CH.5: Whatever You'll Give Me

Chapter Preview:

Dev let out an impatient groan. “Well?”

Peri arched an eyebrow. “‘Well,’ what?”

“Aren't you going to poof me clean?” Dev gestured at himself, flinging glitter through the air as he did so. “Or do I have to do everything myself?”

“You mean like the project that Hazel was helping you with?”

“Help?” Dev scoffed. “She was ruining the whole thing!”

Peri was quiet for a moment. Normally, Dev was a surprisingly good friend. He really liked Hazel, and treated her with far more respect than he provided to Peri. But he did have his moments like this where he would lash out for no real reason. Peri just didn't always understand why.

He tried to think of what Timmy would do in this situation. When Peri had been five or six, he'd reached a phase where he started to lash out a lot: at his parents, his friends, even Timmy sometimes. But his older brother had never raised his voice or scolded Peri for it. Instead, Timmy had always looked at him at eye-level and patiently asked… 

“What's wrong, Poof?”

“Mama is wrong! She's treating me like an idiot!”

“Wanda didn't do anything wrong.”

“Yes, she did! She—!”

“Poof, c'mon. Talk to me. What's really bothering you?”

“What's really bothering you, Dev?” Peri questioned in a soft voice as he floated down lower to the ground, closer to Dev's height. “You're not mad at Hazel, she hasn't done anything wrong, but you are mad. What's up?”

His uncharacteristic approach seemed to throw Dev for a loop. Despite his shades fixed firmly in place, it was clear that Dev was surprised.

Preview for ch.5 of "If Love Is The Answer You're Home"

Timmy took a deep breath and asked, “Hey, um, Peri… I've been wondering, ah…” Timmy trailed off, his confidence failing. But Peri just looked at him patiently, like he could stand there for hours and hours if that was what Timmy needed to get the words out. Plucking up his courage once more, Timmy forced himself to spit it out. “What exactly are we?”

Peri's brow furrowed in confusion. “We're humans?” He asked, like it was a trick question. 

Despite his nerves, Timmy found himself cracking a smile. “No, I mean, like— How would you define our relationship?”

Peri blushed, surprised by the question. He looked away, taking a moment to think. Finally, he smiled shyly, casting a fond look at Timmy. “I guess I see us as… friends.”

Timmy blanched. Friends? Wasn’t this a date? He wracked his mind for signs that Peri’s intentions had been platonic, any scrap of evidence that he was a big idiot who was too eager for a pretty guy to like him back. 

He came up with nothing. All he could remember was Peri flirting with him. 

Timmy bit the inside of his cheek and tried to keep his expression neutral even as disappointment sank in his stomach like a stone. “What, uh, what kind of friends, exactly?”

Peri blinked and just stared up at Timmy for a moment. Like the question was taking a while to load into Peri’s mind and be processed.

Timmy’s heart rate started to pick up as he gazed into Peri’s eyes. His date seemed to be searching Timmy’s face for signs of… something. Timmy wasn’t sure of what, but he’d give anything to find out.

Headcanon that incest isn't a taboo in fairy society. They're made of magic, not DNA, so it's not really?? A thing that anyone cares about.

Plus, when you live for that long and there's no new fairies being born, the dating pool gets kind of limited. Most fairies have dated around quite a bit.

Since Peri's in his early twenties and Timmy's in like his mid-30s do the two go out and get a drink together sometimes a fairy world and just vent about work to each other

Whenever Peri gets too stressed or caught up in his own head, Timmy would take him to the dive bars in Anti-Fairy World to help unwind and loosen up. Being surrounded by messy and loud fairies helps remind Peri that not everything needs to be perfect.

Likewise, whenever Peri notices that Timmy's losing sleep or working too much, Peri takes Timmy out to quieter restaurants to ground him back to reality. The slow pace and even slower service helps force Timmy back to the present and take a breather.

Even though they haven't lived in the same roof for several years, they still do their best to look out for each other.

What does Timmy think of his little brother Peri growing up to have a neurotic personality?

Peri's always had severe anxiety. It sorta comes with being the first baby born in a 1000 years and constantly being kidnapped by everyone around you.

Timmy's just glad Peri grew up to be more confident in himself, and more assertive.
