What left wing criticisms of “New Atheism” should be:
*Thinking of religion purely in intellectual terms and viewing the matter of class as a product of that rather than the other way around.
*Not talking enough about the role of religion in imperialism and colonialism not simply as justification but in terms of how organized religion was an inherent part of colonial states both in theocratic hegemonic forms (Iberian colonialism) as well as recruiting native religious elites to serve as agents of the colonial state (Dutch East Indies)
*Eurocentric understanding of the history of atheism and criticism of religion that views opposition to (organized) religion as a modern product of the European Enlightenment and not something with an intellectual history going back far deeper and longer in places such as India and the Near East
*etc
What is not a left wing critique New Atheism:
*Getting upset people are criticizing religion at all
*Getting upset atheists articulate their reasons for being atheists in any form other than “It’s for purely personal reasons”
*Doubling down on Eurocentrism by aggressively asserting that criticism of religion is only done by white people and non-whites are all super religious fae creatures or whatever

More people should abandon Internet discourse and get into observing/engaging with local politics. I say this not because local politics often offers more meaningful opportunities for effective praxis (although it does), but because local politics often offers just as much highly toxic and entertaining petty drama.
I highly recommend city council meetings. You might make yourself an informed voter and active community member or something. You also might get to watch an ongoing soap opera of old men ready to murder one another over trash collection ordinances, and unlike the Internet, none of them can effectually tell one another to kill themselves no matter how hard and how clearly they are thinking it.

It’s beyond ridiculous that The Guardian won’t do any kind of moderation before letting twitter writers publish fucking borderline holocaust denialist “Stalin was worse than Hitler because Hitler was at least racist”
#polblr#this is why i hate russiagaters#they always bring up nazi germany and the soviet union but completely ignore how fascism was born in America

😂 I knew the reblogs would be trash but some of you guys are hilarious.
Dude, no one cares about the fact you're making miguel x reader fanfiction. It is telling, however, that I have heard little to nothing about the story itself and it's just people painting Miguel in a fetishistic manner as a spicy latino man based on that simple characterization. Again, this is just me trying to avoid all this stuff because of the amount of spoilers and spam I've received, I am not actively looking for this stuff.
(Really heavy on the fetishization. Some of you don't care about the story and are only looking for characters to expliot your tropes on and it shows. That is mainly why seeing fanfics spammed like this leave a bad taste in my mouth because it reminds me people like that exists.)
We are allowed to approach fandom however we wish, there are no cops as some person wrote, but, ironically, Miguel fought tooth and nail to get this point across: if you reject the premise of spiderman then you can't have a spiderman story. Just having spiderman isn't enough. Miguel was a spiderman in that parallel universe but since there was no premise to sustain his existence, the trauma and loss that most spiderman stories have, that led to the destruction of his entire universe.
Miles represents the threat that a lot of old time spiderman fans have, that canon will be rejected for fanon and all the things that made spiderman great would be lost to flanderization and stories with no real stakes. I'm not saying that tumblr having a surplus of fanfiction will lead to the end of everything but having a space to talk about the story as it was intended and talking about the character as it was intended is important.
I can definitely fuck off to reddit in the meantime until that time comes but this a cross-platform issue and I don't OP was wrong to address it.
me: i would like to discuss the fact miguel o’hara went in search of other spiders at the end of into the spider-verse. he started at the beginning he wasn’t antagonistic or as distrustful or tired as he clearly is in across the spider-verse. he most likely found out about multiple peter parkers and wondered if there were different versions of him, and his curious nature won out and he looked and he saw and discovered that a version of him was happy, even for a little time, even for a moment. and then even that was taken from him! in a sense, he became the first anomaly by trying to fill the space left by a different miguel. he may be projecting, he may be trying to retroactively right his own wrongs by ensuring that a full universe collapse never happens again he–
tumblr: what if he was in love with me
me: what
#astv#but isn't reddit protesting the new changes and so you can't post there#i know i know my point still stands

"Become the man of your misfortunes, learn to embody their perfection and brilliance". Nothing more can be said, and no more has ever been said: to become worthy of what happens to us, and thus to will and release the event, to become the offspring of one's own events and thereby to be reborn, to have one more birth and to break with one's carnal birth-to become the offspring of one's events and not of one's actions, for action is itself produced by the offspring of the event.
Gilles Deleuze, Logic of Senses.
