Scared To be Alone

The girl I met only five hours ago is fast asleep and breathing peacefully And I'm content with just having her weight in my bed I missed someone else's weight I listen to her inhales and her exhales counting on the rhythm her lungs make Tomorrow she'll leave and return to being a stranger I'm not looking to fall in love again I just miss having someone there when I wake up

The TV plays some DVD on repeat and I could probably quote the lines I wake her softly has I step outside for a cigarette and when I come back to my mattress on the floor crawl back into bad next to her and she wraps herself around me and even though it's not you I'll take her for what she is tonight the single thing that's keeping me from being alone I'm scared to be alone

It doesn't take long until her weight on my body becomes comfort and my eyes finally shut for the night I may be sleeping with her, I'm always dreaming of you

Reunion

Hi, she says in a voice that rings like harp strings resonating in the canals of my ears somehow drowning out everything around me It's right here I realized she was going to be the one A week had gone by since we'd seen each other and the days dragged like they did in stuffy high school classrooms

I ask her if she'd like a drink and she said we're in a bar I laughed, not from my chest of my gut, but from my heart, each Ha Ha another contraction keeping my blood flow all proper And we walk to the bar hand in hand

The place is full but my attention is strictly on her taking in the things I missed all week the way her hair bounces the way she walks the way she moves I could stare all day and never be bored there's no masterpiece out there better than her Follow her brush strokes from her head to her toes

We catch up on the things that we didn't talk about over the phone somethings are just better in person and she tells me about her job and I tell her about my band back in forth in conversational tennis only neither one of us is keeping score

In what feels like minutes is last call And we both have had enough so we step into the warmth of summer night air cool winds blowing across the lake I'm not sure I let go of your hand all night drunkenly strolling down the sidewalk Stopping so I can put a stolen flower in her hair A little anarchy in our romance
