it's not the worst idea! quite the opposite, you're suggesting something with actual precedent in literary history. if i'm not mistaken, the technique is called exquisite corpse and was first (?) introduced by french surrealists (breton etc). the only difference here is that cadavre exquis was played without seeing the previous part of the story/word (the morbid name comes from their first accidental phrase they ended up with: “the exquisite corpse shall drink the new wine”; had to look it up, couldn't remember the exact wording). they tried similar experiments with visual art too
i just had the worst idea. let me cook.
have you ever heard of one word stories? essentially everyone gathers in a circle and can only say one word, with the goal being to make a coherent story.
now walk with me here: in a tumblr community someone writes the first chapter/paragraph of a story. then a person reblogs it with the next chapter that they write, so on and so forth until the story reaches a satisfying conclusion.
oh god this is a terrible idea.
#nobody asked me apologies 😑 but i tried hard to remember what this reminds me of#and here we are#literature#literary history

Quest: answer this with one thing that you saw or experienced today that was beautiful. Then for a week, reblog it each day with one thing that you find beautiful in the world. Anything from sunsets to characters to small acts of kindness. Anyone who sees this post can reblog with something they think is beautiful.
dear anon, i think i'm too much of a pessimist to keep that up for a whole week 😔✌
as for today... mhm. it was uneventful to say the least, but i bought a locally-made face moisturizer that smells heavenly. does that count? saw some pretty buildings too
#buying things is not beautiful but that's all i can offer atm#you're like a week late haha#i had a mountain hike and then guided tour and etc#and that my friend#was insanely beautiful#asks

and while we were going down i had an idea for hike au; no logic, no anything, just a desire to put characters in situations
we will find a mountain for them to hike (where? probably not even in uberwald, but they're doing it because I Said So as the narrator)
carrot is our guide, but for funsies he has spotty knowledge of the mountain. true to hiking traditions, he’ll never specify break times, just chirp after each brutal stretch: “oh! looks like there’s just one more tiny ascent! you’re all crushing it!”. the squad seethes silently, but acknowledges he’s the sole reason they’re still breathing. he stubbornly keeps his shirt on until angua literally tears it off him
vimes is a wheezing, sweat-drenched ball of rage (when he has breath left to be angry, that is). commander vimes, sir, maybe don’t– carrot. he loathes every molecule of this experience, yet refuses to quit
angua is doing great, actually. born in uberwald, how many times has she run across the mountains? but i don’t think she’s a fan of the heat (at least until they get higher)
i feel like colon and nobby would fail terribly at setting up a tent even with actual knowledge and experience. you’d have to excavate them out of it like on an archeological mission
visit’s body is in agony, but his soul? transcendent. afterwards everyone gets a brochure about the benefits of mountain hiking for spiritual enlightenment
detritus is doing GREAT (no need for explanation) and! as they go higher, the temperature will drop! so by the end, i think he will be literally the last brain cell of the group
cheery’s holding her own, and that’s all i need to justify including her
i also want moist and adora there even though it makes no sense; moist will plaster on his biggest smile while dying inside (i don’t see him as a great climber). he’ll hype up his wife, who we’ll give hiking poles so she has something to stab people with in place of her heels. at some point she's saying that if he doesn’t shut up, she WILL kill him
having vetinari in this improvised squad would be FUN, but not with his leg, nope. instead! he sends pigeon (?) dispatches with weirdly in-depth notes on the group's progress, and they’re always waiting at the campsite before the group arrives. no one knows how he does it, and vimes is developing an eye twitch
additional note:
weather changes fast in mountains, and of course it sucks HORRIBLY on this hike. everyone goes from being drenched (in all possible forms and creatures, lol) and sitting through snowstorm to getting toasted by sun. vimes groans miserably that he wants to go home... and then another pigeon arrives... his swearing echoes so long it reaches ankh-morpork 🥀
barely survived a hike

we can't have you dead ☝ that's not an option
don't overexert yourself, i'll be excited over whatever you have desire or time to draw
Discworld headcanon time! What horses would the characters ride:
For Vetinari, I would pick a black warmblood (Dutch or German), since they are very fast and agile, and work great for both running long distances on rough terrain but also jumping high. I imagine he’d appreciate that.
I would only add that his horse would have blue eyes since blue-eyed horses look extremely eerie/ scary and I know he’d love to terrorise his people more (I mean, look at these mfs)

For Vimes, I chose an American Quarter horse because they are very quick on short distances (the chase he loves so much), but they are also horses that work on ranches, trained to listen to their riders and do all sorts of stuff (so a good horse for everyday watch business)
Also they are good on rough terrain too, and can be taught to be ridden rein-free (so you can do something else with your hands)

For Lady Sybil, I chose a Gypsy Cob (Vanner) horse. They are cold-blooded so they’re very calm and kind, can be trusted with kids easily and are also strong horses (she could carry dragons with them and stuff). They’re also very loyal and trustworthy
And they look absolutely stunning with their long mane and leg feather (look at them)

I’d give Carrot an Andalusian horse because they are considered a royal breed (used historically by kings) and that’s a nice nod to his heritage.
Also, good endurance, strong horses (he is very tall and he wears armor) and could even be ridden in battle. They’re still energetic enough for sprints but not as crazy as German warmbloods

Now some minor characters that I have some neat ideas for:
I’d give Lord Downey a Dutch/ German warmblood too, because they can be ridden in all English sports (dressage, show jumping, eventing) and since he enjoys fitting in with the aristocracy he’d probably want a horse on which he could compete or at least look cool on
Also, warmbloods are a bit crazier than colder breeds and I think that fits both him and Vetinari (just his horse will have normal eyes because he has no need to scare people)

And finally for 71-hour Ahmed, the infamous Arabian horse. This goes without much explaining, Klatch is inspired from the Arabic countries and they are known for their beautiful Arabian breeds.
Very fast, very good for endurance riding, have been ridden into war for centuries and are great in deserts.

Enjoy :))

i LOVE it; tbh i know next to nothing about horses, but everything you say here makes total sense and WHO do i need to pay money to draw all of them riding a horse!!!! imagine vetinari (dreamy sigh), with his height and posture
and imagine sybil! gypsy vanner oooh she'd look majestic!
