I’ve had my eyes on The Obituary of Tunde Johnson for a minute now. On election night I was looking at the Wikipedia entry for Chris Rock’s Head of State, which lead to me looking at his longtime collaborator Ali LeRoi’s entry, and I saw this film, which had screened at festivals in 2019 but seemed to be unavailable. It got picked up at the beginning of the year. Honestly I feel like it may be too painful -- I remember struggling with See You Yesterday (which I like to call “Black to the Future”) and that movie seems softer -- but putting it here just in case.

It’s truly confusing to me to see a show just not have a Wikipedia entry. Yet that is the case with Timewasters. And I haven’t even been able to find video of it accessible here except the Season 2 trailer. Well, accessible legally.

For reasons I can explain, I have a license to this movie but not first one and have seen the first one but not this one. On Movies Anywhere you can share a license for the first one but not this one. I feel like there is no way you would need to have seen the first one to get this. Great pitch, right?

While Lazzaro felice (Happy Lazzaro) doesn’t promote itself as a time travel movie, from what I’ve read the travel occurs early enough I’m not spoiling anything by listing this.

I have a sneaking suspicion it is a spoiler to say Your Name is a time travel movie, but I haven’t seen it so don’t know for sure. First heard about it for the press it got around being the highest grossing Japanese movie (since surpassed).

Poor Karan Soni -- his picture is on the poster for Safety Not Guaranteed but that was no ::ahem:: guarantee his name would be.

If you haven’t watched Sound of My Voice I would still be up for that.

I believe I mentioned this series to you back when HBO Max launched so maybe you’ve already tried it, but I’d like to point out that in searching for an image I came across an article suggesting the Bollywood movie Dear Zindagi had stolen its concept. Except I looked into Dear Zindagi and it doesn’t seem to be about time travel. Which then made me wonder...are there any [good] Bollywood movies about time travel? Chinese movies? That one time I was in Japan I saw posters for a movie called Thermæ Romæ II where someone from ancient rome ends up in Japan and it looked funny but I don't know how to access it [legally]! Also, apparently Allison Williams is remaking this for America. Anyway, weird this would be the thing for which I wrote the most copy!

I had thought 2010′s [Time Traveller] The Girl Who Leapt Through Time was an adaptation of the 2006 cartoon (and, indeed, they star the same actress), but actually it is a sequel to the 1983 live action movie which was based on a 1965 novel. I haven’t figured out how to stream the 1983 version yet, but when I do...

Also known as Los Cronocrímenes, might be an excuse to practice some Spanish.

I swore Déjà Vu was on HBO Max but I didn’t see it mentioned in any WarnerMedia press releases. Jamais vu.

2006′s The Girl Who Leapt Through Time is the cartoon, directed by HOSODA Mamoru, who would later get an Oscar nomination for the film Mirai, which is Japanese for “future” but is not about time travel.
