Before COVID shut the library down, I was helping a little boy and his mom find books.
“What do you like to read about?” I asked. “Dinosaurs!” This is common request, but can mean different things, “Okay. Do you want a story about dinosaurs, or facts about dinosaurs?” “Facts.” I took him to the dinosaur section (567.9) of the juvenile nonfiction. He picked out a couple books, and I asked him if there was anything else he was looking for. “Do you have anything on DNA?” I had to think about that for a second. “I think so…but I’ll have to look it up.” The boy beamed, “I want to find out how DNA works, so I can bring them back!” “We just saw Jurassic Park,” his mom explained with a smile that did not waver when she added, “We didn’t learn anything.”

Hey here's a link to a 300+ page dissertation on intersex issues and popular culture from 2016 (the author Viola Amato passed away in 2017 - don't let her work be lost!)
The author cites bell hooks, Judith Butler, and a lot of intersex names I recognize. She talks about intermisogyny and the "AIS supermodel scare" of the mid-2000s, and breaks down how every aspect of American pop culture is designed to destroy intersex people.
PDF is open access and free to all.

I loved seeing intermisogyny being discussed in 2016 when nowadays if we say intermisogyny we are somehow stealing struggles from people.... intermisogyny has been a thing forever. Watch the House ep Skin Deep or read the entire chapter this author has on four different medical dramas that set intersex women up as trickster predators btwww

I am just waiting for the current iteration of celebrity worship to die, I think, yeah
I just prefer it when it’s sincere and not covered in layers of “their life is so hard they can misbehave as a treat”, you know?

i think good conversationalists are genuinely impressive and a fulfill a vital role in party compositions. i tend to use a more defense oriented listener build myself in less familiar situations though it is not as helpful to the group in scenarios where high dps is needed

Sometimes I hyperfocus so hard on something, I forget I’m a person until someone interacts with me. I feel like some wild animal seeing a human being for the first time. I’m like “oh yeah I’m supposed to speak and stuff”

Watching ‘Megalopolis’ it’s clear that Francis Ford Coppola thought he was literally Shakespeare meanwhile I’m not even convinced this is as successful as ‘Cats’
Also it’s so funny having seen ‘Metropolis’ and watching this because almost every element people said made it defensible as a movie or art or whatever is directly lifted from the “fascism is our only hope” movie—starting from the first visuals
The whole thing is hilarious
It’s not a successful commentary on anything but itself… and I guess maybe ego?
Made for a pretty good ironic Halloween film—I laughed at it many times
#you can directly tell where everything is from and it’s not very cogent and it’s not very good#the acting is terrible#if you’ve seen older experimental movies the visuals are stale#the narrative is a metaphor but the metaphor is ‘fascism is good’#the soliloquies would work better in the Shakespeare adaptations he lifted them from#if you gave anyone a hundred million dollars they could more likely than not make a watchable movie#I’m not convinced this clears that bar for anyone who doesn’t assume Coppola is a genius#so probably most people who aren’t film critics#some of the shots and movements are funny but it’s impossible to tell when or if it’s on purpose#a la ‘The Room’#I’ve seen this all done better before

JK Rowling has not and has never been skilled with figurative language. There’s no way she said ‘omertà’ for any reason but she’s accusing trans people of being a literal mafia and it’s very strange her sycophants don’t notice
