Packed up. Goodbyes said and w’re on our way south to Des Moines, IA. Plenty of rainfall on the drive as Marc rested his body. Arrived at Janell & Jerry’s in the late afternoon. Iowa is very picturesque. Great evening catching up and watching the Iowa & Iowa State football game.

Left Austin, TX and headed for Carlsbad NM. Popped in and out of these two states while visiting the caverns of Carlsbad then onto Las Cruces NM via El Paso so Marc could see the “wall”! Had a quiet Independence Day celebration. Sat in the parking lot of our hotel watching the fireworks around town while sipping wine!

We enjoyed a 60 mile ride through the Razorback Greenway from Bella Vista to Lake Fayettville, Arkansas. Beautiful scenery along the way was not disappointing as we drove 2 hours to the start! Locals say its the best ride for 120 miles :) Stopped at mile 53 to enjoy a beer and another at the end in the shade of an old oak tree while viewing the Veterans Memorial of Honor. A local monument honoring the wars from the Revolutionary war to present day and the soldiers that gave their lives for our freedom.

After our challenge ride yesterday we decided to do a low key 24 mile ride from Millwood to Rogersville through more beautiful countryside. I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves. Enjoy!

Marc found several friends to save along the route that were in the middle of the road. My own “turtle whisperer” who helped them across the road!

June 22 Challenge Ride
Woke up Monday morning to cloudy skies and intentions to ride something low key. Mother nature had other plans for us as we got to our destination to start and the rain started to come down. Well, what to do? Let’s take a scenic drive and see what the terrain looks like for the 40 mile route! Back to our original starting point, skies clear and well, why not jump on the bikes and now cycle the 40 mile route?! That is what any obsessed cyclist would do after all.
The photo of the route tells the story, however, we rode up, down, twists and turns of hills with grades up to 7.8% not once but several times. Retraced some of our previous ride through Hollister and into Arkansas; back into Missouri on Highway 65 which was a first for Kelly cycling on the freeway for 2 miles. The final challenge came at 38 miles with a 10.6% grade! Final stats are 3 hours and 3 minutes with a 13.2 average!
