This is really well put!! Nighthearts arc was not in any way perfect (what were y’all expecting) but it was resolved in a satisfying way and that’s so much better than some other arcs we’ve gotten (*cough twigbranch lionblaze alderheart cough*)!

Also I’m a nightheart defender. He went from being a temperamental ball of misplaced angst to being an incredibly loyal friend and having an actively good relationship with his kin and his lineage!!

why are we pretending that the final chapter of star was just ‘and nightheart isn’t orange’ like are you guys exaggerating to be funny or do you legitimately hate nightheart that much it’s affected your ability to read the book lmao

it’s such a short chapter too, the message isn’t that hard to understand. legacy naming in warrior cats has always been a huge thing, especially for thunderclan cats. both litters of kits currently in the nursery right now are all legacy named after other cats. an entire generation of cats have been named after dead clan mates, and they’re not even the first!!

finchlight is teasing nightheart about whether or not he should also participate in legacy naming with his and sunbeam’s litter. instead of thinking too hard about the teasing, he dismisses it quite casually, no longer upset by comparisons and being named after ancestors but amused by the situation. a clear sign of how much he’s grown.

what he’s really focused on in that moment, is what sunbeam wants. he’s worried when sparkpelt brings up the idea of naming one of their kits after berryheart. he doesn’t push her, doesn’t give his opinion on the subject, just supports her when she decides she doesn’t want to name her kits before they’re born. they’ve both decided to name their kits as a reflection of who they are, not for the sake of remembering other cats.

nightheart has grown into a selfless, mature cat capable of looking back on his past actions and beliefs with amusement and bewilderment that he ever acted that way or believed those things. he loves his wife, he loves his family, he’s proud of his heritage, and he finally feels confident in himself and his own abilities, no longer feeling like he has to live up to any expectations.

…….what part of that is just ‘nightheart isn’t orange’ to you????????

So I made some predictions for ASC Star here

And I was pleasantly surprised by how things were handled!!!! The last few chapters were really sweet and satisfying despite it not really lining up with what I wanted. More to come

actually i want angsty MothPool and not in a one-sided/unrequited love way but in a this relationship is fundamentally doomed if we consider the canon motivations of both characters.

like I want mothwing who can’t trust starclan after all that’s been taken from her and after all the guilt she felt for years about hawkfrost faking the sign but she loves Leafpool for her kindness and compassion and she doesn’t care what starclan thinks anyway so why should she follow the medicine cat code that caused her friend so much harm ??

and then Leafpool. Leafpool who completely shuts down the implication that she ever deserved anything more than what starclan allowed her when squirrelflight so much as mentions the morals of other cats (the sisters). Leafpool who is 100% ready to just go to cat hell if her ancestors declare it because she has so much faith in their inherent goodness and righteousness that she’s completely blind to how they used and abused her and her sister.

And maybe once or twice mothpool run into each other gathering herbs or carrying messages or something and mothwing decides she hasn’t got anything else to lose because her apprentice is doing fine handling the whole starclan thing anyway now and leafpool’s got two other fully trained cats taking care of thunderclan now so maybe they can afford to act on their feelings now? when the clans have seen so much peace in recent moons?

And Leafpool who is grappling with the fact that mothwing is suddenly a more consistent and supportive force in her life than her own gods who she lied to the entire forest for but they said cross-clan love was bad and she already made that mistake once and what would it say about her that she disregarded the rules not once but twice? And mothwing is trying to reason with her and it’s not like they could bear kits anyway so what would a few extra trips out of camp every moon really be? It wouldn’t be so different than their rendezvous now would it? And Leafpool lashes out and mothwing wouldn’t understand such devotion to something higher than herself and mothwing feels like she’s been stung by a thousand hornets because leafpool don’t you realize I’m devoted to you? Don’t you realize I have trust in your goodness and righteousness? That you’re the moon and stars to me Leafpool?

I’m gonna make some predictions for ASC Star bc I have lot of thoughts

First up

Things I Think Will Happen (bc I know how the Erins write)

•Sunbeam and Berrynose will make up and all of Berrynose’s xenophobia will be forgiven in a lame scene ab being protective or something

•Frostpaw will become leader

•Nightheart’s chapters will be largely camera chapters with little interaction between himself and Sunbeam or her family

•Splashtail’s supporters will be completely forgiven and their complicity excused bc they were good deep down

Ok now

Things I Have a Forboding Feeling will Happen

•Squilf dies. like she never got her nine lives, and instead Bramble was stripped of his and starclan revealed they will die together bc of fate or something or they lied to the clans ab her getting accepted by starclan. My reasoning is 1. Nightheart left them at the Moonpool so we didn’t see the direct aftermath, the authors beat up squilf every chance they get, and squilf has been uncharacteristically avoidant of conflict, possibly to protect the secret if she is hurt or killed.

•Leafstar continues to act completely unreasonably/ in an out-of-character fashion, OR she has a sudden change of personality bc we need the readers to like her before next arc.

•Mothwing dies. Somehow it won’t matter that Frostpaw is leader and there’s no medic bc frop just Does Both lol

•Fernstripe still gets no focus despite the theme of this arc

•StarClan continues to be completely neutral evil in everything they do

And finally

Things I Really Want to Happen

•Riverclan is led by Mothwing, Icewing, and Duskfur as a committee and they each get 3 lives. It would fit the whole “making riverclan different and better” idea lol

•Nightheart talks to Rootspring and it’s cute (yes ik Ivypool’s Heart is happening but it could be an epilogue come on)

•Curlfeather murders Splashtail as a ghost to protect Frostpaw in a scene with really fun parallels to Splash killing Reedwhisker and trying to kill Frop earlier. We know from OOTS that dark forest cats can interact with the real world so why not man

•Curlfeather is redeemed and allowed into StarClan, beginning a trend of StarClan being REASONABLE FOR ONCE PLEASE ERINS PLEASE

•Whistlepaw gets her full name (maybe in an epilogue) and it’s Whistlefrost

•Frostpaw is named Frostriver or Frostripple bc duh

•RiverClan Actually Changes

•Fernstripe interacts with Sunbeam

•A tom moves to a clan instead of a she-cat

•Brambleclaw dies somehow

anyway did anyone else notice that Oatclaw and Featherpelt had themed names for their litters

The bird litter and the plant litter

And also the themes follow their prefixes (Feather=birds, Oat=plants)

Flutterfoot, Songleap, Whistlepaw

Grasskit, Leafkit, Branchkit

Anyway this is very cute and 100% unintentional but in my mind Oat wanted to honor his wife with the bird themed names for the first litter and then Feather turned around and did the same thing to him the next go round.
