"Leftist" is only as popular of a label as it is because many people who purpose to be politically left outright refuse to create any sort of property articulate ideology or sense of power analysis, and thus the only thing remaining is a vague idea of "left" that tends to be defined less by actual ambition and goals and more by "Well, I'm not a right-winger so I must be left!"
