It rained all day and got dark very quick, but with the help of Bernardo and Joost, we got the exterior up in just a few hours. Happy to see it finally stand on site.

#46 Build Day: 1
Today I had a small lie in, after all the physical work of taking the house down and transporting it to the site. But I was looking forward to getting on site again today, so after breakfast I headed down to the Y2 to start clearing up the space. The yard was a pretty big mess, with leaves, food wrappers, rotten wood, broken pallets and all sorts of rubbish scattered all over the ground. I found a whole stack of paving slabs, which were home to a big family of woodlice, and moved the lice onto the ground so that I could use the pieces to set out a base. The ground in the yard is quite uneven, but I’m not too concerned about that. The house only really needs to be level to itself. I sealed the wooden base with some opaque lacquer, and now with the paving slabs, it has a good chance of running off any undesired water and condensation. Maybe this is not the most efficient way, but once again, it is a free solution.
The total cost of the house so far is still under 100euro!

#45 We found out that the best way to transport the two longest sides (250x220) was to make a tipi on the trailer and hold it in place with a few pieces of wood, some screws and some rope! I was lucky enough to get the help of the awesome lads down at Colosseum Skateboardpark, who brought their tiny trailer to move the different sections of the house.

#40 Inside
I extended the door to fit a full lock and handle set that I found in a container in the city. I had to refit the door frame and trim down some of the exterior plywood but it was well worth it for the benefit of a free door lock/handle.
Tomorrow is the last day the house will be sitting indoors! As of Saturday, it is moving to its outside location at the Oosterhamrikkade, in the front yard of the Y2 studios and gallery.
So far my total material costs are still well under 100euro!
Time however, well that’s a whole other story.
Watch this space for tinyhostelproject’s February activities, including the booking timetable and form.

#39 Almost there but looking bare!
if anyone has any: spare kitchen things, cushions, plants, other necessities they no longer use, I would love to have them for the project, mail me at [email protected]! Also need a footpump, and some extra floorboards, on the chance anyone has anything lying around!
I am building a tiny library inside, have a few book donations already but would love some more. If anyone would like to donate a book to the project that would be awesome. February 2nd the space will be opened and active, look out for events at Y2 Oosterhamrikadde. There will be beer and soup during the month of February
