complete gibberish#this is about multiple things#but also specifically one#which I won’t specify because I’m not arguing with stans
