âHaving made clear that the continuing links between the foundational crimes of colonialism and our present experiences of racism are not, in fact, up for debate, the liberal regime demands that we engage in the performative spectacle of discussion; that we come together as âequalsâ to âreasonably,â ârationally engage with the white establishment about the legitimacy of our concerns⌠[T]he conversation, it seems, must always take place on their terms. This is a perfect illustration of the refusal to engage with the source of our grievances: the demand for people of colour to continually seek the approval of the white establishment, without which we cannot be discursively legible, where the experiences of the coloniser are equitable with the experiences of the disenfranchised. It is a continuance of the violent necessity for people of colour to continually justify ourselves against a white norm.â

âSometimes you think of bravery in the stereotypical way, maybe in the superhero way of fighting bad guys or jumping from buildings, and I think some of the bravest things to do are the simplest, like honesty. You know? Like for me, Valkyrie, in the movie for example, is not brave because she can fight people bigger than herself. I think sheâs brave when she decides to acknowledge the things in her past that really hurt her. When she decides to confront them, you know? That, to me, those are the bravest moments of hers.â - Tessa Thompson (x)

Unpopular opinion that shouldnât be unpopular: anti-bullying programs in school that donât address the root causes of bullying - which are almost invariably larger forms of bigotry and oppression like racism, ableism and homophobia - are completely useless and ultimately futile.

Excellent history fact to remember;
Niccolo Machiavelli and Leonardo Da Vinci, most likely at the behest of the Borgias, once conspired to steal a river.
Thatâs right folks. They planned to change the course of the Arno River so that they could steal it from Pisa and make Florence accessible by sea.Â
Please take a moment to imagine that.
Please.Â

Asia Argento takes the stage at #Cannes2018 closing ceremony
âIn 1997, I was raped by Harvey Weinstein here at Cannes. I was 21 years old. This festival was his hunting ground.
I want to make a prediction: Harvey Weinstein will never be welcomed here ever again. He will live in disgrace, shunned by a film community that once embraced him and covered up for his crimes.
And even tonight, sitting among you, there are those who still have to be held accountable for their conduct against women for behavior that does not belong in this industry â does not belong in any industry or workplace.
You know who you are. But most importantly, we know who you are. And weâre not going to allow you to get away with it any longer.â (transcript by Justin Chang)
